"Hm, not very often I get mail here." Swift stared down at the letter deposited outside her house. As her eyes darted over it, a bemused expression crosses her face. "Well now, I could use some extra cash. Cm'on Bast, we got work to do." Her orange tabby slipped behind her, and she stepped out of her house. Tossing the letter back into her house, she reflected on what it said with a smirk on her face.
I am writing in the hopes that this reaches the Shadow Thief. As a pony with plenty of money and even more enemies, I currently have need of your services. We shall meet in a location not far from where this letter is set to arrive, a mansion merely four blocks north. I shall be waiting for you inside, and when you arrive we shall discuss the details of your assignment. Simply put, there is a pony who didn't do something, and I want it to look like they did. You're payment shall be one hundred bits, though depending on the quality of your work you could earn more. I hope that this reaches you, and I hope you accept. You have one day to accept, and should you not arrive I will close my doors and you will no longer be welcome. I hope to see you soon.
The envelope was blank with no return or send address. That means it was sent by a courier with very specific instructions. It arrived while Swift was asleep, and though she was a very light sleeper it didn't wake her. That meant the courier must have also had instructions not to disturb her, likely to not give away her new employer. Bah, rich ponies love secrecy. No matter, that's one fat paycheck I'll be getting, and for a simple frame job. It's almost too good to be true. Leaving the alley that served as her front porch, she entered into the mostly empty streets on an evening time Canterlot, the sun just about to leave the sky. Strolling through the streets was a nice relaxing moment for Swift, giving her the rare opportunity to just bask in the beauty of Canterlot. Sadly, the moment did not last long. The letter was true to it's word, and in merely four blocks Swift encountered the mansion spoken of.
It was a rather lavish place, with ornate columns and decorations. Swift wrinkled her nose as she began trotting towards the door. The deep red bricks seemed to glower at her, and the fancy wood door was nearly three times her height. Instead of moving straight to the door, she split to the side and began stalking around the house. It was three, nearly four, stories tall with windows everywhere and a balcony on the back, likely connected to a second floor bedroom. However, there were thick curtains drawn over every window, and Swift could see the outline of what looked to be bars behind the curtains. Great, looks like they've got plenty of ways to keep me in. That balcony's gonna be my only escape routes, and if need be I can teleport out.
Circling back towards the front, Swift paused in front of the door. Glancing around, and seeing nopony there, she slipped deftly into the house. The entrance hall was a large sprawling room with a domed ceiling and crazy decorations. The mahogany floor was freshly waxed and polished, causing Swift to stare at her reflection nervously. Ugh, this place gives me the creeps. Let's just get our job and get done, shall we? Hearing the door slide shut behind her, she called out into the empty room. "Oy! I believe I was called here. I didn't get a name, but they said they were expecting me." The only thing that greeted her was silence, so she moved to a chair along the wall and, very quickly, set herself down in it.
