If there wasn't an anti-toxin her friend would have become very ill and have to go to hospital. Scarlet is afraid that she was poison one of her customers or friends.
To prevent this she purchased many toxin guides and runs every chemical through a toxicology test before introducing it into her tonic production.
She has a fear of bugs and insects, they really gross her out. One time when on holiday to the countryside a large spider had crawled into her dress, she didn't realise until she was wearing the dress and it was crawling up her neck. From that day she has had chronic arachnophobia.

She put this talent down to her fathers scientific prowess. It had rubbed off on her. In other subjects she performed well but at no where near the level of her science grades. At school she was fairly popular, she wanted to be nice to everyone but discovered she would be better off for her social status if she started ignoring the losers.

After finding that her passion was chemistry, although she didn't immediately spawn a cutie mark. She told her parents andthey were thrilled.
Her interest in beauty hadn't diminished and she wondered if she could combine her love of fashion with her passion of chemistry.
Several hours later and the careers counsellor that she sought advice from suggested that Scarlet study and get a degree in chemical engineering,
then she would be able to produce all sorts of creams and lotions for the beauty industry. Thrilled with the counsellor suggestion she bounded to her science teachers office and kindly asked if he could show her how to make a simple face cream. Happy with his students eagerness he obliged and showed her how to create the cream.
Over the next free weeks, Scarlet purchased the ingredients from the local supermarket and began to produce it in her room. She sold several bottles to her grandma and other female family members. Thus her cutie mark was uncovered.
At college she studied Chemical engineering and business.
For her final project she developed a consumable liquid that she sold in small vials. When drunk, after 24 hours, anti-ageing effects could be seen, making the face appear younger. Scarlet left college and attempted to start her own business selling her tonic in Manhattan. She quickly found that the competition was tough and that fancy, rich ponies weren't likely to buy vials of strangely coloured liquid from a pony lurking in an alley in the middle of the crowded city.
Her destination was set to Ponyville as a small town with a ordinary market place would prove to be an excellent place to begin her new business.
