“And they all live happily ever after,” Sweet Dreams finished, closing her book. The little filly was fast asleep, her eyelids covering her little amber eyes and her breathing soft. Sweet Dreams smiled slightly, folding her wing over the book and gently walking to the bookshelf and placing the book in its original place. She then gently walked out of her daughter’s room and blew out the candle by the doorway.
Despite her happy expression, Sweet Dreams was rather sad at the time. Her love, Watchkeeper, was currently in Canterlot. He was training to become a royal guard. Therefore, she found herself having no one to snuggle with on the couch and no one to praise her for good work. So, naturally, she did the only think that could make her feel better. She walked quietly down the stairs and to the kitchen, where she searched for ingredients for muffins that would make her strong during his travel.
While many of her ingredients were at her shop, she would never leave her house bare. Most of the time, she had at least a pinch of the herbs she needed. If she did not, she would simply travel to the Everfree Forest and retrieve some or just check her garden. What she found in her cabinets, however, absolutely shocked her. All of her herbs… they were gone! She only had ingredients for basic recipes, with no magical properties.
“Oh, no… Oh no, oh no…” Sweet Dreams breathed. She had to prepare breakfast for Pepper tomorrow, and herself as well! With no magical properties, these foods would be… well, just food. Without even a thought, Sweet Dreams threw her hat and cloak on. She then left the house in a hurry. Just as she had thought, her garden was bare as well. She took a deep breath. Dream had never been in the Everfree Forest at night before. Little specks of light were disappearing in the distance, and she knew that she had to do this fast.
A logical pony would’ve probably known that it was unnecessary to leave their home at night simply for ingredients. Sweet Dreams, however, wasn’t a logical pony. As she dashed into the forest, her back hoof was caught by something. She let out a startled scream, then turned to see… it was just a root. She let out a long sigh.
