Silversky resolutely climbed up the tree. It had beautiful green leaves all over it. The branch she chose to sit on was thick but comfortable, with lots of gently swishing foliage. She felt the wind in her mane and tail, blowing them back like streamers. The filly opened her wings and stretched. That morning she had decided that a pegasus that hated flying wasn't really a pegasus at all. Silversky decided that she wanted to be a pegasus. She was going to fly. So she had climbed up a tall tree in the park, figuring that jumping out of it was a good way to start. But now that she was up the tree, swaying gently in the breeze, it seemed like a very bad idea. She looked at her wings. It had been awhile since she'd used them. What if they don't work anymore? She thought. What if I lost a feather and didn't notice? No! Stop that! Your wings still work, silly! Now, jump!!!! Silversky didn't jump. She just clung tighter to her branch. Whimpering, she thought, I can't do it! It's too scary! No, no, no, no, no! You can do it and you will do it. Come on, it'll be fun. You'll love it! Bracing herself, Silversky spread her wings wide, and jumped off.
For a little bit, her wings caught her and she was gliding along. Hey, this was kinda fun. Maybe she did love it. But then the wind gave out. She dropped suddenly. Her wings snapped in. Terrified, she plummeted down. It wasn't fun! And she definitely didn't love it! The wind whistled in her ears as she fell. The ground and the ponies on it were growing. Silversky was too scared to even scream. Her mane and tail streamed above her. The ground was growing ominously large. How far had she fallen? How much was it going to hurt when she stopped falling? Silversky didn't want to think about it. The ground was almost close enough to touch and... Silversky stopped falling.
Now, it would have hurt a lot more it she hadn't landed directly on top of some poor pony on the ground! Silversky was quick to scramble off.
"I'm very sorry! I didn't mean to land on you! I hope I didn't hurt you! I'm really sorry!"
