-Personality Stuff-
Likes: strength, honor, discipline, selflessness, ponies with purple eyes (his wife)
Dislikes: Cowards, weakness, incompetence, morally grey thinkers.
Motivation: The two things in Saber’s life that he values the most are his wife and his honor. He came from a family of soldiers on his father’s side and from a young age was taught the value of keeping one’s promises and making Equestria a better place for those around him. His wife is his second motivation; to him she is the most selfless pony in all Equestria and he endeavors to be worthy of her love.
Strengths: Loyalty to a fault. If Silver Saber gives his oath to some-pony that he will protect and serve him/her for life, there is no question that is what he will do. To do less would be disgraceful in his eyes. Silver is also highly chivalrous; he protects anypony weaker than himself without hesitation, especially mares and foals and even at personal expense. Honor/honesty are also among his most admirable qualities. He never lies if he can avoid it.. As expected of someone with a cutie mark of two crossed sabers and years of practice in sword combat, Silver is a master with swords, though he prefers sabers and rapiers because heavy swords are more difficult for him to manipulate with his magic, especially at his age. He has the ability to enchant his swords to do different things, such as dispel magic on touch, cut through solid objects such as stone, and deal non-lethal instead of lethal damage.
Weaknesses/Flaws: Silver’s integrity sometimes works against him. He could easily be tricked or manipulated into doing things he later regretted because of his inflexibility and non-pragmatic attitude towards keeping promises at all costs. Some might call him gullible for this reason. Silver is also not an easy pony to get along with. Because he is inflexible, he has difficulty making and keeping friends. Unless a pony demonstrates an abundance of admirable qualities, he is likely to keep them at arms length, like he does most every-pony else. When Silver has made up his mind about a pony, it is nearly impossible to change it, leading many to consider him stubborn. His accomplishments and position have made him slightly conceited, which also doesn’t help him in making friends. While he would not consider it a weakness, Silver doesn’t believe in coddling ponies with white lies to protect their feelings. Instead, he will state the truth bluntly and honestly, regardless of how that might make some-pony feel; for this reason he sometimes comes across as insensitive.
Fears: Not finding his wife before he dies.
Overall Persona: Silver is a military pony through and through. His father, grandfather and great grandfather were all members of the Crystal Empire military in the years before King Sombra came to power. No other career path ever really occurred to him. While he is outwardly not the most friendly, kind or gentle pony, Silver does consciously serve as Captain of the guard so those qualities can exist in others without them becoming the victims of stronger, more aggressive creatures. He realizes that without Princess Cadence and Shining Armor, the love that powers the crystal ponies might fall into despair and the crystal heart would cease to function, ending the magical protection that keeps the crystal Empire from experiencing the harsh climate of northern Equestria, thus he equates protecting Princess Cadence with protecting the empire itself. While he has never publicly expressed anything but his usual stoic loyalty to Shining Armor, in private he finds Shining Armor’s inability to defend Cadence on their wedding day distasteful and considers him too soft to competently command the Crystal Empire’s armed forces. His mindset is not too far from that of Snowfall Frost; he wants to help Equestria, but not in a way that involves friendship or anything of that sort. Silver despises the cowardly, the selfish and the greedy and the deceitful and will seek to destroy them outright at every opportunity, either by exposing their vices to higher authorities, or by simply killing them on the spot. His tactics have often been criticized overtly brutal and draconian, but he tends to dismiss these as 'the complaints of bleeding heart liberals'. He is also prone to testing ponies he meets mentally, physically and spiritually to see what kind of pony they are. There are a bunch of ways he does this, but most of them involve trial by combat.
History or Background:
As the Captain of the royal guard in the crystal empire, Silver led a brave but ultimately futile struggle against Sombra and was captured by enemy forces. Sombra made an example out of Silver by having him stripped of his title, publicly whipped and thrown into a dungeon for the rest of the war until Princess Celestia and Princess Luna freed him and everyone else during the liberation of the empire. Unfortunately, Sombra cursed the empire into non-existence until it re-appeared a thousand years later. While determining whom to appoint to the position of Captain of his royal guard, Shining Armor uncovered the story of Silver’s fight against Sombra and was impressed enough to re-appoint Silver to his old position. Tragically, while the rest of the crystal ponies re-appeared, his wife did not. Unsure whether his wife was still lost in time due to Sombra’s malice or there was some as yet unexplained reason for her disappearance, Silver set out to find the truth and re-unite with his wife again…when his duties permitted.
