Motivation:Blackout constantly looks for exciting and interesting puzzles to solve concerning magical creatures. Everything from convincing a pesky ghost to leave a pony's home, to fending off timber wolves makes him feel accomplished.
Strengths:Blackout is exceptionally fast earth pony, but lacks acrobatic ability. His quick wit and honed fighting techniques make him a formidable force to be reckoned with by monsters and spirits alike, but he only uses these abilities to try and bait them away or to defend those around him. His brother gave him a pair of hoof claws that he wears when physical confrontation is possible, and he practices with them often.
Weaknesses/Flaws: Blackout can be a little aggressive in complicated situations, clouding his judgement. His straightforward thought process can sometimes be viewed as stubbornness. If he sees a solution to a problem, sometimes he will react before giving others an opportunity to think things through, making him a poor team player and making him very susceptible to missing valuable observations. His largest weakness is his lack of stamina. He trains himself for quick and clean maneuvers, leaving much room for improvement in drawn out physical strain. If he had to fight or sprint for longer than a short duration, he would most likely fall limp on the ground afterwards for triple the time, and would be sore for days. He also has very little in the way of endurance. As quick as he is, one good hit could knock the wind out of him for quite a while, and injure him easily.
Fears: The monster expert can get a bit unstable when asked to deal with underwater creatures. He’s never been traumatized by them, but he doesn’t like the idea of being in water with something that is large enough to hurt him in an element he cannot traverse easily. It makes him feel vulnerable and defenseless.
Overall Persona:Blackout is fiercely loyal to his family. His older brother is an adopted bat pony, and if anyone makes a distinguishing remark about the lack of family similarities he can get defensive. He’s not much of a morning pony, and usually doesn’t start to get active till the afternoons or evenings. That’s worked out for him just fine, because most of the creatures he works with come out at night. Blackout is his own greatest critic. Whenever something goes wrong he is quick to blame himself, even if it isn’t necessarily his fault. He likes horseplay and enjoys a good competition, but will never try to push another pony around. He can be a tad awkward in social situations, and gets uncomfortable and quiet in large crowds. His focus levels can be extremely high. Adrenaline rushes from stressful situations can enhance his focus, sometimes to the point of giving him tunnel vision. When he gets down on himself, as he oftentimes does, he becomes distracted and can get lost in thought quicker than your average pony. When he sees other ponies getting boastful or rude, he is usually quick to aggression and will not tolerate bullying. The last thing anypony would ever want to do is accuse Blackout of being lazy. This is without a doubt the quickest way to get on his bad flank. He constantly strives to help others out with their tasks when work grows scarce, however if he gets tired he will take his sweet time to recover before rushing into the next task.
History/Background:Born in a small residential area in Tramplevania, Blackout was raised around gloomy environments and monsters from nightmares. Fortunately for him, he was born to a family of monster specialists that took to showing him how to defend his home. Not only that, but they showed him how some magical creatures aren’t as dangerous and violent as every pony would first think. Some of them are just as scared of ponies as ponies are of them. He got his cutie mark after assisting his family in removing a phantom from town. Once he came of age, his parents considered opening the family business in Ponyville. Rumor had it they had problems with timber wolves, dragons, carnivorous plants and a plethora more of creatures. They asked Blackout to travel to Ponyville and open a supernatural consultation where he could service the locals.
