-General Stuff-
Name:
Nile Otheos
Nickname/Alias(es):
Nile (sometimes chatterbox if you're being snarky with him)
Race:
Unicorn
Gender:
Male
Age:
Stallion (~23)
Additional Status:
N/A
-Physical Stuff-
Pelt Color:
Greenish teal
Mane/Tail Color and Style:
Gold and green stripes. His mane goes up in the back and forward in the front but it slicked upright in the front
Eye Color:
Golden
Cutie Mark:
A golden Eye of Horus (Egyptian)
Other Scars/Markings:
He doesn't have scars or markings besides the normal amount of little nicks and scars from being clumsy and dropping a glass. He's usually very articulate but everyone makes mistakes from time to time while opening boxes and accidentally cutting your hoof.
Physique:
He's lean and slender, not much muscle or fat but he's not super tall or thin. He's pretty average but doesn't really work out. He balances this with a more or less regulated and healthy diet but that just means he doesn't gain muscle or weight, he just keeps up at one spot. He has good stamina and can run for quite a long time, that's his only "workout", trotting or galloping on a treadmill or around the town.
-Social Stuff-
Current Residence:
Canterlot, specifically in a small house near the library
Job:
Nile works as a linguist expert. He doesn't work for anyone in particular but having such a vast knowledge of languages (body language, written language and spoken language), he helps delegates in and out of Equestria if there's any language barriers. His special talent is language and although his sister is the socialite who's better at talking to ponies, Nile knows how to say things and translate languages. He'll work for whoever will pay him but often times teaches at the Canterlot College with his magic since he works to design vocal and mental spells to help rid ponies of language barriers. Or he'll just be doing a lecture hall, discussing something about languages or teaching a class on it.
Mother:
Speakeasy Otheos; Speakeasy was a motivational public speaker and gave classes and lectures on how to overcome fears of public speaking or just teach classes on how to do it very well. She could read a crowd easily and the words always seemed to come so naturally to her. She knew one or two other languages but mostly, she just enjoyed speaking to crowds and helping motivate ponies to do the same and to be out there, to talk to others and enjoy company around you. She was upbeat and almost always knew just what to say.
Father:
Cadmar Otheos; Cadmar, sometimes known as Caddy, served in the Canterlot royal guard as a regiment leader. He wasn't very high up in the ranks but he was a natural born leader, always taking the role of guiding others and speaking strongly. He was a strategist but worked to not only be head strong but physically strong as well. He enjoyed being liked and respected but he would risk every bit of his reputation if he believed his way of doing things was the right way, no matter how dangerous. He often listened to reason and could negotiate to no end but his strong will often came out on top, even if was wrong sometimes. He trusted his gut and when he met Speakeasy, he knew his gut was right in telling him she was the one.
With both of their personalities being different but similar in a remarkably compatible way, they got married. Both unicorns stayed in Canterlot together and had Nile and his sister, Speakeasy working for the college and Caddy continuing to work for the guard.
Sibling(s):
Cherry Blossom. Nile's only sibling is Cherry Blossom, his younger sister. She takes after both parents, as Nile does, but in different ways than Nile. She has a natural leadership role like her father but has the sharp tongue and wit of her mother, able to negotiate and talk her way in and out of any situation. She knows what to say, when to say it and the tone to say it in. She doesn't know as many languages as Nile in the slightest, nor does she enjoy teaching. She can talk in front of a crowd but prefers just groups at most. She can be witty and sarcastic and she's very expressive, unlike her brother. She can glance at a pony and read their entire expression, their eyes, how they hold themselves, their body language. That's her special talent. She's not that book smart but she's very street smart and ADORES cultures and learning about other creatures and places. She travels all over from equestria to saddle arabia, learning as much as she can about everything, much preferring field work rather than dusty old books, unlike her brother.
Other Family:
no other listed family
Closest Friends:
Nile's closest friends are Chocolate Feathers and Beauregard de Quinn (aka, Chocolate and Quincy). Chocolate used to date Nile and they were close as can be. They loved one another deeply but fell out very hard with Chocolate convinced that Nile was cheating on him. It was a wrong place wrong time sort of ordeal but Chocolate couldn't be convinced, too stubborn to see what was really going on. Nile was too hurt and gave up on it, not bothering to see it through till the end or try and make amends.
Quincy is his closest and best friend who he met through the Canterlot College exchange program. He's from France (or the horse themed pun version of France) And when he came to Equestria, he didn't know a lick of english. Nile, being the one of the top linguists, came in to help and taught him english over the course of a year or so. Quincy quickly became a close and very comforting friend to him, someone he could always talk to. Quincy is a socialite and loves being friends with nearly everyone, outgoing and charming and very kind hearted. He needs love in return but he never hesitates to show kindness to another pony. Through Quincy, Nile met another friend, Adrienne, whom Quincy is dating. She and Quincy travel back and forth between Canterlot and France to go to the two schools back and forth but they're hardly ever separated.

-Personality Stuff-
Likes:
Nile enjoys the finer and quieter things in life. He can appreciate a night out but he's definitely not a club pony or one for loud parties. He likes dinners out with friends and enjoyable chats over coffee. He's not antisocial, he's just more relaxed. He very much enjoys books and he reads them wherever he can get them from. Often his sister sends him books from far away places and he will sometimes learn a whole new language just to read it. He enjoys time alone but still likes company now and again too. Slightly overcast days and warm, clear nights are his favorite and sometimes he'll spend hours under a tree in the castle gardens reading or just basking in the sunshine filtering through the tree leaves, maybe even just talking with whoever's laying down with him. A very peaceful pony. Like his mother, he does enjoy teaching and giving lectures, speaking in front of a crowd didn't come as naturally but he still enjoys it and he will do anything to have a captive audience when talking about what he loves.
Dislikes:
Despite his best friend being a Chef with a tendency for creating desserts (and his only two ex's being named Chocolate and Sherbert) Nile isn't too fond of sweets. He'll taste test things for Quincy or have a cookie but he doesn't really like cake or icing or even ice cream all that much. He really dislikes cold weather but he LOATHES hot, sweaty, insufferable summer days. He also dislikes clubs and being forced into parties or loud music disturbing his sleep or reading. He's no stickler but everyone has their limits and he draws the line somewhere. He's not a huge fan of alcohol and he's iffy with Cider, the apples are just a little too sweet for his tastes. The one thing that really irks him though are ponies who interrupt what he's saying or breaks his line of thought, that frustrates him to no end and he will occasionally snap at a pony for doing it.
Motivation:
Nile is driven by his craving for knowledge and his one big project, creating a spell to, even just temporarily, let a pony speak and understand any language spoken to them. Some unicorns who's cutiemarks are literally magic like twilight, starswirl, starlight, or even trixie have no issue in doing intense magic or creating spells. But Nile isn't incredibly good or incredibly bad at magic so it's very hard for him to create a whole new spell. He's working on it though and he's made some progress, (sweet Quincy is usually his test subject). He really wants to unite ponies and break down barriers, preventing them from being understood. He appreciates and loves the differences in dialects and cultures but his mom was so about togetherness that he couldn't help when it rubbed off on him while growing up. He's a lot like his dad when it comes to gut instinct though, trusting himself above everypony else. He can become stubborn at times but the one thing that's non negotiable is his close friends and family which he'll do anything to protect.
Strengths:
Nile is very good at figuring things out. He's a puzzle guy, an egghead if you will. He's especially good with talking and language, as reiterated many times before. He's an avid reader and can read an entire encyclopedia and absorb nearly all the knowledge in a few weeks at most. Being a helper and translator for delegates often puts him in tense and stressful situations and he handles that very very well. He works very well under pressure and can figure things out very quickly.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
Nile can be skeptical of ponies and often keeps his ring of friends tight and small. He can be short with ponies sometimes and can tend to have a short fuse. He's lied to save his hide and he will sometimes hurt others' feelings if it means solving a problem or something along those lines. He of course feels bad when he hurts others but he can be harsh justify it if "the ends justify the means" applies to the situation. He doesn't handle a lot of his emotions super well but he does at least go to Quincy or Adrienne even if he desperately needs someone or help and he takes care of them in return to the best of his abilities but he doesn't show his love as blatantly as others do.
Fears:
For somepony who can be flat and blunt, Nile is incredibly scared of being completely alone. He needs his friends and he appreciates them in his own special way. He's scared of losing his family and does everything in his power to protect them, even if it happens to put him in danger. He loves his family dearly and doesn't want them gone. He's also mortified of moths, he's perfectly fine with other bugs, even spiders but moths: no deal.
Overall Persona:
Nile can come off as somewhat harsh or unapproachable (see: resting ***** face) but once you approach him and say hello and what you want from him, he can be very kind and helpful, he just has to put on his smile since he doesn't wear it constantly like Quincy. He can also seem antisocial and secluded but he gladly accepts invites to go out and about to movies or a night on the town. He's extremely loyal to his friends but it can be sort of hard to become a close friend to the point of family where he would be that loyal. It's not hard to become just a regular friend though, anyone who can stand him chattering away when he gets on a tangent deserves his friendship honestly. As said, he's very talkative but not very expressive. He can be flat in his tone, not the guy to have elastic expressions or smile big and bright. He's not cocky or arrogant most of the time, he can be while talking about his work or job but he's a pretty nice guy. Friendly, not the best at making friends but he wont turn a cheek to someone who's offering to be a companion or friend. He tries his best but personally just prefers a quiet night in, working or chatting over coffee or even reading books with someone. Finally, Nile is a unicorn from Canterlot, meaning he holds himself thus. He typically holds himself high and holds high expectations and when they aren't met he can be a bit of a critic.
History/Background:
Nile was technically born in Fillydelphia and lived there until he was 4 or 5 while his dad was stationed there but soon he, his dad and his mom moved to Canterlot and when he was 5, they had a filly, his sister. He was skeptical about his sister but soon grew to love her and became close to her. From the outside, it doesn't seem like they're very close but the little things they do together truly show how much they love one another. Nile grew up guiding his sister with his parents and learning from everything around him. He spent a whole lot of his time with his face in a book and when he suddenly ran out of books to read in his house, he went to the college with his mom to find some new ones. He found a cool book on ancient civilizations and when he found the Hieroglyphs, he searched the whole library to find a key and was soon reading an ancient language fluently like it was his own. He found how much he LOVED doing that and got his cutie mark. From that point on, he went with his mom to work and read through every book he could get his hooves on in the language department of the College and even spread his horizons and it's been like that ever since. He even took classes there and thus led him to become an on occasion lecturer.
Gosh that's a lot to read and I genuinely thank whoever reads/read all of this whole mess, goodness gracious. Nile isn't even my sona!! I did put a whole lot of thought into him and his character and even the characters around him. I appreciate you wonderful mods for reading through all of this and for running/creating this site in the first place so I can continue to let my wonderful Nile flourish! You all deserve the highest of fives /)
