General Stuff
Name: Anna Oatley
Nickname/Alias(es): Annie | Annie Oatley
Race: Earth Pony
Gender: Female
Age: Mare (Roughly 30 Years old accordingly in human ages)
Additional Status: May exaggerate her fame and prowess to big city folk – but she was sure a pride and joy in Appleloosa. One of the best and youngest law recruits ever – and one of the first ladies to make deputy, too.
Physical Stuff
Pelt Color: Dusty brown; a rather plain, non-obtrusive, salt of the earth appearance. Her legs darken into a muddy brown color starting about mid-calf, and her rump, just above her cutie mark, has a spotted appearance.
Mane/Tail Color and Style: Her mother always called it “Tumbleweed Yella” - and that is certainly true to today. Pale bleached mane and tail that is more often than not braided in two tight plaits or one long one. Her tail is knotted short – to keep out off her way.
Eye Color: Chocolate brown
Cutie Mark: Three oat stalks buried perpendicular in a tri-colored target (in parody of arrows). Primarily golden yellow (oat stalks), red (middle ring), blue (Outer Ring) and white (center circle).
Other Scars/Markings: From a young age, she had an issue with freckles – something to do with constantly being out in the sun. This hasn't halted as she has gotten older.
Physique: Annie was never meant to be a delicate flower like her sisters. She is a bulky young filly with long, stilt-like legs and a rather manish (stallionish?) Appearance. It doesn't help that, since coming to the city, she has developed a bit of a sweet tooth and a penchant to wash every meal down with cider. No fainting little filly, her!

Motivation:
Annie has always been motivated by a thirst for justice. She has learned about the desire to fight right and wrong all the time. Besides this, she is a bit of a showoff- and will prove herself to be better than any stallion in her field. There is a glass ceiling she feels in her chosen field, and she is determined that she can do better than any guy in her department. This motivates her to constantly be on the top of her game.
Strengths:
Annie is a strong fighter with a good 'horse sense', who is particularly smart at physical things and can't really be topped when it comes to knowing right from wrong. She is physically strong and loving of all things outdoors, never shying away from messier tasks. She has a talent for spitting and lasso tricks...as well as being a particularly hard runner. She may not claim to be the fastest, but she definitely has endurance to keep running after others have given up.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
While she is far from dumb, she isn't particularly good when it comes to desk work, reading, or filling out paperwork. Most say this might be because she has issues reading written words, but truthfully she just doesn't have the patience. She doesn't have an off switch when it comes from competition - she likes to show off on the job, particularly when partnered or challenged by a stallion. She is also quick to anger, and known for holding grudges. Lastly, she has a habit of misunderstanding of city/urban customs, as well as things like sarcasm and colloquialisms. She is a literal girl.
Fears:
Due to the love of her job, and seeing how many of her sisters have given up on their own dreams in favour of starting families, she is wary and afraid of being tied down by family or responsibilities to a stallion anytime soon. Not that she is particular against family life, just that she could never imagine herself being a mother, and that frankly terrifies her. More from the fact she feels that, deep down, she doesn't have a motherly or nurturing bone in her body. She also fears that a family life will cause her to lose her edge, become soft or stop her from needs getting done out of fear of injuring herself or putting others in her family at risk This is part of the reason she may have chosen to leave work in Appleossa. Lastly, like any lawpony, she has a healthy fear of being injured in the line of duty; just for the sake that she has no idea what she could do with herself if she couldn't do her job.
Overall Persona:
Annie is a no-nonsense, salt-of-the-earthpony if there ever was one. She loves her job; bringing in the bad boys, and is particularly known for her skills with a lasso and her drive to always get her man. She is a sort of black sheep in her family; taking more after the men in her family than the ladies. There is not a lick of ladylike behaviour in this mare – she likes to roll in the dust and be treated like one of the boys.
Since becoming a transfer to the city of Ponyville, she has found herself somewhat of a fish out of water, not even finding a sense with the Apple family – though they certainly sound similar. Those folk have been 'tamed' honestly, by being so close to the city folk. The thing that most excites her is the big city ways – which she has never seen before. But for every thing she finds there there is about a hundred other things that confuse, if not outright infuriate her. She misses the 'good old days' and her family back on the Western Front.
Annie is a hard mare to handle – she is easily affronted, and does not take apologies easily. If you anger her, she will likely hold a grudge to her grave: but if you get on her good side, you can no only find a strong companion, but one who is loyal to a fault and will leap into a fight in your favour at the drop of a ten-gallon hat.
History/Background:
Annie was the youngest foal born to the Oatley family; and immediately became somewhat of an oddball compared to her beauteous sisters. She has always had a boyish appearance, compared to her lovely sisters who were all married off or living slightly...scandalous lives in the big city long before she was born. Immediately she took closer to her father, working the farm and learning such things as working the lasso and bucking with the best of them. She was known in frontier school for getting into fights with the bigger colts, a fact that constantly shamed her mother, who absolutely abhored violence.
Annie instead found friendship more with the savages who passed through every year. In her time growing up she spent more time with buffaloes than other ponies, which might be why she is a little more bold and brassy than your regular young mare. She grew bulkier and bigger as she grew, and by the time she got her cutie mark (which some consider to be a hint at her talent for spit-shooting stalks of wheat like a veritable fleshy peashooter – another horrible habit, according to her mother) it was assumed that she would be a hellion from the get go.
It was thus a shock to everyone when she became one of the youngest fillies to apply to the sheriff's program – and not only that, but to find that she was an avid lawmare. She rose through the ranks until she was practically next in line to be a deputy of Appleoosa – only to turn and request transfer to the big city shortly before her 28th year.
Who knows what's going through her head – that's one thing with Annie. She always likes to surprise folks.
