Finally, after a long stressful day Knotty reaches the edge of the white tail woods. Another ten minutes and he will be in the quaint little clearing he currently calls home. he spent the day in Ponyville, conquering anxiety and meeting new friends. He managed to sell a few of his rare flowers to a florist in the market, earning him enough bits to buy a few apples and add some clink to his aging saddle bags. he takes the last bite of the apple floating infront of him and magically tosses the core into a bush as he passes. That had to have been the juiciest apple he has ever eaten, and he has three more! The ragged flap of his right saddle bag flips open and a simple daisy floats out and into his mouth. He holds the stem in his teeth as he slowly chews his way to the pedals.
Afraid Knot's happy mood is soured when he discovers somepony lurking around his camp. He dives into a thick bush and hunkers down, his legs wide as if he were ready to pounce, the truth is, he just wanted to run, but something about this pony captured his full attention. The extreemly dark cloak hides the pony rather effectively, however knotty can make out the faint lines of Pegasus wings. The unknown pegasus pokes at the bed roll that sits under a canopy of woven vines, and pokes a long coiled up rope that hangs beside the beaten up bed. suddenly the pegasus perks up, spinning with a powerful clop. Knotty cant quite tell what's happening, but his heart races, and his hooves shake. As he thinks about heading back to Ponyville, the hooded figure speaks out in a loud, but beautiful voice.
"come out, come out, wherever you are..."
Her voice is like a song, floating on the breeze. With shaky steps, knotty walks into the clearing. he opens his mouth to speak but nothing but a tiny squeak comes out.
"no no no, you needn't speak. Just listen. Curious that you should choose this spot to camp, so close to... never mind dear. I have a favour to ask of you."
She drops the hood from her head revealing a purple face, with a vibrant red mane cascading over one eye and spilling out of the cloak. Knotty looks her in the eyes in amazement, so captivating, one blue, one green eye. She strides in front of knotty, flicking a wing from under her cloak and pushing his jaw gently closed with a giggle.
"anyways, my employer wishes for you to retrieve a trinket for him. Head along the river from here towards the Everfree forest. Find a tree that arches over the water. find your namesake there. "
Knotty does his best to take all of this in.
"why me? Who are you? What am i looking for? What in celestia's name is going on!? "
Knotty's words pour forth in a near jumble. The pegasus lets out a slight giggle as she turns back to knotty.
"why you?! What ever do you mean Afraid Knot? Did your father not tell you anything? Did he never tell you why you couldn't stay in one place? Why he was always running?"
Knotty's eyes grow as wide as they can be, but before he can speak, the pegasus drops her cloak, which vanishes in a whisp of smoke. she takes off, leaving a faint red streak through the trees as she soars out of sight Though he tries, he just cant make out her cutie mark.
Knotty's horn glows as he sits on his bed. The rope comes down from it's branch and starts to unwind. Knotty stares into space for a moment, wringing the rope in front of himself. His mind races, she must have been talking about somepony else, his father wasn't running. He enjoyed the lifestyle, didn't he? But how does she know his name?
"o.k. Afraid Knot. Follow the river, find the tree, find your namesake. What does that even mean? Maybe if i find her again. I can ask her what she meant about my dad. so i should look for this trinket?"
He groans loudly and flops over on his lumpy bed roll, the rope still twisting through the air. He rolls to his side and watches the rope dance. He thinks of his parents, and of the times they moved in a hurry. It was odd, but he never put much thought into it. Also his mother was great at distracting him, which he figures could have contributed to his ignorance towards the situation.
Within a half an hour, Knotty has his camp packed up. Everything is packed neatly inside his bed roll, which is rolled up tightly and mounted between his bags, on his back. he always travels light. His long rope is tightly coiled and lay beside the bed roll, tied to the specialised strap of his saddle bags. One last check to make sure everything is tied on tight and away he goes. The river isn't hard to find, and with his head hung low he trots on down towards the Everfree.
Before long the river curves in closer to Ponyville. The tree line fades slowly untill there is nothing but a small field separating the town from the river path. Knotty sits and slumps against a wide tree, staring towards ponyville. Thoughts race through his mind, and quickly he is off in space, lost in his own thoughts.
