-General Stuff-
Name: Panado Saesto
Nickname/Alias(es): “Father” (To Balvo and Saturnino)
Race: Deer
Gender: Buck (Male)
Age: Mature. Getting on for middle-aged (approx. 40 in human years).
Additional Status: Widoer
-Physical Stuff-
Pelt Color: Chocolate brown and dusty from the dirt of the road.
Mane/Tail Color and Style: Jet black, medium length and somewhat unkempt. Panado has had little time to attend to personal grooming recently and would prefer to make himself more presentable should the opportunity arise.
Eye Color: Smoky blue
Cutie Mark: None (deer don’t have cutie marks!)
Other Scars/Markings: There are white speckles above his nose and on his chest.
Physique: Large and solidly built, Panado is tough and all but implacable when he plants his hooves, though this does very much detract from his raw speed.
Antlers: Panado, like all male, has a pair of rather intimidating antlers growing out of the top of his head. These tough implements can (and are intended to) be used as weapons, but one may also hang things off their many branches so long as they are relatively light (or the deer doesn’t mind getting a headache afterwards!).
Locket: Panado carries a star-shaped locket with an inscribed image of his departed wife inside.
-Social Stuff-
Current Residence: Transitory. Recently arrived in Equestria looking for a new home for his family after his home country of Cerrvia was ravaged by natural disasters that left his home in ruins and his wife dead.
Job: Was a historian back in his home town.
Mother: TBA
Father: TBA
Sibling(s): TBA
Other Family: TBA
Closest Friends: Panado left most of his friends behind when he fled his home town.
Courting/Courted By: None. With his wife recently gone, Panado is not yet ready for fresh romance. This may change in the future, but for now, Panado has not yet finished grieving...
Mate: He had a wife. Her name was Belleza...
Foal(s): Panado has two sons Balvo and Saturnino, whom he rescued from the encroaching disasters. He is now consumed with trying to find a new home for them and their continued survival is a large part of what keeps the bereaved father going...
Language: Panado speaks both fluent Equestrian and his people’s native language*.
*(Note: This “native language” is, in fact, Spanish)
-Personality Stuff-
Likes: Calm days, books, teaching his sons new things, having fun (within reason...), interviewing others (as part of his historical research) and lounging by a warm fire with a mug of good coffee...
Dislikes: Harsh weather (it gives him nasty flashbacks...), disrespectful types, urban legends (they distract from real history!), his sons getting themselves into trouble and bad coffee.
Motivation: He is driven by his desire to find a new (and safe, this time!) home for himself and (more importantly) what’s left of his family.
Strengths: Panado is highly respectful of others, with a formal, diplomatic courtesy that is always clashing with his more fun-loving side, which is another strength of his as it prevents restraint from giving over into stuffy boredom. If you can manage to get him relaxed, his inner foal will reveal itself and he can be quite a lot of fun... He is also highly persevering. Never one to give up, the harsh world out there will have his sons over his dead body... It goes without saying that he is also highly protective, especially after what happened back in his homeland, which can come in handy in a foreign land like Equestria... He is also studious and intelligent, with a sharp, quick-witted mind.
Weaknesses/Flaws: Panado is sometimes blunt and overly critical, particularly when his sons fall short in their performance (such as at school). His protective nature, meanwhile, has a tendency to stray into the over-protective, with Panado being slow to fully trust those with whom he interacts. He will also brook no insult, having little patience for those who refuse to show him the same respect that he (at least initially) shows them, as he (somewhat irrationally) perceives such lack of respect as a slight against his own person. He also, in light of recent events, has a mild overall distrust for Pegasus ponies and their ability to bring on different kinds of weather.
Fears: Has some post-traumatic stress with regards to the natural disasters he and his family went through back in their homeland, and he greatly fears that they will somehow chase him down all the way into Equestria. This is why he can sometimes be seen frantically trying to find his sons some cover the moment lightning starts to strike, the poor weather pegasi having no idea what they’re putting this beleaguered father through with every storm...
Overall Persona: A damaged but as yet undestroyed soul, Panado has done his best not to let the terrible events he has lived through change him, but his emotional scars, understandably, are still healing. With most everything else in his life gone, his children have become his entire world, and he would do literally anything to protect them. It is little wonder, then, why he has a hard time lightening up. He is, however, a good soul at heart and if anyone has enough magic of friendship to break through Panado’s hardened exterior, it’s the ponies of Equestria. He also may not have any patience for disrespectful bullies and pranksters, but he’d never hurt anyone over it, as he can be stern, yes, but he’s never violent (well, not unless you attack him or his children first!).
An intellectual at heart, Panado also seeks to rebuild the collected histories he lost in Cerrvian disasters and would like nothing more than to find somewhere to settle that has a rich cultural heritage he can study, though this is very much secondary to finding somewhere that is safe for his sons. He’s doing his best to pass on his knowledge and wisdom, but as yet, Balvo and Saturnino are young, yet even to master the Equestrian language they will now need to speak given their changed circumstances, and patience is a virtue Panado only usually possesses. Ultimately, however, he has no doubt that the pair will grow up to be fine adults, and is happy to allow the proverbial reigns to slacken when he feels it is safe to do so, as he knows enough to know that children must, within reason, be allowed to explore the world on their own time as well as under the tuition of adults...
In short, Panado is a seeker of internal and external peace. This is what he had prior to the disasters and what he now seeks to reclaim...
