Overall Persona: Shylock is a hopeless romantic in all things. His passion in life is finding lost items and seeing a pony's face light up when they are reunited. Secretly he would like to find a mate but his shyness gets in the way of that search.
Shylock is a very anxious pony until he has a mystery to solve, then "the game is ahoof". As soon as his detective hat goes on he feels like a different pony, filled with confidence and determination. The search gives him purpose and empowers the pony to act without the burden of his shyness. But just as quickly as this feeling comes, it can disappear and he reverts to his shy, timid self. Shylock is also a hopeless romantic, a sentimental dreamer in love with the idea of love. He wears his heart on his sleeve, never afraid to get hurt when there is a chance at romance. Often his shy nature will get in the way of his fanciful dreams but the fleeting moments of confidence sometimes lead to happiness.
Background: As a young foal, Shylock struggled to find his place in the world. His father was a famous author and often didn’t have time to bond with his young son. Growing up, Shylock would bury himself in his father’s books, reading the stories of daring detectives and heroic PIs. It was the passion of those characters that always stuck with Shylock. He idolized these characters and saw himself as the kind hearted outsider doing the right thing, no matter what. The more he read, the closer he felt to his often too busy father.
