Overall Persona:
Pink Pearl, or Ambrosia as she calls herself now, has always been a pony who has struggled to find a place to fit in life. As a foal, she was acutely aware of the fact that she was, as far as she could tell, the only unicorn born of the Apple family bloodline (her unicorn mother married into the family). Being a unicorn in a family that was otherwise predominately earth ponies did lead to a slight sense of isolation - while she was accepted openly by the rest of the Apple clan, a part of her never really felt like she was in the right place. Like her mother, she felt like an outsider that had simply been accepted into the circle - a part of it yet not rooted within it. The Apple family had a history that did not feel like her own, after all, and she had always stuck close to her mother as a result.
Nonetheless, Pink Pearl, named after the apple cultivar her family grew, was instilled with the same sense of independence and steadfast work ethics that the Apple family has been known for. For nothing in life has been easy for her. She was born weak and sickly - a pint-sized runt with a weak heart, lungs, and even a bad eye. But her father refused to accept 'weakness' into the Apple family and he was determined to ensure that his daughter grew up strong. She was never coddled, never given special treatment; she worked in the orchards like her older brothers. And through sheer determination, she grew up as strong as the rest of her siblings. Pink Pearl has always been the type of pony to tackle problems on her own - to never admit that a situation was beyond her abilities. Her single-minded determination is part of the reason why she has become the successful businesspony that she is today.
While the rest of the Apple family might have been content harvesting apples until the end of days, Pink Pearl was an ambitious individual and she sought to build a name for herself, rather than rely upon the 'crutch' of the Apple family reputation. In fact, she wanted nothing to do with the Apple family any more. To her, her country upbringings were only going to hold her down and the only way for her to succeed was to shed the excess baggage and start anew. And it wasn't too difficult to start things fresh - her mother had originally hailed from Canterlot and still had unused property in the city. Normally being one reluctant to accept anything that can be considered a 'hand-out,' Pink Pearl made an exception for her mother and moved to Canterlot to carve out a new destiny.
And it was in Canterlot that Pink Pearl, now taking the name Ambrosia, finally found herself. She had always been a business-orientated pony and the glitz and glamour of high society suited her to a tea. She was a masterful businesspony - an ability to socially weave through crowds and form the necessary networks, all while keeping a safe, emotional distance from everypony around her. It gave her the edge she needed to be ruthless to her rivals and make the tough choices necessary for her new business, Ambrosia Imports, to thrive. When it comes down to business and money, she is not a nice pony - she will cheat, kick, steal, and lie so long as she feels she can get away with it in order to acquire what she needs. After several years, her business has grown in leaps and bounds, not through playing nicely with others but by steamrolling any competition that got in her way. It's rumoured that she once even hired pirates to raid her competitor's shipments but, obviously, these are just rumours...
Alas, it's difficult for Ambrosia to switch off from this business mindset. Even her 'close' friends are typically at a distance. And while she considers Canterlot to be her true home, a part of her stills has trouble feeling as though she 'belongs.' In truth, while she has no trouble slipping on expensive jewelry, dolling up her mane, and fraternizing with the social elites, a part of her is still a country pony and, try as she might, she can't always hide it from the world. Her old country accent still has stubbornly persisted despite her best efforts and only through concerted effort is she able to keep it suppressed. Alas, when she becomes angry, flustered, or otherwise distracted, that accent can come out swinging. Tack on her temper and her predisposition towards some of the rough and tumble aspects of country life and you have a country pony trying desperately to hide that fact from the world, like a wolf trying to put on sheep's clothes.
Ambrosia's success has inflated her ego quite a bit. Though her business empire is still growing, she already considers her success as all the evidence she needs to validate her sense of superiority, especially over her country bumpkin relatives. Deep down, though, there are still parts of her that cherish her memories with her family, especially her mother and father. There are often days where she wishes she could just run back to the farm and buck apples with her dad like she did when she was a filly...
