Mane/Tail Color and Style: The mane pushed back from his face by his goggles, his free-flowing hair is two shades of dark reds. It is not short, but not quite as long as a mare's. His tail reaches slightly past his back knees and is also in two shades of dark red.
Eye Color: Dark green
Cutie Mark: The cutie mark resembles a sealed, bronze book with steam escaping its pages.
Other Scars/Markings: No scars, but may occasionally have gunpowder remnants on face and in mane.
Physique: Average build. Not really a sight to behold. Quite smaller than many canterlot stallions.

Likes: Nightfall enjoys reading old Ponish literature in order to gain information on the past. He likes to observe the world and see the mechanics of nature in order to advance his knowledge. Using this knowledge, he experiments and tinkers, building small contraptions and making natural anomalies. He loves to go out into the world and sit in the quiet and observe the world. He can often get himself into dangerous situations doing this, but he manages.
Dislikes: Nightfall is not a fan of loud things. Be it sports or large get-togethers. He does not like to stand in front of large crowds, as he has accrued a form of stage-fright by being alone for long periods of time and not often being in the presence of more than five ponies at the same time. He is not entirely introverted, but he does not entirely feel welcome around ponies.
Motivation: The pursuit of knowledge and the aching for adventure.
Strengths: Smart, intuitive.
Weaknesses/Flaws: On the weaker side. Not the best at being sociable (not really introverted, but more socially awkward). Bad memory.

Nightfall Futz enjoys the pursuit of knowledge, even when he might be putting himself (and possibly others) in danger. He enjoys visiting Old Ponish ruins and studying the past in order to find knowledge to aid the future. He thinks analytically, putting his database of knowledge before his emotions. Due to his focus on researching into the past and secluding himself in a basement, he often finds himself without knowledge of recent events.
Nightfall enjoys being inside and in the dark quiet when he is working on his projects and finds it difficult to focus when others are around him. He loves to venture out into the unknown to learn, but is more than happy to go with people much braver and headstrong when it comes to fighting possible threats.
As much knowledge as Futz learns, he fears the end: learning everything there is. While he knows he will absolutely not reach this point, the idea of such grand boredom brings chills up his spine. He likes to share the knowledge he has acquired with others, but never likes going up in front of large groups. Due to severe memory loss, he keeps several journals to log his discoveries and his experiences. He hopes that one day he will be able to sell books filled with the information about his travels and information about species as a way of earning income to fund his projects in steam mechanization and magic. While there are many opponents stronger than he, he uses his wits and knowledge to gain the upper hand, often using homemade gadgets and trinkets. He is, on average, more quiet and not overly flamboyant, but he has been known to sometimes have spurts of excitement when met with certain activities, areas, or items.
History or Background:
Nightfall was born in Canterlot, but due to unknown circumstances, was given up for adoption. Nightfall never knew his parents, and he searched for any information of them, but there were no ponies around that night when his parents left his on the doorstep.
From a young age, Nightfall noticed oddities about the world around him and was interested in the pursuit of knowledge. He would go out and observe the world in the quiet of the forests. His knowledge led him to try to create things of his own. He would run around and find scraps of items not being used and take them back down into the basement of the orphanage, where the old ponies running the orphanage allowed hum to set up a small workshop.
They were amazed by his magical talent and prompted him to try to enter Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. He entered the testing rooms one day, ready for anything. Four judges sat far above him, looking down at him disapprovingly. Fear struck him, never before did he have to do magic in front of other ponies, especially not when being judged. Struck with stage fright, he failed his entrance exam to the school. Shamed, he locked himself away in the basement and stuck to himself.
Being hidden away for a long time, he was unappealing to those who looked in the orphanage for a young colt. This kept him stuck in the orphanage's care for many, many moons. Finally, when he was old enough, Nightfall was free to leave the orphanage. The elder's still let him stay around and use the basement for his experiments. It is better to do it in the basement, away from other ponies, because they may sometimes be combustible or cough out large plumes of smoke.

It was surprisingly difficult to get it just right with the materials he had at hand, so often he crashed, usually head first. After many failed attempts and many head injuries, Nightfall developed a slight head problem. Memories would sometimes randomly disappear for short periods of time from his head, and reappear sometime later. To make sure he would not ever forget anything when he needed to, Nightfall kept a journal log of his days and kept it with him at all times, in his saddlebag prototype of the Pegasus wings, which only gave him short periods of gliding at that time.
