Canterlot was a very traditional city. Certain ponies would trace their lineage back thousands of years just to claim some semblance of royalty, and they were stubborn enough to hold onto their traditions even as the times changed. If Manehattan was the city that never slept, then Canterlot was the city that never changed. Aristocrats, bureaucracy, classics and cultures, it was all about legacies and doing what your ancestors would have done, and making a long line of ponies who valued old things. This of course extended to rivalries and competitions that were held between families or factions for generations. One such rivalry was the one between the Solar Guard and the Lunar Guard. While they may have worked perfectly fine together to defend the city, and there were certainly a lot of friendships between the guard factions, the two factions were notorious for competing to see which was better when it didn't interfere with work. One of the best ways of doing that was also one of the best stress-relievers; Friday evening fight club.
It was a tradition that went back for hundreds of years, back to the original Dynasty and Royal guard factions before Luna was banished to the moon. Ponies from both guard factions would get together, brawl, bet or watch, and enjoy an evening where the competition could be the bonding focus for all involved. There was always music, cheering, jargon and money exchanging hooves, even drinks and food. It was very much like a party, but where there should be dancing, there was fighting. And if there was one thing that the guard factions were good at, it was fighting, which meant that there was never a dull Friday night for those who decided to go to the club to lose a bit of stress.
So, why in the wide world of Equestria had Nightfall suggested said gathering as the perfect place for date night?
Nightfall was wondering that herself as she waited at the entrance to the castle grounds, squinting slightly as the sun was making its way down behind the mountains. It wasn't a fancy restaurant or a trip to the hospital, but she and Aero were both warriors, so she thought that it might make for a nice night for them to go someplace that they had some experience in. Neither of them had much experience with the whole romance thing, as they had readily discovered during their last outing. And she would feel bad if she let Aero come up with another date by himself. At least this time she could be the one who did all the work to make sure that it was a perfect date night between them.
It had been little under a month since the fiasco that their first date had turned out to be. There had been more get-togethers between them, but it was the usual visits that Aero paid her during her nightly operations whenever he wasn't busy doing something else and whenever she wasn't off on some mission away from guard duties. It had taken her most of that time just to reorganize the patrol schedules so she could get the night off to take him to the club, but she had managed.
Rubbing her right forehoof against her left foreleg, Nightfall couldn't help but feel a little awkward. She almost never went anywhere without her armor, let alone without any clothes at all. It left her feeling open and without the protection she was used to, but she wouldn't have been allowed to fight if she went with armor or clothes. Clothes and armor could lead to serious injuries and accidents, so the club enforced a "no clothes, no weapons" policy to make sure no one got banged up more than a couple of bruises or a broken bone. She had asked Aero to come without his armor during his last visit, since she had figured he'd like to participate as well, but she would leave that up to him whether he wanted to join in or not. One way or another, she was looking forward to showing Aero how the guard vented whenever there wasn't any combat going around the country.
