-Social Stuff-
Current Residence: A small apartment in Manehattan. Though he's on the road more and is used to staying at either other ponies' places or at a hotel.
Job: Pony of Rock, though not as famous as his idol Sapphire just yet. Getting there though.
Older Brother: Baritone Shores, THE Jazz pony.
Mate: Nopony. Yet
-Personality Stuff-
Likes: His own music and pretty much any kind of music. But especially Sapphire Shores whom he idolizes above all else. Ruby also truly enjoys standing on the stage of anywhere. Except in small bars, too small for his tastes. He enjoys meeting other musicians as well, of any kind really. Trading ideas and maybe even collaborating when and if possible.
Dislikes: Anypony who criticizes Sapphire shores or his own works of art. For some reason he also dislikes pie, no idea why. Having an art block is horrible as well, since this is the worst thing that could possibly happen to his career. Destroying a concert would be another, or failing to complete one due to sickness.
Motivation: All Ruby ever wants to do is be like Sapphire shores. And since his childhood, Ruby has been working towards that. Since he did his first show, Ruby has become quite popular among filly's and certain stallions around Equestria. He continues to work even now that he's left Sapphire tutelage. He's come a LONG way since then. But the most important thing that he wants has yet to come to him. To make peace with the musical style Jazz and with his brother Baritone. He wants Baritone to see what he's done, and to say the words he wants to hear so badly. 'I'm proud of you and what you've accomplished'
Strengths: His amazing singing voice and loyalty to his friends. His dancing abilities are another strength of his, as is his heart. Both in the physical and psychological way. His heart is pure, to say the least. He will never lie to anypony. NEVER! He is disgusted by lies of any kind.
Weaknesses/Flaws: A little bit of a perfectionist. He shall never say that a show was good, let alone perfect. Yet, he can be quite arrogant from time to time. Sometimes it's enough to be enticing. Sometimes it's just plain annoying. And though he will never lie to anypony, this is also a flaw. He won't lie, which means he won't hesitate to say if somepony looks or sounds horrid. He lacks tact.
Fears: Losing his friends' trust or having them hate him mostly. Destroying a concert or somehow making an entire audience silent. This has never happened, but Ruby does all he can to keep that from happening.
Overall Persona: Ruby is a kind pony, but a little over the top enthusiastic sometimes. He can be serious when need be, but it's rare when he needs to be serious anyway. He can be quite annoying with his arrogance though, but that too is rare since he hates to upset other ponies. Not only that, he's plainly disgusted by the idea of upsetting others. He will sit down and talk if somepony seems to need help, but will try to promote himself at the same time. Helpful, but boastful. And with his talent, who wouldn't be?
A little history:
It was at Sapphire Shores' concert in Fillydelphia. The big Equestria-wide tour called 'Sapphire Shores in Filly Folly'. Ruby had won a competition before the show had started, being the 500th pony that came to see her. He won a single VIP ticket along with a few others, meaning that he could watch the show from all the way up front and even meet Sapphire herself after the show!
The show itself had only just begun, but Ruby was going mad to the music! He was only a youngster, still a foal, but found himself dancing with all the mares around him. And quite expertly too! He enjoyed every living moment, the dialogue in his mind breaking down to nothing but a dull whisper. The only thing on his mind the anticipation of the next beat.
The show was over, even though the crowd was screaming for an encore. Ruby had found himself (and the mares too) escorted to Sapphire Shores' private lounge behind the stage. The cheering of the crowd was loud, but not as loud as the squeals of the mares as soon as they saw Sapphire. Ruby clenched his ears tightly against his head so as to keep the high-pitched noise out of his ears. That was so loud it hurt! The mares went completely mad, shouting and taking pictures and wanting autographs. Ruby couldn't help but admire Sapphire's stature right then, so calm! The mares slowly drooped off, going off to do their own thing. Ruby wanted an autograph as well, but there was one other thing that he wanted more than anything else in the world right now.
Sapphire saw the young grey foal and smiled at him, making Ruby melt from both admiration and nervousness. She stepped up to him, offering an autograph to the nervous colt. But Ruby didn't take it, instead he stared at the stage. He wanted to ask her if he could dance with her on stage. The dancing in front of stage was fun, but how much fun would it be on stage right?! But he couldn't ask could he? That would be so forward, not to mention unacceptable for a fan to ask of his idol. Just weird. But just as Ruby was about to accept the autograph and be on his way, Sapphire was going back towards the stage to give that encore. Ruby was devastated, not seeing the autograph in front of him either.
And yet, something wasn't right. Sapphire was... Waiting? Ruby looked up to meet the pop pony's eye, only to find them beckoning him toward her. Ruby stepped up to the mare, a confused but excited look on his face. The next moment, they were standing on stage and giving a final encore to the entire room full with at least a thousand ponies. Ruby had no idea when it happened, but he was dancing with Sapphire Shores herself! He closed his eyes, bounced and shuffled and pranced and danced to the beat. He even found himself singing along in the chorus. And the verses as well.
But wait, where was Sapphire? The song was over, the crowd was cheering. Ruby felt an exhilaration that he had never felt before. But, something was wrong. He looked to his right, to the end of the stage. But, Sapphire should have blocked his view of that place. So, where was she? Turning his gaze to the left, Ruby saw her standing still with a smile on her face. She was standing at the entrance of the VIP room, just where she had been when she pushed Ruby on stage. She hadn't danced a beat, hadn't sung a note. That cheering wasn't for Sapphire. It was for Ruby!
Sensational. The only way to explain it. Absolutely sensational! He felt a tingle on his flank, felt himself giving a little quarter beat with his front hooves and looked at his flank to see something that he didn't know he would ever have. His cutie mark! A distorted eighth note, how cool was that?! The drummer picked up on his beat and added a second line. The bass came next, lead and harmonics after that. The whole song was played once more, with Ruby up front and Sapphire on the side, admiring her little fan.
When they were sitting back in the lounge, Ruby found himself being asked if he wanted to study music under Sapphire. He didn't know WHAT to say really. It was an amazing opportunity! This mare could help Ruby reach the top. Maybe even redefine the very definition of the top!
If only Baritone had been there.
