Likes: Moon Dust likes cool weather, cloudy days, rain, thunderstorms(a trait she receives from her mother) and generally conditions that are avoided by other ponies. If you see the general masses running through the streets with umbrellas, or hiding in their houses, you're more likely to see Moon Dust out dancing in the rain. She is a nice combination of her mother and father in that she enjoys both soft musics and rowdy musics. She likes running water more than just about anything in Equestria, though not as much as the night sky, but let's be honest. Nothing up there is actually a part of Equestria, now is it?
She enjoys salty treats and tea with cream in it. She likes parties and as such is often found in Ponyville, knowing that there is a particularly hyper and party-crazed pony in the small town. Dusty crashes them all!
Moon Dust likes to look pretty, and when she has any time off she's usually tidying herself up or mingling with the early risers of Cloudsdale or Ponyville, as the only time she's really awake is night time and early morning. She frequents the Sweet Apple Acres cart, as one of her favorite treats are the apples she can buy there. Moon Dust loves the view of her two favorite places in all of Equestria bathed in bright moonlight, so as much as she enjoys cloudy nights and storms, she does like to keep a clear sky over Ponyville, just for the treat of seeing it shine in the cool light.
Dislikes: The afternoon. More than anything, she dislikes the afternoon. Hot, sticky and unpleasant. It's too bright usually and she's always been soooo sleepy in the afternoon. School had been difficult for her as a young filly, because afternoon classes usually ended up with her struggling to stay awake. She also dislikes spicy food. She doesn't like the idea of her mouth burning as much as her eyes do in daylight. She doesn't particularly dislike sweet foods, but they aren't her favorite, either. Especially in large quantities.
Any form of bullying is an annoyance to her and she has a habit of jumping up in defense of those being bullied. Unfortunately, the right words rarely come to her and the most she manages to do is get the bullying directed towards herself, which is only slightly less annoying than to watch someone else being bullied. She dislikes the idea of having a pet. Not because she doesn't like animals, because she certainly does. But one of her worst fears makes this a near impossibility for Moon Dust. She also dislikes the idea of having little foals of her own one day when she grows up, for the same reason. Though she does enjoy watching the little ones as they frolic about and play. They are quite adorable.
She dislikes walking far distances and would much rather fly. The muscles in her back and wings are the strongest she has and while she's nowhere near fast enough to ever dream of joining the Wonderbolts, or competing in some kind of fliers' competition, she is sturdy and would easily be able to carry another pony with her. However, on the ground, she is a bit clumsy, as though she has two left hooves.
Motivation: Moon Dust aspires to be an astronomer like her father. She has a deep seated love of the night sky. The moon, the stars, the galaxies upon galaxies beyond the skies of Equestria astound her. She doesn't see the vast darkness in the sky others might. No, she sees the bright colors that surround them. The reds, blues greens and purples spinning in hypnotic patterns ages away from them all. She marvels at how tiny her dear world is compared to all that she has seen in the sky, guided by her father. And she has a hunger to learn more!
Alas, she is still young and her father believes focusing on her homeland first is wise. And so she is but a Weather pony. Which she doesn't mind! She loves helping plan storms and windy days and Winter Wrap-up! And she did manage to snag a night time job. But she still longs for that deep sky above her.
Strengths: Moon Dust is a physically strong pony with high stamina. She can carry more for longer than most other ponies her size. She's also a very honest young mare, believing it to be one of the most important of things in her relationships to other ponies. She is straight forward and a bit stubborn, holding firmly to her beliefs. She is one that believes faith is of utmost importance in any world, be it faith in oneself, in a deity of some kind or in miracles. She does not believe one must see something to believe it, and this allows her imagination to flourish and also her drive to discover more of what is out there.
Weaknesses/Flaws: On the ground Dusty is very clumsy, tumbling over the smallest of obstacles, thus causing her to remain in the air most of the time, or, if she is standing, she is standing as still as she can. She has a weakness to sunlight in that it physically hurts her eyes, probably this is only because she does as much as she can to avoid it and her eyes have grown unaccustomed to it. This theory is most likely. Her honesty is also a weakness as it causes her to be rather blunt and almost harsh from time to time. She's not good at reading the feelings of other ponies and this tends to get her and her company hurt. It's from pure lack of social life. She crashes a plethora of Ponyville parties, true, but she is one of those types that hides in a corner, enjoying the sight of others socializing and having fun. Manning the punchbowl is also a favorite party activity of hers. That way she can say hello to the random passer-by, but not get caught up in too much conversation. Not that she doesn't like conversation! Because she does! She's just bad at it. She's about as clumsy with interaction as she is with walking.
Fears: Nothing. No, really. This young mare is terrified of nothingness. Of being completely alone in a place where she can't reach out to anyone else. It has never happened, and for that, she is grateful. But the thought still worries her a great deal. This is one of the pushes she has towards crashing all those parties and being around other ponies so much.
But being responsible for another pony's well being is what terrifies her the most. The reason she dreads having a pet, foals of her own or even a potted plant is all because of a horrid fear that she will, in some way, completely ruin the thing or pony she is caring for. This is also a part of the reason she wants to set her sights space-ward, away from all the ponies around her. If she's not meddling in the affairs of Equestrians' daily lives, the less likely she is to do any damage.
The contradictions within this pony are something that confound her greatly, so trying to explain them are difficult. Her fear of being responsible for other ponies does not equate to not wanting to be near them, simply that she dislikes having to continuously explain her mistakes, or be someone in charge to whom all the fault lies when something goes horridly wrong. It's actually a rather selfish fear. She doesn't wish to be blamed. But that fear of nothingness keeps her from wanting to escape into the nothingness of space. Oh, no, she'd keep her hooves firmly planted on the clouds, closer to other ponies, thank you very much! So long as she is not expected to look after them all and take them under her wing she enjoys being surrounded by them. One of the herd, not the leader.
Also, badgers give her the creepy crawlies. Especially big ones.
Overall Persona: One might be surprised that two ponies as different from each other as Dawn and Moon Beam were, would ever be able to come together as closely as they did. But Dusk and Moon Dust could not be happier by the odd event. After all, it was the cause of their very existence. And these two offspring join their parents' genes quite nicely.
Dusk came first, and so similar was he to his mother, they were sure he would follow in her flight path and grow to deal in weather. Odd it was that he found a fascination with magics and the stars. Astrology became his passion.
But for Moon Dust, a young filly who took heavily after her father, the more scientific approach to the stars became her desire. She has a gift with weather, the way her mother did, but how could she possibly go out at night with her father so often and not grow to love the stars he so cherished? Her cutie mark came to her one night while she was looking at the moon with her father's telescope and he directed her to glance just beyond the glowing orb to the meteor shower that sprang into life across the night sky. The sight was purely dazzling and took her breath away.
She grew up knowing she would eventually join her father's side as an astronomer and hopefully discover worlds never before seen. But also knowing that her father did want her to be a bit more grounded. Her mother was always willing to provide lessons on weather control, and Dusty did enjoy helping her create massive storms and rainclouds.
Moon Dust has had a fairly easy foal-hood and she truly enjoyed getting to know people in Cloudsdale. But she did want to explore the little town not far from her home. She lived just above them after all, and seeing them mingle in the morning was so nice. After all, many of her friend pegasi had gone to Ponyville a number of times and they seemed to enjoy themselves.
After school she made herself busy, lucky to get into the Night shift of the Weather Control Pegasi. She loves that she still gets a chance to study the night sky, even if she hasn't got her dream job yet. Soon, she knows, she'll be able to reach her goal. But she also has discovered how important it is to expand one's skills. She is good with managing storms. So she is content with the Weather for now.
So after all this, what have we? A young mare who is rarely seen during the day, lest you are an early riser yourself. She is not particularly sweet, though she will answer your questions honestly, and straightforwardly, even if the way in which she does it may be somewhat painful. She's awkward around others who are making her the center of attention and if she's on the ground, this awkwardness doubles. But she loves being around other ponies, which just increases the chances of her making a foal of herself. Though that hardly matters to her. She is going to immerse herself in social events until she can handle herself better! She is determined to do it. Just so long as she isn't made in charge of anything, because then she may have to find some way of handing that responsibility off to someone else and run away.
We have a fairly even tempered youngster who revels in the night and the rain. She sets her sights to the sky and beyond, to observe and marvel at. Though the idea of actually going there worries her to no end. She is strong and steady here, near her home, and it's a shame that she is so useless on the ground, cause otherwise she might have made herself a decent work horse of sorts. Though playing with storm clouds brings her far more joy than that profession would have. She loves her mother and brother, is much closer to her father and is someone who would love to have a very special somepony of her own, though the implications of that worry her. And so, such an occasion has yet to arise.
It's not hard to befriend this pony. But if you hate mornings, you are unlikely to meet her, because she is a hefty mix of Early bird, Night Owl and Pony. You're likely to find her on a low hanging cloud, looking up to the sky or watching the moonlight pass over Cloudsdale or Ponyville.
