It didn't seem like it had been so long, Cobblestone mused, like it had just been Spring a moment ago and now it was Autumn again. He once heard when he was little that time speeds up as you get older, which he always assumed was why older ponies never seemed to have time for anything.
But he'd certainly changed in the past three years, getting taller, slightly more plump and gangly, and to everyone's surprise a cutie mark that wasn't just solid black, but rather a few stray bands of orange that made it look like a tarantula was hiding on his posterior. He wore glasses now, and he liked them. Some ponies would say the combination of orange rimmed spectacles and gangly physique made the young colt resemble a daddy-long-legs, and that suited him just fine.
Sitting beside him was another pony who could've easily passed for his twin, save for a lack of glasses, no cutie mark, and a few stray orange highlights in their mane. Pin the changeling had officially moved in with he and his sister a few years earlier, and had stuck with mimicking Cobblestone, but not as intensely. They still shapeshifted when the mood struck them, but they seemed content most of the time.
The two of them chattered happily with one another, their voices slightly different as well. They'd been going to the academy and doing well in their studies, although Pin enjoyed antagonizing the reformed changelings, much to the dismay of the teachers.
But now they were back at the train station, eagerly awaiting a friend who had been away for what seemed like forever. They laughed about how it felt like this was just how it was last time he came to Ponyville, and how the more things changed the more they stayed the same.
