-Personality Stuff-
Likes: Sweets. Sapphire has had a sweet tooth ever since she was little. Her family lived near a bakery, and after becoming friends with the lead baker, she would be given two fresh hot cookies every morning. Practicing magic. Sapph has always liked being a Unicorn. Her sisters used their magic to cater to themselves like the rich fillies they were, while Sapph liked to use her magic to create designs. She still uses her magic, although she never got the chance to truly use her talent because of her daughter's birth. Her daughter. Obsidian Diamond is Sapphire's pride and joy. She loves her daughter more than anything in the world and she never lets anything get in the way of that. She is a confident and happy mother. Reading. To take the heat off of work and stress, Sapphire enjoys curling up with her daughter and reading books together. Although when reading with Obsidian, the books are always children's books, when she is alone at night, she enjoys reading a good mystery or a thriller. Winter season. Snow is one of Sapphire's favorite things, including cold weather. She loves the feeling of fresh snow on her flank, and even more to play in it with her daughter.
Dislikes: Excessive heat. Sapph hates the summertime. It's unbearably hot and she can't stand the feeling of a sunburn. When it gets really really hot she uses her magic to insulate her home, against her daughter's wishes. Being bullied. Because of her reputation as a teen mom, the neighborhood ponies love to pick on her, telling her she's not fit to raise her baby when she is only a baby herself. She usually responds to this by turning their mane an ugly color. Organic food. Sapph is a junkie. She hates to admit it, but healthy food is a disgusting horrible thing that should never be eaten. She won't even feed carrots and beans to her daughter, as she can't stomach to even cook them. Working overtime. Although Sapph would do anything for her daughter, working overtime is the worst thing in the world to her. She hates it. It means two very horrible things. One is that she'll be bone tired and unable to get enough rest. Two is that she won't even see her daughter until morning because the foalsitter will have already put her to bed.She tries not to work overtime, only once a week. But if things get tight it can be almost three days a week.
Motivation: Her daughter's happiness means the world to Sapphire. Every day when Sapph comes home from work, bone tired and ready to throw in the towel, her daughter's smiles and excitement always give her the energy needed to entertain and feed her. Obsidian means everything to her. Her excited, happy filly is what gets her up in the morning. She only hopes she can be the mom she needs to be. But with Obsidian's pure joy and laughter, it's not difficult for her to be the best she can be. All Sapphire wants is to see her daughter succeed and follow her dreams, something Sapphire herself never got the chance to do because of Obsidian's birth. But she wouldn't trade anything for her filly. Not even a dream spot on the corner making gem designs.
Strengths: Intelligence. As a filly, Sapphire was very smart, acing every test she was given in school, and choosing to put forth the effort in hopes of snatching a spot as a gem designer. Even today she's still incredibly smart and uses her intelligence to work her way up the roster of gem inspectors. Magic. Sapph has always loved magic, and in turn, studied it for a very very long time. Although she dreamed of attending Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns, her mother and father refused because they believed Sapphire was not worth it. Despite not having formal training, Sapphire can use her magic diligently and correctly. Kindness. Unlike her older sisters, Sapphire has always tried to be a polite pony, respecting others and using manners. Because of this, she acquired her job, and is slowly making her way up the ladder. She also hopes to teach Obsidian the ways of kindness so she too can succeed.
Weaknesses/Flaws: Longing to be a party animal like she wanted to be in her youth. Because of her dedication to be Obsidian's mother, Sapph never got to enjoy her freedom as young adult. What she describes as being a "guilty pleasure" Sapp feels bad that she feels his way, wishing she could shake off that desire, knowing it's not right, especially since she's a mother. Cooking. One of the biggest problems Sapphire has is cooking. She never learned how to cook in Canterlot because of her roots, and as a result, ends up going to restaurants a lot. But because she can't afford that all the time for both her and her daughter, she does her best to use cookbooks, which sometimes do and sometimes don't work. Workaholic. Sapphire never stops working. She's determined to make her daughter's life great, and wants to make sure she's giving her all. Even if that means she's bone tired and sleep deprived.
Fears: Failing as a mom. Sapphire's biggest fear is failing as a mom. Her own mother was not a nice pony, and her own life has been a mess because of the teenage romance she was is. She wants Obsidian to grow up successful and happy, and follow her dreams. Something Sapphire herself never could. Spiders. Sapph doesn't like spiders. Period. Big or small they all must die in her book. Sugar-free snacks. Or what Sapphire calls them, "pink frosted lies" there is nothing she hates more than to start eating something delicious and then looking at the label where it says "sugar free" she feels it's all nothing but a big waste of taste and a lie. It makes her shudder to think of what kind of monstrosity is in her stomach.
Overall Persona: Sapphire Snowflake is a 21 year old unicorn with a lot of grace and style, but also the ethic to work hard. On the outside. On the inside she's struggling with herself. When she was 16, her coltfriend left her with a newborn filly with little to no bits. But not to worry She loves her life. She has a five year old daughter who she loves with all her heart, but raising her alone AND keeping her job as a gem inspector can be difficult, considering her real talent is etching beautiful designs in gems. But in the end her daughter always comes first. Sapph may miss being a teenager, as most of those years were taken from her so she could raise Obsidian, and sometimes can't help but release her inner party animal. So in the morning, she's a go get it mom, hurrying to work while also providing breakfast. In the afternoon, she's working as hard as she can, making bits to put bread on the table. In the evening, she's relaxing inside with her daughter, or out on the town, shopping and putting some thrill back into her life before dinnertime with her filly. In the night, she's partying. She may be a bit out of control, but she tries to maintain the "responsible, graceful, hardworking mom" look on the outside. While on the inside she's "cool, chill, fun-loving mom" But one of her favorite things to do to relax is use the books and practice her magic. She enjoys knowing she has magic, and uses it frequently in her home and town, despite never being able to use her real talent. But at the end of the day, Sapph is a pony who can smile on her life and be thankful for what she's got.
History/Background: Sapphire was born in Canterlot along with her three older sisters who were mean and snotty. Sapph grew up shy and lonely, and never made many friends because she was so insecure with herself. When she got out of school she finally made some friends at her first job as a cashier for a fast food joint. After becoming an apprentice to a gem crafter, she wanted to try and pursue her dream of opening a gem shop, as her special talent was making beautiful designs in gems. But as she turned 15, she fell in love with a stallion at her work. The two maintained a long relationship until Sapph's 16th birthday when she discovered she was pregnant. After telling her coltfriend, he quickly broke up with her and refused to help father the foal. Feeling heartbroken, Sapph quit her job, moved to more affordable Ponyville, got a job as a gem inspector, and began preparing for her foal's arrival, giving birth to a healthy filly in the wintertime on a snowy morning. Because of the black color of her mane and the small white diamond shape in the middle of her head, she named her daughter Obsidian Diamond, and began going back to work, hiring foal sitters most of the time, but always making sure her daughter knew her mother loved her. Although her sisters teased her for being a young mom, she takes the fact she's a mom in pride, not sorrow. She continues to work as a gem inspection pony, and lives in Ponyville as a happy single mother to her foal.
