First attempt at a character.
Mods: I wanted to give this character a minor mystical ability, but as she's NOT a unicorn, I'm happy to rewrite something that meets your approval. Seeing a vague and hazy hint at the future would suit the concept I have in mind, but I don't want to God Mode anyone.
-General Stuff-
Name: Tarot Dancer
Race: Pegasus
Gender: Female
Age: Late teens
Additional Status: The last time the Royal Equestrian Cavalcade of Whimsy came through town, it boasted a lot of fabulous new attractions. A garden of statues that once had been woodland creatures (accompanied by a story teller wearing a cockatrice feather in his cap), Zebra triplets who specialized in the contortionists' arts, and a family of "gifted" pegasii who might read your mind, or your palm, or your past lives. The youngest daughter claimed to be able to read one's fortune, a distant, shifting future, and this, dear readers, is where Tarot Dancer decided to leave her family.
-Physical Stuff-
Pelt Color: Tangerine
Mane/Tail Color and Style: Light, powdery blue, often tied up in elaborate loops or braids, with ribbons, or coins, or bells. It changes daily, most often to benefit the fortune teller image, along with a wide array of colorful, flowing, gypsy style outfits.
Eye Color: Dark and vibrant royal blue.
Cutie Mark: A spread of three tarot cards. With her wings most often tucked over her flanks, any pony you ask that's seen it may tell you a different set of cards.
Other Scars/Markings: A splash of freckles across the bridge of her snoot. When she is "working," she may wear bindi gems, or bits of glitter, and dark, exaggerated makeup.
Physique: About as tall as she's going to get, just a bit of baby fat left, but her face shows signs of being long and slender, some day, similar to that rare Canterlot look. Her eyes are less round, and more exotic, showing that she's most likely from the farther edges of Equestria.
-Social Stuff-
Current Residence: Not that anypony has seen it yet, but she's believed to be staying somewhere near (not in) the fringe of the Everfree Forest.
Job: Her family has always been some form of fortune teller, carnival folk, or sooth sayer - leaving the troupe was not for want of a better path, and so, Tarot does exactly what she feels she must, no matter where she travels. She lays out her cards, and looks into the future of anypony with a few bits to spare.
Mother: Dreamy Leaf - reads tea leaves to divine a pony's "true love," as well as teaching meditation and mirror-scrying, when the troupe stays in place more than a week or two.
Father: Big Top, more showman than shaman, but always knows just what the crowd wants.
Sibling(s): Oldest sister, Heart Line, who reads a pony's traits by observing the lines in their hooves. Middle sister, Memory Lane, who spins stories about past lives. One older brother, a "jack of all trades," who has moved on to entertain the lesser courts of Canterlot, going from patron to patron, performing any mystic acts that the fashionable ponies take interest in that day.
Closest Friends: A pet bat (Vovotchka, male, light gray), who she may or may not use as an excuse to talk to herself when lost in thought. Largely nocturnal, and left to sleep in her tent, or in the forest itself during most daylight hours. Early evening, into the night, if Tarot is awake, tiny Vovotchka is most often clinging to her shoulders, or hiding out in her hair.
-Personality Stuff-
Likes: Dark, subdued colors, but never wears them. Sour apple anything. Staying up late on full moon nights. Warm tea. Socks. The rocking motion of the caravan wagons travelling over long distances - it's hard to fall asleep on solid ground. Mimes, they make good listeners. Small flying mammals.
Dislikes: Housekeeping, or anything that resembles staying in place for too long. The taste of peppermint. Cold drinks. Chickens, or any domesticated bird.
Motivation: Journal exerpt: "Never in my short life would I have thought it would be my own destiny. Sure, Mother reads such things daily for other ponies, NORMAL ponies, those that don't travel, as we do, but.. I thought, at the very least, it might be with someone more... I don't know, more like myself? More fitting of my own world? A young stallion, here in.. I don't even know what town we're in, it's been such a rush staying ahead of the weather! Well, I must say, I've never seen that look in anypony-other's eyes, but.. I know that feeling well. I have to find him. I'm leaving my little circus world, at least for a short while. I have to know him. I have to make certain that he knows me.
Our kind is never welcome in any town for very long, but.. I have to at least try. Of course, assuming he's even from here at all is a long shot - we're worth travelling for, and there aren't any larger towns near by, that I could see on the way in.
I'll give it a month. I'll stay out from underhoof when I'm not searching, and that should buy me enough time to find him, and if I don't, I'll go straight ahead to meet up with the rest of The Cavalcade, I promise!"
Strengths: Strong-willed, cheerful, and honest.
Weaknesses/Flaws: Strong-willed, cheerful, and honest.
Fears: Losing her cards, losing her "sight," or reading a fortune too dark to tell. But her deepest fear? Falling in love - Tarot has always skirted around courtship, claiming to be too young for such foolish notions as love, but this is getting harder and harder to avoid. Tarot has learned to flirt-and-leave at the same time, but she knows she won't be a young filly forever. Sooner or later, some charlatan will have the chance to break her heart.
Overall Persona: What more is there to say? Raised to see what other ponies cannot, she has a difficult time seeing and understanding her own life. She knows to never judge a pony by his appearance, and that life is full of magic and mystery. She knows that the clearer a future seems, the harder it is to change. And she knows that the things that keep her awake a night, at long last, are not hers alone to carry. Somepony else out there has that look - and she's going to find him.
