Forgive me if I'm misusing the forum, or improperly formatting my question, I really have no idea, yet, what I'm doing.
Ok, so as I said in the subject, I'm new. Not just to the site, but really, to online forum based Role Playing in general. I've written a few stories and played RPGs involving OCs (not just premade ones). I've seen all the cannon episodes/movies/videos of MLP, so I know what's up. I'm sure after a little practice I'll be just fine. I'm just unclear on a few items, here. I'll put each of my questions into separate paragraphs for easier reading.
Firstly, On the pictures of an OC, it says I have to have drawn it, or if somepony else drew it, I must have proof of their permission to use it. Well, frankly, I suck at drawing. I'd ask an artist to do it for me, but I have no money . Even my sister couldn't do it for me, she's busy with requests from real, paying customers. I have an image I made with some online "make your own pony" flash thingy, and I was wondering if that would be acceptable.
Second, So, I had an idea of an OC, but something put a pause in it: "Please don't add an official character's name in your app..." I wasn't going to say anything like "Oh he's faster than RD!" or anything like that, just like "Iron was a fast pegasus, when he needs to get somewhere, but he knew his place. His skills and speed could never mach those of his lifelong hero, Rainbow Dash. Ever since her performance at the competition for 'Best Young Flier', he was awed by her speed and agility, especially at the 'Sonic Rainboom' and he aspired to be even half as good." Obviously taken from narrative to just filling out the form. So, basically, he's pretty fast (not like ungodly fast, just "wow. He can really fly."), and I wanted to include that RD happens to be his Idol. If it's unacceptable to include her name in there at all, that's fine, I'll just work around that, but I'd like to include it (In case you can't tell, Rainbow Dash is easily my favorite of all ponies) if I can. Is there any way I can? Side note, this would be the only comparison/mention of any official character.
"When roleplaying, please use at least 250 words..." Is this a strict rule (250 seems a bit steep), or just basically saying "Don't post something stupid and short like 'I come in the store and talk to the clerk.' (10 words) be more like 'As Iron saunters into Quills and Sofas, he notices a blue unicorn sitting in one of the display recliners, looking rather smug. He decides it's best he not speak to him, so he walks up to the counter. "Excuse me," he says, in his usual, tired sounding voice to the desk clerk, "I need some quills."(still only 56 words, about a fifth of necessary)'" I just realized, what can a response to that be? "The desk clerk looked at this peculiar pony, wondering if he might have just gotten out of bed, and said 'Why, sir, we have a fine collection of wonderful writing quills right here, what would you like? Perhaps this silver coated phoenix feather quill, I say it quite suits you!' He held up a very expensive looking quill. (59 words, that's what I could squeeze in there without being overly wordy)"
As an example, this whole paragraph wouldn't make that cut at just 203 words.
So, yeah, also, if you have any tips on being a better roleplayer (based on the two examples in my third question), I'd appreciate them !
