Manehattan, 1993 p.c. It was a nice day on the city, sunny with a little breeze. The summer was coming, dispelling the cold of the previous months with a sweet temperature although a bit windy.
The city was quite active as usual, the sun celebration was the main event organised in Manehattan, an exceptional event where Celestia will come to check the city's states and see if the Manehattanite government –and population- have grievances.
But, aside the city centre, another event was organised. An biannual one whose the aim was not celebration, but peer support : The "Secours Populaire" (People's Aid), a charity event created in 1618 by one of the wealthiest family from Manehattan, the Elysion House. The Honoré Foundation in association with the ENAIP (Equestrian National Aid for Impecunious Ponies).
The main activity of this charity event was to distribute free meals for the paupers and the street children, orphans. The meals were not gastronomic, yet there was enough choice and also enough food for the whole week. Mostly financed by Elysion, the chefs are proposing different meals, menus that people can chose, to avoid food wastage: Pasta, sup, sandwich, etc.. but also viennoiseries and drinks (hot as icy).
Under big tents, the event was localised in a desert part of the city due to a compromise with the nobility and Elysion : "we help you but you bring them out of our sight", or something like this. But in a way the place was spacious and as usual a lot of ponies went, and not only Manahettanite ones. At the disappointment of Elysion and the foundation which have hoped to see fewer ponies than during the previous years.
Three chefs, ten volunteers, some helpers, a doctor and the event's director, it was the staffs taking care of the event even if some city guards were patrolling to prevent any misbehaviour, especially that the actual lord of Elysion was present to manage and help the staff.
Even if the event was biannual, the Honoré foundation (created in 1790's by Rosace of Elysion the 6th head of Elysion House in the hope that her son, Honoré, takes the helm) was permanently open to help beggar, poor ponies and orphans… but the problem was that most of the paupers were too "proud" to ask help, even if weirdly they didn't hesitated to come at the event.
Anyway the ambiance here was warm and laid back; ponies were eating happily or chatting whilst foals had fun as best possible. Not far from them, an old unicorn was sat, a cane near of him, looking to the feast with a joyless smile. Far from looking like Granysmith, he was a still well-preserved unicorn even if he was actually 105 years old. Wearing nothing but a top hat, somepony could think he was just a bystander.
A teacup levitating near of him, the stallion was gazing aimless with melancholia in his eyes, waiting anyone which would needed of him. For questions, or fixing issues. Due to his brooding allure and firm face made him looking unwillingly intimidating. Even if most of the paupers knew him and his family. And above-all, knew that he was not always like that, but it is another story.
