Fears: Pfffhahahaha! (losing his brother, but he'd never admit 'weakness')
Overall Persona: Compass Star and his brother were raised in an orphanage in Canterlot, never knowing who their parents were. Iris, his elder brother, took on the task of raising them both where their parents had failed. It was a well-run establishment, but it couldn't protect them from everything, and Iris ended up with the brunt of the bullying they both received. As a pastime and distraction, both brothers took up drawing. While Iris' drawings waxed artistic, Star took the more practical approach and drew what he saw: a map of the orphanage. By the end of his second year there, he had the entire complex mapped out in startling detail, and when that wasn't enough, he waited for opportunities to leave it to map the surrounding city. He always came back, of course, to relate to his brother what he'd seen and draw maps of it. He had a photographic memory and could recall any location he'd been after little more than a glance.
After several years at the orphanage and never being adopted (which upset Star a lot less than his brother; he was perfectly happy having nopony other than Iris), Iris' artistic work had reached such a level that he could sell his works, and he took commissions for many ponies around the city. It was unorthodox, but the headmaster had decided they were both old and capable enough to live on their own, and released them. But although he was perfectly happy staying in the city, it wasn't enough for Star. Star immediately set out on his own to explore the world. He gathered fame for his ability and cunning, and very soon he was renowned all over Equestria as a rough and tough explorer. He was the first pony to ever climb Dragon Mountain, and prove (for the time being) that there was no dragon living there.
Now, even though he could live comfortably on his earnings from grants of geographical communities countrywide, he never settled down, and explores anywhere he can simply for the glory and excitement of it. Occasionally he visits his brother in Canterlot, but never stays for long, and soon is back on another adventure!
