-Personality Stuff-
Likes:
Graffiti can be pretty fickle with her likes, but her two biggest passions are art and music. She is rarely seen in public without a pair of headphones handy. She throws herself into her art, and is always thinking of her next piece. She enjoys trips to the marketplace to buy new supplies. She is very fond of junk food, especially sweets. She tends to miss the more “urban” dishes of Manehattan at times. While she puts on a general air of annoyance at the spontaneous song and dance she sees in Ponyville, she secretly loves every minute of it. (Just don’t expect to see her, you know, PARTICIPATE.)
Dislikes:
Graffiti is a big believer in personal liberty. She despises anyone that would trample on a Pony’s rights or interests. She doesn’t tolerate bullies. She doesn’t hold a lot of value in things like physical beauty, so ponies that value fashion and style are ponies she avoids when possible. She’s a pony of few words, and she finds social situations and large gatherings very difficult to manage. She tends to be very focused on what she’s doing, and hates to be interrupted.
Motivation:
Graffiti is passionate about creating art. It’s her drive in life. As a filly, she wasn’t skilled at music like her mother, or at building like her father, so she had a hard time finding where she fit in. She discovered her talent for graffiti when running with some bad kids back home, and she never looked back. She wakes up every morning grateful for her talent, and thinks to herself “How can I make the world around me a little brighter today?” She developed her talent for graffiti art into talent with various mediums, especially paint and canvas, and seeks to constantly use her talents for the enjoyment of others around her. She feels her job is never done, and there’s always a new technique to learn.
Strengths:
Graffiti is a very creative soul, both in her work and outside. She is a good problem solver, often thinking outside the box to solve many problems. She doesn’t make friends easily, but anyone who gets to know her will find a kind and loyal friend. She’s very strong and brave, and is more than willing to stand up to anyone who threatens her or her friends.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
Graffiti can come off very unsociable, gruff, and judgmental. She tends to keep to herself when in public, and usually responds to greetings or questions with curt one-word responses. She mutters under her breath when she sees things that bother her. Despite being an artist, she has trouble not judging a book by its cover, so to speak. A bad first impression of others tends to stick with her.
Fears:
Graffiti is terrified of feeling inadequate. Her parents are fairly well-known back home, and she felt like a late bloomer when it came to finding her talent. She feels that if she isn’t constantly in motion, trying new techniques and working, that her talent will go away and she’ll be left without anything that truly makes her special. She seems judgmental of others, but it’s often a defense mechanism. She’s very worried about how others view her, and tries not to stand out in a crowd. She’s afraid of putting her hoof in her mouth and saying something to make other ponies dislike her.
Overall Persona:
Graffiti is essentially a warm and loving pony at heart. She loves being around people who understand her, but she makes herself unavailable out of fear of getting hurt or disappointed. She tends to come off very hard to approach to other ponies, and doesn’t usually realize why that is. When she opens up to people, she has a great (often crass) sense of humor, and can talk your ear off. She’s very passionate about her interests, and loves to share it with others, either through conversation with friends, or strangers with art.
History/Background:
By all accounts, Graffiti’s childhood was pretty idyllic. Her mother was a famous musician, and her father was a talented and wealthy architect. They were both known for their creativity and talent. This made growing up difficult for Graffiti, because she never really developed a talent. But they still doted on her and loved her immensely.
Other fillies around her would get their cutie marks for all sorts of things. Music, dance, singing, sports, etc. Graffiti was somewhat clumsy, and while smart, was pretty directionless. Her parents tried to push her into their fields, but it wasn’t for her. As she got a little older, she started running with other fillies that were a lot like her. No cutie marks, no direction. They became a close-knit group of friends, but they were generally regarded as miscreants by the locals. They stole things, they bullied people, and were just generally jerks.
The group got ahold of some spray paint, and decided to tag one of Graffiti’s father’s buildings. She was more than happy to do so, being that it fueled her rebellious streak. What she created on that building wasn’t a tag, but a beautiful piece of artwork, her magical control over her tools showing a talent that defied her age or lack of experience. She lost herself in the act, and when she was done, her talent (and cutie mark) came to light.
This didn’t sit well with her friends. They rejected her, and pushed her out of the group. She went through most of school often dealing with her former friends and their bullying. They didn’t find her an easy mark. And she looked out for other fillies they bullied, feeling awful that she was once part of it.
In her off time, she practiced her craft. She snuck out at night, and painted the town red, literally. The authorities considered her a vandal, but most ponies thought her work was beautiful. She painted wonderful, uplifting murals throughout town, each one seeming to tell a story.
Eventually, she finished school, and worked even harder to perfect her craft. She made a few bits here and there with her work, but she felt she could expand and try new things. This led to a change of scenery to Ponyville, a place that she heard was “anything but ordinary.”
She moved into town, and set herself up as an artist for hire. Mural work, signs, banners for celebrations, she’s done it all, and loves seeing her mark around town, not as a vandal, but as an artist.
