General
Name:
Her given name is Atalanta.
Nickname(s)/Alias(es):
She is sometimes called Ata or Lanni, both of which are simply segments of her name.
Race:
As the feathered wings on her back may lead one to believe, Atalanta is a pegasus.
Gender:
Atalanta is proudly female.
Age:
As of now, Atalanta is a filly, about twelve in human years.
Additional Status:
Atalanta is what most would consider a "street mouse."
Physical
Pelt Color:
While actually a soft beige, Atalanta's coat often appears darker than it is because of how dirty she usually is.
Mane/Tail Color and Style:
Both dark teal in color, Atalanta's mane is a mess of wild curls that stick out in all directions with an absurd level of buoyancy, and her tail would be much the same if she didn't keep it cut very short. As is, it's basically a puff ball. She doesn't brush either often, and as a result, they're usually a complete mess.
Eye Color:
A dark but vivid shade of teal to match her mane, Atalanta's eyes are large, round, and framed by dark eyelashes.
Cutie Mark:
Atalanta has yet to discover her Cutie Mark.
Other Scars/Markings:
Ever since she was a child, Atalanta has had a diamond patch on the center of her forehead that is a slightly lighter shade of beige than the rest of her coat. She also has a lot of mild scars on her legs from her fights and general recklessness.
Physique:
Tall and spindly for her age, Atalanta has long, willowy limbs and an overall scrawny physique. She's recently started to acquire a bit of muscle, but even then, it's all pretty svelte.
Social
Parents:
Atalanta is the result of a brief fling between Blue Aster, a humble earth pony with an affinity for gardening, and Thunder Dust, a bold weather pegasus.
Sibling(s):
Atalanta is an only filly.
Other Family:
Given that neither of her parents are very in touch with their families, Atalanta doesn't know about any of her potential relatives.
Closest Friends:
Considering she spent most of her childhood tucked in an isolated nook in the White Tail Forest and only recently started venturing into Ponyville, it's no surprise that she doesn't yet have any friends.
Mental
Likes:
Interestingly enough, Atalanta actually enjoys fighting. Now, she doesn't enjoy constantly needing to defend herself or fight for survival, but she enjoys casually sparring, when the stakes aren't high and she's fighting for fun rather than protection. She also likes flowers and gardening more than she cares to admit, and has a major sweet tooth, with an affinity for peanut butter cookies.
Dislikes:
Atalanta has a crippling fear of thunderstorms, probably a result of her mother unintentionally unlocking her outside of their cottage during a storm when she was six years old. She also gets anxious around water, since she never learned to swim, and hates hot weather--an unfortunate combination, since she can't swim to cool off like most ponies can.
Motivation:
Atalanta's main motivation is to survive and provide for herself: she doesn't want to have to depend on anyone else. She will be successful, and she'll do it on her own. Though she won't admit it, she'd also like to establish some proper, close relationships, which her crass nature makes difficult.
Strengths:
Despite her small size, Atalanta is a strong fighter. What she lacks in brute strength, she makes up for in agility and craftiness, and it serves her well. She's also a remarkably resourceful filly who can find her way out of most any situation, and can be surprisingly charming when she wants to be.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
Atalanta can be very reckless and brash, and often throws herself headfirst into things without thinking them through first. Her aggressive nature also results in her picking fights wherever she can, sometimes ones she can't win, for essentially no reason, which is not only annoying, but dangerous.
Fears:
As stated above, Atalanta's main fear is thunderstorms, but she's also afraid of dogs due to once being bitten by one.
Overall Persona:
Atalanta is the exact opposite of what anyone wanted her to be, and she prides herself on the fact. With a short temper and a sharp tongue, she always has a few snappy insults tucked up her sleeve and is very sassy, not to mention extremely independent and defiant. Tell her to do something, and her first reaction will be to do the polar opposite. She lacks any form of tact and is bitter as a sort of self-defense mechanism, very headstrong and stubborn. Though not exceptionally bright, she's far from dumb and is quick-witted and resourceful, coming with unlikely solutions to every problem she's presented with, solutions that often depend on athleticism and luck rather than logic and strategy. Though gruff, she's also roguishly charming, what with her cheeky and tough demeanor. Stealthy and manipulative when she wants to be, she's got magnificent skill when it comes to weaving together half-truths and falsehoods to create a believable story. Though she could definitely be described as ruthless, willing to do whatever is necessary to get what she wants or protect someone she loves, she's also loyal to a fault and, to some degree, noble. She'd throw herself in front of an arrow before she let someone she cared for, of which there are currently none, be hurt. Beneath the flippant and defensive exterior, Atalanta is actually a very anxious, playful child who just wants someone to take care of her and play with her, but she learned the hard way that she'd have to toughen up to handle the real world, so she did.
Background
History:
Born to Thunder Dust and Blue Aster, Atalanta was raised under the sole care of her absent-minded mother. After all, her parents had never been in an official relationship, and Thunder Dust's job kept him far too busy for the responsibility of caring for a child, though he was begrudgingly fond of his tiny filly. Thunder Dust would stop in to visit every now and again, and Atalanta looked forward to these visits until she was about ten years old, at which point she started to wonder why her father wasn't around for much of her childhood and began to resent him for it. Blue Aster more than made up for Thunder Dust's absence in the love department, but was hardly a suitable mother, very distant, breezy, and forgetful. Far from a suitable mother, Atalanta has many conflicted feelings towards her hippy-dippy ditz of a mom. Nowadays, she'll go days on end without returning home to Blue Aster, and finds that the mare hardly notices.
