Dislikes: Discrimination of any kind, immoral ponies, illegal activities, sarcasm (only when it goes over his head), getting interrupted
Motivation: Solar Burst is convinced that his role in life is to shed light on the various social inequalities in Equestria, be that due to money, gender, race, or just ponies in general being mean to other ponies for not-good reasons. He is fascinated by law and wants to make Equestria a better place by protecting the legal rights of all its citizens.
Strengths + Weaknesses:
Each point includes both a strength aspect and a weakness aspect.
Perseverance (or Stubbornness, or Bullheadedness) - Sol has levels of determination fit for ten ponies and he absolutely will not stop until he is finished with whatever it is he's doing. Sometimes this is a good thing, sometimes it's a bad thing. When he has his mind set on something, that's it. He always has to have the last word unless he knows he can't win, and even then he doesn't go down without a fight. This often gets him in trouble. He just can't leave things alone.
Focus - He has a laser-sharp focus, which ties in somewhat to his perseverance. This is especially helpful during school because of the huge amounts of studying he has to do. Sometimes he's focusing on whatever he's thinking about more than his surroundings, though, which leads to him running into things, staring into space, etc. He often forgets to eat and drink because he's so focused on his schoolwork.
Speech - Solar Burst is an excellent speaker and always has been. He's quite eloquent in debate, and will readily debate with and/or go off on a passionate rant to anypony who chooses to listen and who gets him wound up. He will even talk if nopony chooses to listen, if he's agitated enough, which makes him seem obnoxious at times and usually tends to drive ponies away. Sometimes they just happen to be interested in what he's talking about, though, which means he gets an audience. Usually he just gets told to be quiet by his peers.
Flaws:
Perfectionism - Because he's so perseverant, he won't stop until everything is perfect. This applies mainly to his studies and schoolwork, and results in him often pulling all-nighters. He's even overworked himself to the point of collapsing from exhaustion. Three times, in fact.
Seriousness - His studies and his opinions on societal happenings seem to be all that he cares about. He is a very serious pony and pretty tense most of the time. Although he's very smart, he tends to miss the point of many jokes, especially sarcasm. He understands what it is, he just habitually takes things as they are and believes nearly everything ponies say, which makes him bad at picking up on the humorous nuances of sarcasm.
Fears:
Failure - This is the one thing he is most afraid of, and is the main reason why he's a perfectionist. He can't stand doing anything less than his best because if he does less than 100%, it creates more opportunities for failure. That kind of failure is wracked with guilt as well, which is equally as unpleasant to him.
Overall Persona: Solar Burst is a very stern young stallion, although very caring at heart. Years of seeing grade-school foals being bullied for all sorts of things and how classist and how unsafe some parts of Equestria are has both hardened him and made him more susceptible to getting attached, much like how one gets attached to a specific charity or cause. He loves Equestria and wants to serve the ponies in it, and the only way he knows how to do that is by speaking out against the injustices in the world. He's disgusted by them, by the thought that ponies can be so cruel to each other, and so he wants to make the world a better place. Physical protection is not his strong suit; he prefers the written and spoken word to get his message across.
He is strong-willed and confident, unafraid to say what's on his mind (unless it's harmful, of course). Although usually quiet, he is not shy; he is just typically more interested in following a conversation than being a part of it until something needs to be said. Sol often calls ponies out for any small misdemeanors he sees, like somepony picking up bits another pony dropped and not returning them right away, for example.
Despite all his confidence, however, Sol's social skills aren't actually that good and he tends to be more on the awkward side. His lengthy and erudite rants and his serious demeanor usually irritate and drive his peers and other ponies away, which is why he doesn't have a whole lot of friends. That, and the fact that he's emotionally detached from basically everything save for the things he's very passionate about. He has never shown any interest in courting anypony nor has anypony stuck around with him long enough for a romance to build, if he is even interested in romance at all. Sol is also very intense and has a tendency to lean into others' personal space and lock eyes when he's getting agitated. His resting face more closely resembles a glare than anything, although it changes into a true one when he actually gets mad.
History/Background:
Solar Burst was born in Cloudsdale. His family was quite wealthy, what with his father being in the Royal Guard and his mother a mayoral assistant, along with preexisting wealth. He was an only child and lived a pampered life, for the most part, although he never let himself become a spoiled brat and his parents didn't either. In fact, he was taught to be modest when discussing money with other ponies, especially since he was considered upper class.
Sol attended flight school with all the other pegasus foals and was mostly average. He wasn't a particularly weak nor a terribly strong flyer and could have done well as a weatherpony had he chosen to go down that path. He saw a fair share of bullying in school, most of which was directed at other ponies. For about half a year he did get picked on for "looking like a girl" after helping a filly with a bully, but he managed to shut the bullies down by stating that they were bullying him because they were insecure about themselves. Even as a colt Sol always stood up for the underdogs. Living life as wealthy as he was had taught him not that he was better than anypony else but instead that every pony comes from a different background and that material wealth didn't really matter. True wealth came from character, as his grandmother often told him.
He got his cutie mark around the same time that most foals do, after he stood up to other ponies' bullies and acted as a confidence booster to the victims several times. To him, the mark meant that he was the sunlight and that it was his job to spread justice through the cloudy and unjust world.
The pegasus had always known that he wanted to serve the citizens of Equestria, and enrolled in the Royal Guard Academy in Canterlot with a recommendation from his father. Solar Burst quickly realized that although being a guard was very noble and proud cause, he was not one to enjoy the physical part of the job. He hated how much combat was involved, so after a very lengthy consideration and many sleepless nights, he dropped out of the Academy. During his time there, however, he discovered his love for law and often spent breaks in the Canterlot library poring over thick books.
Soon after leaving the Academy, he got accepted to the Equestria Royal School of Law and moved to Cambridle, which is where he currently lives. Cloudsdale, Canterlot, and Ponyville are not too far from where he is so on breaks from school or on weekends he often visits those towns.
"Light of Justice" is a nickname given to him by his peers. It was originally intended to make fun of him because of how serious he is about law, but it instead backfired and he ended up liking the sound of it. He adopted the name for himself and sometimes signs personal notes with it.
