(Pio is the only of my OCs affected by this and as such, he's the only one mentioned.
Basically, what was your OC's reaction to the return of the Crystal Empire? Put their response here.)
Cpt. Pioneer, Counter-Intelligence Officer of the Royal Observer Corps
There was a tense air in the Canterlot Palace. News was spreading throughout the Guard of the return of the Crystal Empire, and Twilight and her friends had just begun on their journey to the north to help with the returning Crystal Ponies adjust to the modern day. It wasn't their modernization that the members of the Guard were dwelling on, though. All of a sudden, some evil foreign King had come suddenly back from the dead and they were just hearing about it now? It didn't help that even the Princesses knew very little about him, and the Observer Corps, even bolstered by the Eclipsa's knowledge, knew even less. It was disconcerting-- there was yet ANOTHER enemy that they were not prepared for and came from nowhere. With the Battle for Canterlot still fresh in everypony's minds, at least those of the Royal Guard and EIA's commanders, it was not a happy bit of news to receive. On the other hoof, many saw that this may be, on the bright side, a good time to renew the reputation of the Guard if push came to shove, but it didn't seem like that was going to happen. The Elements and a Princess were on the job, and even if they couldn't handle it, the general consensus was that nopony in the Guard could handle it either.
Pioneer didn't take this too well. The loss at the wedding weighed heavier on his mind than anypony else. He leaned on a balcony in the lower areas of the palace, gazing begrudgingly off to the north. If any ancient evil king was coming, Pio would catch HIM off guard this time. He wasn't going to lose the Palace again as long as he lived. His sighs caught the attention of one of the Guard passing behind him. "Something wrong sir?" he asked. Pio sighed again. "No opportunity here to redeem myself after Canterlot..." he said.
"Let it go sir. If Sombra commes here with his men, we'll be ready to take them and you'll get your chance. You hate rebels more than anypony I know. You'll be fine." "Which was exactly why I was denied any missions. I hate them way too much, and King Sombra feeds off hatred." Pio said, going to a stand from leaning on the railing. "If I personally went after them, I might actually feed him and make him stronger." he said. "Can you just not hate them? Surely the Eclipsa knew SOMETHING about the Empire? Didn't they prepare to, I don't know, take him down or something?" the Guard asked. "We didn't think it was going to return, though! And we knew even less than the Princesses did. We weren't prepared to fight for them or anything, and we knew absolutely nothing about this 'Sombra' guy. Yeah, forget it, I'm not giving that knave the title of 'King'...." Pio said with a sneer. "There's that hate again, sir."
Pio sighed. "A prime reason why I shouldn't be allowed to go. It's just something I need to work on." he said, looking away. "Don't you guys know a lot about Anti-Magic? Isn't there something you can do about this? To, I don't know, prepare if the Elements fail?" the Guard asked. "Yeah, but this 'hate' magic is tricky. Hatred is in the same realm as Harmony in that respect, and only Harmony can defeat it. I'm sure we could cauterize it, but the EIA can't do this. This... You know, this...uh...well, erm, Harmony and Hatred are not magic in the conventional sense. It's above our field of study."
"We should still prepare as much as we can." the Guard said. "Indeed we should." Pio responded, starting off in the direction of the EIA office within the palace.
