The cold weather was not always Calvin's favorite time of the year. The month just before November, the month of nothingness... And January, another month of gray nothingness. It disappointed him, to have to wake up in the middle of winter only to see the whole town blanketed in a sheet of soft snow every day. Where did all of the colors go? The rich gold, the purple, the fancy tile patterns on the streets, they were all erased.
"Oh boy," Calvin rose up from his bed to sit and rubbed his eyes. "What time is it...?" He glanced at his alarm clock. Two hours before 7? Must've been the unbearable excitement for Christmas Break.
The stallion plopped onto his floor with a stern look of determination in his eyes. I can go out in the snow, let's do this. He slid on his heavy jacket, a vibrant purple, some unnecessary gloves, scarves, and two layers of socks to keep him the coziest in town. He thought for a moment about how smart he was, he actually bothered to buy his gear before winter even started, the 70% deals seemed very late in the days around Christmas, so why wait?
Stepping in the snow was not as easy as you'd think for Cal. Touching the cold, lifeless ice felt weird, as if you were smelling a flower, and then suddenly shoved a mint down your throat to wash away the wonderful scent. Down near the South around the countryside seemed more fitting, the sunsets have been always warmer than midday, it was windy, but not too chilly at night. There was no snow, and definitely no need to waste money on... Snuggies.
Enough rambles, it was time to get out there and socialize like he always did. Whenever he had the chance to without bothering anyone, anyway.
The blue stallion reached his leg outside of his doorstep, the snow crunched under his hoof as he walked around on his hind legs in it. Cal closed his door and stood normally, grabbing a chunk of the ice particles and eating it just for the sake of it. As he wandered the pathways of the empty streets, he kicked a pile of snow and rolled it around the ground to make it bigger. He soon tossed it around, throwing the ball up in the air. Calvin waited, and waited, and waited for anyone to appear. Still. Nothing. You'd think that a population of ponies in such a crowded town would end up having constant rush hours, but no. It was always quiet, too quiet. He never liked having space, he always loved cuddling up close to warm and secure areas.
He sat on a wooden bench, glancing around the white town. His work didn't open until 9, and cleaning was the only thing he could think of at the moment. Maybe... Cleaning out his sadness? No, too dramatic.
"I'll just, uh... Wait here.... Alone." Cal yelled in the empty streets, waiting for a response. The only thing he got back was the echo that teased him of his loneliness. The loneliest Christmas in Equestria, huh? Someone should title a book with that.
