Overall Persona:
Starrie is most productive in the night, using the moon and the stars, the dance above her head, as a spring board for her mind and art. She is naturally a caring pony, always willing to lend a hoof to those who need it, and believes that having a place to center yourself, get away from the day, even for a little bit, is a very important thing. She has found that since moving to Canterlot from Manehattan, a quiet space to think and be is the most treasured. Being raised by two teachers, Starrie deeply believes in teaching, and being patient. She finds it hard to turn down a pony in need, and loves to help out at the local school.
In her personal life, Starrie is quite serene and laid-back. She much rather watch everyone else be happy than be the star of the show, sometimes blending into the background. Her personality, engaging way of speaking, and natural ease with other ponies shines in small groups, where she often loves to take charge, coming off boisterous at times.
She believes that every pony deserves the chance at showing their true selves before being judged by others. However, once somepony crosses her, and her opinion is set, it’s hard for a pony to correct that perceived wrong. Indeed, even those she views ‘good’ or ‘nice’ can find themselves unforgivably thought of if they do something to merit this extreme response.
She defines her morals and life into two golden rules: treat others as you would treat yourself, and ‘a sanctuary is a place of peace, of acceptance and love, and the keeper shall exude such qualities, keeping all who enter safe, enforcing the rules when she must.'
History/Background:
Starrie grew up in Manehattan with her parents, an artist and a musician. As a young filly, she was exposed to many things -symphony concerts and up-scale art galleries, corner jazz groups to balloon painting (a very fun activity she does to this day to release stress). She knew that art was for her, though never in what capacity.
Teaching would not be her destiny; the foals in her class could be mean and insufferable, and the parents seemingly blind. Performing in front of others as her father does? No thank you! While being among a crowd on stage is okay, and fun at times, being the center of attention in front of so many was not her cup of tea.
However, a nice pony owned a cozy shop near her school, and one day, Starrie walked in to meet the sweet older lady who owned the shop. From that day on, she knew what she wanted to do: she wanted to paint. Watercolors were her favorite medium, and, one day after completing her first painting, Starrie looked down and found she had her cutie mark!
From then on, she learned as much of art as she could, always reading and looking, watching and observing. She enrolled in an art school as a teenaged pony, and worked part time at a local coffee shop to help pay for her supplies. As she worked, Starrie realized something: no matter how the ponies came in, harried, upset, angry, stressed, the patrons appeared to calm down, relax, and even enjoy themselves. Sometimes they lost themselves in a book, or a conversation with a stranger, and she knew then what she wanted to do.
Once done with school, Starrie left her parents in Manehattan, and went to Canterlot, setting in the woodsier area right outside the city. At first, she did commissions and worked at another coffee and tea shop, saving up a few bits before she unveiled her own shop, “Of Coffee and Art.” There, she tries to bring local jewelry, artisan crafts, and arts of all types to showcase and sell to others.
[her shop looks like this. Just wanted to put it here — Created as a sanctuary in a bustling city, the outside arch leading into the courtyard is lined with ivy, a couple wind chimes swirling and singing to the wind along the top. Trees and more ivy intertwine overhead, muffling the sounds, patio tables on either side of the main walk. Inside is just as cosy, small plants and flowers sit in the windowsills while antique tables and chairs of all shapes and sizes provide intimate sitting areas for all who enter. China cabinets display arts and crafts, jewelry and fashions for sale as the din of the coffee shop creates a comfortable, soothing hum in the background. —]
Now settled in Canterlot, Starrie is looking forward to what her life is going to be like now...
