-Personality Stuff-
Likes: As a bookworm, Dark Veil's love is in books: he collect and restore them with patience and mania, letting no one near them. Also, he's foalhood rotated around his old home's library and rooms, and so he like to spend time alone, finding in isolation peace and concentration.
His greatest hobby (or work, as he say) is exploring ancient, forgotten and sometimes even considered cursed ruins. He traveled half of Equestria, finding extraordinary places of dark beauty that only he could ever tell, since no one dared to travel in such places.
Dislikes: His lonely home, and his odd life, gave him a strict hate for sun. Also, there's a fact of his past he's not happy nor willing to tell about his hate for such a star.
One thing that made him grossly mad is sticky hooves on his beloved books. He need hours or even days for cleaning them, and the view of a ruined, decrepit book is enough for saddening him deeply.
What Veil really hate, however, is the one thing that every equestrian do: randomly singing songs. He hate been stuck in a crowd of ponies that start singing and want him to do the same thing.
Dark Veil is a hell of a grump.
Motivation: Exploring the world for getting all the possible informations on the ancient past of Equestria and on the mysteries of the dark cults that inhabited the land.
Strengths: High knowing of dark magic, rituals and summons. Good stamina for run.
Weaknesses/Flaws: Physically weak, poor socialization skills, bad attitude.
Fears: Even if he study dark magic and proprieties of the source of it, Veil is scared of the dark. His search have take him to truths about the world itself that marked his mind forever. Also, his experience in Saddle Arabia gave him a huge terror of deserts and sand. He can still travel somewhere with a desert, but will search into places very close to cities.
However, he experienced something close to a paranormal experience on his own skin, that made him fearful of the outside and of ponies themselves. He tend to explain this fear as "terror from Elsewhere", as his first written book say, a fear of something from a place close to his world, yet isolated.
Overall Persona: A grumpy, gloom pony, who likes to pass the day at home with his books or exploring ancient and maybe forgotten ruins of past pre-equestrian civilizations, possibly religious ones, Dark Veil don't really like to get in a society that let other ponies resolve their personal problems.
In all his life till now, Veil got a maniacal fascination with dark magic: he've find out exceptional truth about the use of this accursed type of magic that only few edgy students of Celestia's school find interesting.
Yet, even if he don't socialize that much, he have a few close friends, outside his family, but this individuals are... odder then him, at times.
History/Background: Some say that his foalhood was a nightmare, and his family hated him. Well, they're wrong !
Dark Veil ,son of Dark Star and Fog Scale, lived the best foalhood a colt could have, just... in the wrong place.
Before moving to Canterlot, his home was a city with a odd name: Arcaneham. Arcaneham was and is, as Veil have found, a place plenty of sinister stories of cults, monsters ecc.
His father was the history teacher of the local university, while his mother, a unicorn, a nurse. After spending years of studying in the family library and attempting University, Veil came in contact with a book full of stories and facts about the ancient, forgotten days of Equestria and signed with the name of Ihaf'Vrit Ahll. After finishing his studies, he passed 4 years in the Saddle Arabian hollow quarter of the desert, returning half dead from a place he called "the black pyramid of the Sun", and speaking of twisted, eldritch things of formless shapes and contorted minds. None have found this place, even if he gave exact coordination of where to find it.
After recovering and getting some mental sanity, he moved to Canterlot, for consulting the library and, later, starting his work as writer and archaeologist.
To this day, he's rarely seen outside his home if not for getting some food or new books, and in his journeys, Veil is said to never stick too much with the ponies of a group, even if he have some bounds of friendships.
One thing is sure: when he sleep, and start speaking, is better to never weak him up.
