"What do you mean you're all out? You're never out. Last seven times I'd been here that entire shelf was chock-full of azure wormroot! Surely there must be some coming in, right?" As had become common as of late, Augen Horns had been running menial errands for his roommate. Of course, most of the shopping list had not been an issue. Tomato stock, onions, greyleaf, oregano... All simple enough to find. Usually wormroot wasn't an issue, but for once the spice trader seemed to have run up dry. "Looky pard'ner, really am sorry," the beige stallion behind the counter said, sighing as weighed up the greyleaf and oregano. "but somepony already cleared us out of wormroot. You want somethin', ya really gotta beat out the other customers. Tough luck, but business is business." The stallion gave a shrug, to which Augen just gave a knock to his horns, thinking.
"... Ya know," the spice trader said, interrupting the silence. "I usually order from afar... A bit of a cost, but likin' to play things safe. If you really need the root that badly, reckon ya could always go to..." The stallion paused and flicked off the light switch and aimed a flashlight at his face from below. "THE EVERFRE--" "The Everfree Forest? Guess if I have to," Augen interrupted, flipping the lights back on. "I guess I could... Just figured stickin' around in P.V. would be a lot quicker... OH, how much will that be," he asked, pointing to the oregano and greyleaf the trader had been weighing.
----------
After having dropped off his purchases and explaining to Charming Sky where he was going, Augen Horns set out on a task which, he acknowledged, was probably not worth the time and effort it would take. Still, he thought, it was a good excuse to get out of town. The sun had been nearing the horizon, and the sky took on a gradually oranger tone. Should be time enough before summer to find what he'd need, he told himself in silence as his trot through the fields outside Ponyville came to an end. The edge of the forest had come into clear view, and it wouldn't be long until the goat found himself therein. "Huh. I never really understood why ponies seemed so skittish of this place," he muttered to himself. "... Wonder if I'll find out."
