-Personality Stuff-
Likes: Sweets, the scent of vanilla, fresh baked goods, confectioner's sugar, chamomile tea, the sound of fire places, and the way fine fabrics look. He loves to see a couple getting along, finding newfound love to be especially beautiful. His favorite season is Spring and - if given the opportunity - he would gladly spend his day working on an extravagant (though not over-the-top) cake.
Dislikes: Rainy weather, loud voices, arguments, the smell of burnt sugar, spicy meals, being put on a spotlight, being pressured to work, tight deadlines, and insensitive ponies. He hates having to create cakes which have a very strict design or having to work for ponies which are just as strict. Despite his expertise on his area, he lacks the firmness necessary to stand by what he believes is best for his creations.
Motivation: He finds his greatest inspiration is the love which one pony expresses to another. This isn't limited to romantic couples either; the love a mother has for their children, the love between good friends, the love within a community, or the love someone may have towards a specific cause are equally inspiring to him. He hopes to create a variety of cakes to celebrate and mirror the love he sees in the world, so that others may enjoy this sentiment even further.
Strengths: Sugar is an exceptionally kind pony. Quite friendly and polite, it isn't uncommon to find him complimenting others or offering a hoof to help. He is surprisingly observent and - having a good sense for what others are feeling - knows well when to offer advice or even just a friend to listen.
Mostly though, he is a pony of work. Passionate and dedicated towards his projects, Sugar can focus on one commission for hours on end, perfecting each cake and adding the most wondrous details where he sees they will be fit. There are few ponies that demonstrate a similar level of dedication which he practices, however his amount of work doesn't make him picky regarding his customers. There are occassions where he will offer to bake a cake for an event or celebration, free of charge. His generosity is honest, though some might think he just would really like to keep baking day in and out.
Weaknesses/Flaws: Alas, friendliness does not a pony make. Despite his sweet nature, Sugar is remarkably awkward in his interactions. He lacks the firmness with which to say "no" or to stand for his own opinion and will often be distracted should something catch his attention. Out of the kitchen, his clumsiness shows, the little cook even going so far as to take small steps in order to prevent himself from tripping. Being somewhat small for a stallion his age and unexceptional with his unicorn magic, Sugar Lace hardly stands out in a crowd.
Even in his work he demonstrates issues. What Sugar has in talent, he lacks in organization. With no skills to run a business on his own, the young pony often forgets to balance his time between his projects, working a cake into completion before realizing he should be making progress on his other commissions. His eye-for-detail has often been a curse too; it isn't unusual for him to be so caught up in the details that he falls behind on his schedule. So focused he becomes that it's necessary to physically pull him away from his work before he realizes just how long he's spent in his kitchen altogether.
Fears: Living in communities which lack affection, the cold, cockroaches and ants, being unable to inspire the love which inspires him.
Overall Persona: Polite and sweet, Sugar Lace is especially gifted for baking. Though he is talented with most any form of baked good, he adores preparing tiered cakes the most. His creations have achieved a small amount of fame, their beauty being as exceptional as their taste! After all, what good is a cake fancifully decorated with icing flowers and lined with frosting lace when you'll fill him with nothing but heavy chocolate ganache? A cake's flavor should match the occasion as much as the appearance does.
Despite being an introvert, he finds himself often attracted to pony watching; if he's not spotted in his kitchen, he can be found in a plaza or park bench quietly admiring from a spot. His fondness for others doesn't translate to experience; he will often be awkward in his words or his manner when socializing, making him a pony of very few friends.
In many ways, he's surely a colt dedicated to his job. Running a small business from his own kitchen allows him the privacy and safety he yearns for in a work environment, though it feeds his obsessive attention for detail and makes it hard for him to keep a close eye on his deadlines and overall organization. At times he'll hardly notice how enveloped he is in his own work until interrupted from it entirely. Should you be the pony tasked with retrieving him from his workspace, it pays to be cautious of the floor; no matter how beautiful and phenomenal his cakes may be, his kitchen is almost always in a state of disarray until his project is officially done.
History/Background: Born to a loving family, Sugar had always admired the sweetness with which hid dear mother treated him and the affection she shared with his father. Always surrounded by a loving environment, he learned to cherish it dearly from day one. It always frustrated him that he could not show his appreciation for the care that surrounded him. He'd always been aware of how small he was for his age, his magical prowess no greater than the occasional telekinesis seen from most any unicorn.
It wasn't until Sugar had turned seven that his mother began to teach him how to bake. Despite his prowess, he still couldn't find that piece which was missing to quell his frustration. It was only at the age of thirteen - when he'd carefully baked a cake to celebrate the Fifteenth anniversary of his parents' wedding - that he understood his yearning. Seeing the smile of both his parents when he presented them their cake made him realize this was all he could wish for; a way to express love and share love in his baking. That event triggered the discovery of his cutie mark.
Since then, he moved out on his own and began a small home business. While the actual business aspect of his life is quite difficult to deal with, he's never felt so satisfied to bake cakes which celebrate and unite ponies from all over so they too may take a moment to enjoy the treasure which is loving another.
