Gender: Male
Age: Early 20s
Additional Status: Sometimes seen wearing a plush hooded sweatshirt.
-Physical Stuff-
Pelt Color: Gold, with black tips on his feathers.
Mane/Tail Color and Style: Tock's 'mane', so to speak, is a single feather that sticks up atop his head like a quail's, the rest of his head just a cushioned, sprouting mass of soft gold feathers.
Eye Color: India Green
Cutie Mark: A pillow with a white case, and green and black striped inside.
Other Scars/Markings: A slightly heart-shaped splash of white covering his entire face, with tufts around his eyes and beak similar to those of an owl. In addition he has the traditional owl 'eyebrows/ears'.
Physique: Tock is quite short for his age, and exceedingly plump. However it's difficult to tell exactly how plump he really is, as his fluffy feathers make him look even rounder than he actually is. As he's a Hippogriff, he has a griffon's front half and a pony's back half.

-Personality Stuff-
Likes: Marshmallows, hot chocolate, marshmallows in hot chocolate, hot chocolate flavored marshmallows, sauteed mushrooms, crab rangoon, body pillows, neck pillows, throw pillows, down comforters, afghans, recliners, creatures that hibernate, spots in the shade, and the sounds of a gently babbling brook. He's also very fond of seeing disputes settled peacefully, and everyone relaxing. Specifically, the more stressed a creature seems to be, the happier he is to see them unwind. Tock also loves visiting new places (often much to his surprise). In addition to all of this, Tock's biggest passion aside from sleep is poetry. He often speaks in small snatches of verse whenever he can fit a little in.
Dislikes: Overly loud noises, thumping bass, humid weather, bad dreams, strong coffee (although he makes special exception for anything his brother makes), apples, circular arguments, endless bickering, and monotonous music. He also dislikes seeing anyone getting overwrought over any problem they may face. Tock also gets mildly irritated when anyone says anything against interspecies relationships.
Motivation: It's surprising to consider that a creature that sleeps as much as Tock does could feel any sort of motivation, but the sleepy hippogriff will always maintain that it's his ultimate mission to wrest all of Equestria from the grip of ruinous anxiety. So much worry and stress, so many ponies rushing through life without stopping to smell (and sleep in) the flowers. If it were in his power he'd make the day an hour longer just so everyone could have a little more time to relax and do things at a casual pace. Though he revels in the restful, he is drawn to the stressful, seeking out those situations which would be best assisted by his own particular brand of relaxing therapy. Beyond his own life philosophy of rest and relaxation, Tock is also motivated by an almost overwhelming sense of empathy, treating the problems and struggles of others as though they were his own (albeit in his case he feels he knows the solutions much better than most... a good night's sleep).
Strengths: His most noticeable strength is his fiercely mellow attitude, what some might called 'highly tranquilized' and 'mostly comatose'. In general, his reaction to most situations is a relaxed attitude. He also tends to have a calming effect on those around him, his manner of speaking, his warm presence, his habit of curling up against others, he's a walking, talking sedative. He also has a habit of talking in his sleep and sleepwalking, useful habits because without these he'd hardly ever get anything done. He's also fairly nonjudgemental, reasoning that even the worst of the worst would be better people if they were more relaxed.
Weaknesses/Flaws: Tock is slothful in the extreme, and very undependable. While he tries his best, he thinks nothing of slipping off to sleep in the middle of these attempts. He's not the sort of creature you'd want to watch your children, pass along an urgent message, or even make a hard-boiled egg for you. He also has a limited scope of success, rarely understanding that even when relaxed, ponies still have problems. If things don't go his way, he tends to escape his problems by sleeping. He also tends to indulge in nonsensical logic sometimes, a side effect of his drifting in and out of deep sleeps. In addition to all of this, he's also in terrible physical shape, a side effect of his lethargic lifestyle. Flights of stairs are generally too much for him, and it's only with supreme effort that he could make it to a cloud for a nap (of course this effort's expended only because clouds are so amazingly comfortable).
Fears: Pillow Tock has a supreme fear of tiny swarms of creatures. Ants, spiders, parasprites, flies, motes, on their own he's just mildly uncomfortable but in a swarm he's absolutely terrified. This stems from an incident with falling onto an anthill when he was a foal. He also has a vague fear that he's just in someone else's dream and that when whoever that is wakes up, he and everything he knows will cease to be. However this is something he only thinks about at the worst of times, not on a day-to-day basis. He also worries about the health of his brother Tick regularly, as he feels he's entirely too wound up.
Overall Persona: With a complete disregard for personal space and an urge to impart his own mellow wisdom on all those he encounters, Pillow Tock could almost be thought of as a wandering, snuggling philosopher. He cares deeply for the well-being of those around him, making him a rather nosy hippogriff. He's also a free spirit, letting the winds of fate (and often gravity and sloping hills) take him where they may. Pillow tries to make the best of whatever situation he might find himself in, and failing to make the best of it he tries to make himself comfortable. He has a bad habit of not always realizing he's inconveniencing others when he's obtaining these comforts (sleeping on a stairway, resting himself against someone, taking someone else's bed, etc.) With a plush expression and a relaxed attitude he'll often barely open one eye and murmur some honeyed rhyming couplet to try to prove his point (often failing to do so but just being pleased with himself for having made a recitation). He does try to make some advanced effort for those he cares about, his own family for example, often going on long (and slow) journeys to do what needs to be done, keeping up his efforts regardless of how often his own habitual power napping sets him back. It should also be noted that given he's a hippogriff, Pillow never bats an eye at interspecies romance of any nature, and will generally defend it if someone should speak out against it.
Tock also has overwhelming empathy, where simply telling him a story of a pony in plight is often enough to rouse him (temporarily) to action in aiding them overcome whatever might be worrying them. Of course for Tock, he generally assumes a well rested mind overcomes all obstacles and that's all anyone needs to succeed. But when he encounters those in need or in some dire straits he tries his best to take on their burden himself, in an attempt to show them how best to deal with it. Sometimes his bottomlessly calm, mellow attitude genuinely does see a solution through a problem, but often times frustrated ponies are left with a sympathetic, sleeping hippogriff.
History/Background: Born as one of a pair of nonidentical twins, Pillow's parents were fairly paranoid about both of their children. One seemed to never sleep, the other seemed to never wake up, but according to the best doctors they could afford (both pony and griffon doctors, they weren't taking any chances), both children were perfectly healthy and happy. It seemed that when together, Tick was more relaxed and Tock was more alert, and throughout school the two were usually inseparable. The two brothers always seemed to be in a constant state of worry about one another, Tick worrying that Tock was sleeping and relaxing far more than could possibly be helpful for an efficient, productive member of society, and Tock worrying that Tick was burning himself out and working at far too fast a pace to ever get any enjoyment out of life. Their early life together was full of bartering agreements between one another, Tick agreeing to loosen up if Tock would agree to buckle down, and vice versa. In this way the two brothers managed a fairly normal childhood, and from constantly leaning on one another's virtues and vices they each received an overdeveloped sense of empathy.
It was during school that Tock buried himself in studies of sleep and classic poetry (he was first drawn to poetry classes because the other students complained it was impossible to stay awake in said classes). Much to his surprise (and mild annoyance) he found that poetry was one of the few things that didn't bring about a sleeping bout with him, and with some curiosity he dove into it more than most things. It was widely agreed that at his poetry readings there'd never be a dry eye in the house as they were generally all closed.
He was a favored student in the Sleep Studies classes, where the professor would often use him a guinea pig due to his prowess as the sort of creature who could fall asleep standing up. Or laying down. Or flying. The professor in charge of the class tested out a hypothesis on Tock, that the memory was generally improved when one slept after hearing some new piece of information, as well as information recited into the ear of a sleeping individual. Aware of this himself (after the professor was nice enough to explain why he seemed to be getting lectured in his dreams), Tock buried himself into his studies even more, amazed at the idea of how much one could do while asleep. He concentrated at such a level that even his brother Tick was amazed. However, this proved somewhat problematic. As the two brothers would often balance one another out, Tock's increased concentration and effort caused Tick to redouble his own efforts (culinary studies and time management classes), which soon led the scrawnier of the two hippogriffs to have a major burnout, combined with extreme fatigue that threw him for a loop.
A horrified Pillow Tock maintained vigil at his brother's side, using everything he'd learned about relaxation techniques, calming a stressed mind, and proper nutrition (hey it can't all be napping, eating's important too!) With the help of his parents, as well as his professor, Tick was brought back around and able to fix himself to a manageable schedule for his own life, promising his family to never overdo things as badly as he had. Having rescued his brother from the very clutches of life-strangling stress, Tock promptly celebrated by passing out for three days straight.
Upon awaking, he discovered a pillow shaped mark on his flank, and an official declaration from his professor, certifying his skill as a sleep therapist, having observed the hippogriff's skills on his own brother. A notation left by the professor claimed the material was so ingrained in Pillow Tock that he could pass the class in his sleep, which is precisely what wound up happening.
After graduating, with his head held as just about chest-level (holding one's head up high is tiring), he told his family of his plans to venture across Equestria, doing for others what he'd done for his brother, rescuing those who were so caught up in the harried pace of their own lives that they were working themselves to death. With a fond farewell, Tock flew/plummeted from Cloudsdale into the world at large, determined to see every creature great and small embraced by the sweet soothing salve of sleep.
...It should be noted, though, that once a month Pillow makes his way home to visit his famed barrista brother Tick, so that Tick can be sure of a proper night sleep, and Tock can be sure of a day spent alert and aware.
