And he's not made of wood anymore! This is an update from a previously attempted submission. As for the attached image, just kinda imagine he looks SIMILAR, but not exactly. I don't know when/if I can get my friend to do an updated image of him.
-General Stuff-
Name: Mandolin Gray
Nickname/Alias(es): Gray, The Sawhorse, Mandy
Race: Earth Pony
Gender: Male
Age: Stallion
Additional Status: NA
-Physical Stuff-
Pelt Color: Brown/Tan Woodgrain Pattern
Mane/Tail Color and Style: Bright green, slightly resembling leaves
Eye Color: Emerald Green
Cutie Mark: A hyper-stylized collection of lines in the shape of mandolin, or possibly a lollipop. Gray himself is at a loss to describe it.
Other Scars/Markings: Gray's pelt's pattern gives the impression he's made of wood, despite not being so.
Physique: He's a rather lanky pony, having large hooves and a fairly narrow torso and legs.
-Social Stuff-
Current Residence: Puppet Theater in Central Ponyville
Job: Farmer, specializing in mushrooms and nightshades (eggplants, potatoes, etc.), although he's currently searching for a different job.
Mother: Nyx (adopted)
Father: Clover Field (adopted)
Sibling(s): Mannequin Grace (adopted)
Other Family: NA
Closest Friends: Mannequin Grace, Dusty Pan, Waxworks, Powderkeg, Rivet Stitch
Courting/Courted By: NSF
Mate: NSF
Foal(s): NSF
-Personality Stuff-
Likes: Puppets, Crawlspaces, Sawdust, Pomegranates, Scary Stories, and shows/stories/events similar to Sentai Rangers.
Dislikes: Silverfish, Timberwolves, anypony who messes with his sister, and overly emotional ponies (with the exception of Rivet Stitch).
Motivation: Aside from the day to day motivations of going to work, his driving motivation is a hyper-wrought sense of justice that came from an incident when he was a colt. He's become very strongly opinionated about it as well, judging that justice is something that is owed to both the good and the bad.
Strengths: Mandolin Gray is surprisingly sneaky when he wants to be, sometimes allowing him to achieve his goals through what some call surreptitious means. He's also fairly selfless, and due to his 'noble justice' mentality, he likes to think he could throw himself in front of someone in danger, although he's never had situation to do so.
Weaknesses/Flaws: Gray tends to think he's a lot tougher than he actually is, leading him to getting himself overwrought a lot, either from offering his services to too many ponies at once, or offering to do things when he really should be home resting. He also is a loudmouth, and while pipe up to come to somepony's defense even if the wiser course of action is to stay quiet.
Fears: Gray is terrified of silverfish, and he's recently developed a nagging fear of his actions endangering others. He also has a debilitating fear of wasting his life by following the wrong vocation.
Overall Persona: Gray is a cheery loudmouth, and is often quick to decry anything he views as being unjust. However his manner of pointing these things out is typically through humorous sarcasm and witty rants. While his history gives him a large dose of getting by through not-entirely upstanding means, the rest of his life being much better has helped even him out, making him grateful for everything he has. He's quick to catch onto scams and schemes, making him rather cynical despite his cheerful nature. Gray is also drawn towards parties and celebrations, and has been known to appear in the backgrounds of photographs taken at fancy gatherings he wasn't invited to.
History: Mandolin Gray started off his life as an unnamed, unfed urchin on the streets of Midnightville. He happened upon a young Mannequin Grace who was working with her puppets in the yard. Striking upon a plan to get some food and a little mischief, he pretended to be a puppet as well, his natural pelt coloration helping with the illusion. Grace, being subject to hallucination, thought Gray was just another imaginary friend, as did her parents who never caught sight of him originally. Thinking he had it made, Gray helped himself to food and caused mischief, letting Grace take the blame.
However, Grace began to suspect that he was a real pony and not just a hallucination, and when things had boiled to a head with a number of enraged ponies looking to punish her for one of his pranks, she managed to snap a photograph of him. Terrified that he'd been found out, he snuck away in an attempt to find a new town wherein he could start a new life, only to be confronted by Grace on the outskirts. She promptly gave him the photo, marched herself back into town, and admitted guilt to everything he had done.
Stunned by this act of sacrifice, he found himself confusedly walking into town, and presenting himself to those gathered. Grace, glad that he'd not simply run off, threw her forelegs around him and refused to let him go for quite some time. After a bit of formal discussion by the adults and some paperwork being filled out, he was adopted by Grace's family, and given the name Madolin Gray that his sister suggested.
This event was highly responsible for Gray's current outlook on life, that everyone deserves a fair chance even when they don't seem like they do. It also rather galvanized him in reference to his adopted sister Grace, becoming very protective of her, to the point it sometimes annoys her. He's certain that everypony deserves a fair shake in life, even if sometimes you have to be a little unscrupulous to do it.
(Until I get the artist to redo the image of him this will have to do for now... he does look mostly like this now except without the 'joints' on his limbs)
