Melody Blues
[/i][/color]-General Stuff-
Name:
Melody Blues
Nickname/Alias(es):
Mel, Melly, Cobalt…
Race:
Unicorn
Gender:
Female
Age:
Mare
Additional Status:
Melody is a rising star, a singer with perfect pitch and a practically otherworldly and awe-inspiring stage presence, but what is keeping her away from being known all across Equestria is her fear of fame and attention when not performing on stage. She has a Siamese cat named Sonya, which is one of the few things she has no trouble talking to.
-Physical Stuff-
Pelt Color:
White
Mane/Tail Color and Style:
Her mane is medium-long with a lengthy side-swept which is useful for hiding half of her face around other ponies. The tail is also medium-long with a few layers and a slight curve at the end. Her hair is primarily cobalt in color, with a lighter blue highlight.
Eye Color:
Blue
Cutie Mark:
Her flank shows a pink heart with a microphone in the center.
Other Scars/Markings:
Her muzzle and hooves are a light grey in color.
Physique:
This unicorn is a few notches taller than the average pony and slender.
-Social Stuff-
Current Residence:
While she was born in Manehattan, this unicorn never felt comfortable with how critical everypony was there. Once she became a Mare, she built a home using her magic in the Everfree Forest. While it can be frightening in said forest, it keeps other ponies away and leaves her isolated and away from the paparazzi, fans, and pretty much most ponies in general. Melody has never told anypony where she lives, the exception being her parents and family members.
Job:
The Mare performs gigs across Equestria, ranging from low-key restaurants and small parties to upscale and important events, although she does not get very many of the latter (yet) and when she does, Melody goes by “Cobalt” and leaves as soon as her performances are over, practically disappearing. She also makes herself up elegantly or spunky and acts completely different (having an incredible and drawing stage presence) so ponies have rarely if ever realized they are the same pony.
Mother:
Royale, an infamous fashion designer Pegasus.
Father:
Dr. Cranium, a genius professor Unicorn who frequently travels and gives lectures.
Sibling(s):
None
Other Family:
She has a cousin named Amore, who known for being a match maker for many ponies. This Pegasus is frequently trying to pair her up with Stallions, which makes Melody more than uncomfortable. She always dreads when Amore visits her home, which is more frequent than not. Amore also tries to constantly get Melody to go out and party and meet other ponies. Sometimes if the unicorn hears her cousin is going to visit her or sees her heading towards her home soon enough, Melody will either hide or gallop off. While she knows her cousin means well, the Unicorn finds her constant prodding and attention and love bothersome and kind of scary.
Closest Friends:
None
Courting/Courted By:
None (other than the random Stallions Amore tries to set her up with)
Mate:
None
Foal(s):
None
-Personality Stuff-
Likes:
Singing, reading (nearly any book will do), silent walks in Everfree by herself or with her cat, swimming in lakes and ponds, napping around water, practicing her magic, being alone, performing, drawing, creating outfits for her gigs (she is intelligent and always has the clothing cover her cutie mark on the flank, but eventually she will accidently slip up, possibly giving a paparazzi member, fan, or random pony the clue to figuring out her true identity…), learning new music, sweets, spicy food, successfully being able to avoid her cousin, hanging out with Sonya.
Dislikes:
Large crowds, paparazzi, too much attention, being asked a lot of questions, unable to escape Amore and her match-making, blind dates and dates in general, being forced into social gatherings.
Motivation: As a young foal, Melody quickly realized her true passion was singing. Even though she is very shy, the Unicorn feels most alive when performing and making music with her voice. Song moves her and nothing else makes her happier than when she sings.
Strengths:
Singing, performances on stage (she is her complete opposite, seeming extroverted and completely comfortable in front of the audience, Melody also uses her magic to make incredible effects for large performances), imagination (she is usually in her own world and can envision excellent designs in her head and come up with great lyrics for her songs and dance routines), caring for her cat and other animals, relating to misfits (like the strange creatures in the Everfree Forest), her general kindness (even if she is a bit odd and slightly standoffish, she has not a single mean bone in her body), empathy, intellect, fashion sense/designing, sense of direction (since she is always escaping ponies, situations, fans, paparazzi, etc., Melody has developed a pretty good sense of where she is at.)
Weaknesses/Flaws:
Shyness, skyrocketed introvert level, awkward social skills, making conversation and friends, speaking her mind and thoughts, getting close to anypony, being intimate in any sense (and no, I do not mean the naughty kind. I read the rules. ), partying (she is a total wallflower, unless it is karaoke), loses herself (when singing she does not always notice things and kind of loses herself, must be brought back to reality), dreamer (instead of always doing what she desires, she instead daydreams about it, which is another thing that has held herself back), paranoid (Melody is constantly afraid her identity will be figured out), insecurity, secrecy (literally no one knows her identity as Cobalt, even her own parents. Her cousin may or may not suspect, but even if she does, Amore certainly never has brought it up.)
Fears:
Fame. Nothing frightens Melody more than becoming a star and having the paparazzi constantly tailing her and her fans frequently adoring her. While she loves nothing more than performing and singing, the attention and fascination everyponies have with stars terrifies this Unicorn and is the primary thing holding her back from revealing the true extent of her incredible singing talent and performing more gigs.
Intimacy. This is not meant simply in a romantic sense. Melody has trouble getting close to anypony, including her own family. Considering she never was able to spend much time with her parents, it is not all that surprising she has intimacy issues. She also had no friends as a foal because of social awkwardness, developing a severe shyness. Sharing her feelings and even making simple conversation is extremely difficult for this particular Unicorn. Being around others and being questioned about herself makes her uncomfortable and very, very shy.
Compliments/Attention. While it sounds rather silly, when other ponies compliment her, Melody feels very embarrassed and even uncomfortable. Singing is simply her passion and she does not feel like she deserves or needs attention because of her talent. Everypony has a talent or more, so why should she get special treatment?
Overall Persona:
Since her parents were very successful ponies, they were almost always gone and off doing their jobs. This left Melody frequently by herself, so she quickly grew to prefer the loneness. In order to entertain herself, she had massive imagination and would play by herself. It was because of this that she never made any friends as a foal, the other young ponies finding her odd and even making fun of her since she was always dreaming and playing make-believe by her lonesome. Melody became very insecure because of this and never developed good social skills. She curled more into herself and never opened to anypony about her feelings and thoughts. Practically a recluse, the Unicorn would immediately return home after school or go into forests and hang out by lakes, ponds, or other bodies of water.
While she thought nothing of it, Melody had been humming and singing to herself since she was a very young foal. If she heard music, she would sing along or come up with lyrics on the spot. One day during recess, she was daydreaming and singing in her own imaginary world. When Melody opened her eyes, she noticed all of the foals encircled around her and staring in awe. They were amazed by her voice. This shocked Melody and left her confused. She began to listen in on her voice and realized that it was rather pleasant on the ears. For several weeks, the Unicorn would do little performances and sing during recess, as well as constantly practicing. Eventually, she caught the attention of the teachers. Melody was convinced to perform in the local talent show. While at first nervous, she eventually agreed and when she went out on stage, she was like a completely different pony. Her performance was spectacular and everypony adored her songs and stage presence. It was then that she earned her cutie mark, fully realizing she had an innate ability of singing and performing. Unfortunately, Melody is only confident and extraverted while singing. It completely disappears once her hooves are off of the stage.
During her high school years, Melody started getting gigs and gathering attention from her performances. This made the Unicorn very nervous and began finding it difficult to be alone. She was constantly forced into social circles and situations. And that is how her secret identity as Cobalt was created. Melody thoroughly studied her mother’s fashion magazines and designs, learning what was hip and how to make outfits. Whenever going out to larger gigs, Melody would act completely different, going under the persona as this new, mysterious rising star that appeared from out of the blue. As Cobalt, she has gathered quite a bit of attention, although it is more limited since Cobalt is never seen anywhere else other than at her performances. Melody avoids certain gigs since she is afraid she will be found out, hence halting her fame and overall degree success. Until she can gain confidence, the unicorn will never live up to her talent level.
Once she graduated, the Mare moved out of her parents’ home and searched for an isolated area with few ponies. Melody discovered the Everfree Forest (from hearing rumors in Ponyville about how scary it was and given warnings to stay away) and went there, building up a home in the forest using her magic. It is here that she found her kitten, Sonya, who was lost, scared, and sick. Feeling pity for the poor animal, Melody took the cat in and nursed her back to health. At first the Unicorn felt fear for the creatures in the forest, but soon learned that quite a few of them were just misfits like her. Overtime, she grew more comfortable in the forest and enjoys taking long walks and trots, even relaxing around bodies of water. Sometimes her voice can be heard singing songs in the forest and it draws the attention of the creatures (and possibly any ponies who dare to venture there…), who tend to like her for the most part since she is kind to them and relates to them, instead of neighing and whinnying in terror and galloping away.
