The Orb of Pegasi (Note Pretender, Pixel Note, Fleur)

A day at a museum. Yay. It wasn't as if I hated museums, but they were soo boring. I mean, who wants to learn about history when there is fiction? Yet I went, anyway. Song and Wright wanted to see the quill of some early composer/playwright. That's their thing. My only job was to keep an eye on them, and I did. They were chatting excitedly about the first musical when I noticed a poster that said: PEGASI NEEDED: MUST BE WILLING TO SPEND ENTIRE SUMMER ON AN ADVENTURE. Below the sign it mention a heavy pay, but I was caught by the "entire summer on an adventure". I mean, how often do you get to go on an adventure? I only just contained my excitement long enough to get the twins pas the exhibit. I grabbed a flyer, and decided to talk to the manager of the museum, like to poster said. My parents were rather lax when I asked them if it was all right, they decided that the museum wouldn't send anyone on an adventure if it wasn't safe. I tucked the flyer under my wing and bolted down the hall, barely containing myself to knock on the door to the manager's office without breaking it down. A young pony came to the door, explaining that he was the secretary. He then asked my business at the manager's office. I didn't trust myself to speak, so I simply held up the flyer. The secretary nodded, then said something to the manager. "So, you are here about the flyer?" The manager said. I nodded. "The museum has been searching for The Orb of Pegasi for many years, and we have finally found it. However, there is a catch. Only a pegasus can lift the orb from it's resting place. It is not an easy trip, you cannot fly there, because of high winds. So, you are interested still? It may be dangerous." Once again I nodded. "Be at the Canterlot train station at noon on Tuesday. Here is your ticket. You will go to the end of the line, then continue into the heart of the mountain range, although I am not sure it is straight mountains. In the center, there is a valley of brambles. In the center of that is a temple. In there is the orb. I am not sure exactly what challenges you will face, but trust me, there will be challenges." Despite her words putting nervous doubts into my mind, they also excited the adventurous side of me, which was pretty dominant. The ticket was in an envelope, which also contained a list of things I needed, and money to buy everything. My parents were excited to see me so excited, and helped me get everything I needed.
Finally Tuesday arrived, and despite my excitement, butterflies fluttered around in my stomach. The manager had told me that two other pegasi signed up, and I was looking forward to meeting them. I stepped onto the platform, looking around. She had told me to wait around the ticket purchase booth, so I stepped over to it. The manager said that there was a pink, rainbow-haired pony named... Pixel Music? And a white and...blue? mare... Flower? I didn't see them yet, but I noticed there was a full 10 minutes till noon, so I sat down to wait for the others.

❝It had been a busy day that day when Fleur spotted a flyer posted to a tree. Ponies were bustling everywhere, and she barely got to read what it said before another pony would knock her over. She would apologize shyly, then notice that they weren'teven paying attention. However, that kind of attitude didn't bother her when she gently tugged the flier off the tree and pulled the nail out. As she read it, she began to smile to herself. An adventure? she thought, knowing she had only adventured Ponyville and Cloudsdale since she was born. The adventure to Ponyville had been a frightful one, yet she made it through.

The flier read that Fleur was to meet another pony, which didn't sound very appealing to her. Of course, this pony was simply the adventure manager and she would only give directions and instructions. Fleur had neared the office wearily, scared of the kind of ponies that waited inside. She pushed the door open ever so slowly and peeked in, saying in the smallest of voices, "Hello?" No one seemed to respond, or else no one heard her, so she walked inside and jumped as the wooden thing slammed behind her. She trotted up tothe front desk and looked over to see a mare filing important papers. Maybe I should come back later, she had thought. But just as she was about to leave, the mare had turned around and spoken a warm welcoming. Fleur simply smiled and told her about the flyer, and the manager had given her an envelope of stuff and instructions. As Fleur was going to leave, the manager had added that she was to be in Canterlot by tomorrow.

Well, now tomorrow was today, and Fleur had barely made it on time. She stepped onto the train station platform with a small bag of belongings strapped to her side, and her envelope of stuff in her bag. Her train ticket was held firmly between her teeth. Nervousness fluttered in Fleur's stomach, as she was told she wasn't doing this adventure alone. She was joining two other ponies that were just as eager as she was to sign up, even if it was the death of them all. She shivered, she wouldn't think of that. This first real adventure should be fun, and maybe she could even write about it when she got home. This adventure should inspire her.

Fleur looked around the platform and noticed the train nearing. Even if her companions were on the platform, she wouldn't reconize them, so she decided to wait for ponies that were going to the same place she was, whereever that place should be.

"Next!" The cashier said, looking past the pony in front of him. Pixel Note pre-ordered one of the best games out there, and she was next in line to get it. She internally squealed as she stepped up the counter and snatched the game out of his hooves. "I can't believe I actually have it! I spent a whole 2 months saving money from my job, for crying out loud!" Pixel muttered to herself as she slammed some bits on the counter and took off.

"Ugh, but now I'm broke....." Pix thought and sighed, looking at her now empty wallet. She didn't like her wallet being all lonely since it had not bits in it, but she was waiting for this game for ages. "Maybe I should work even harder to get double my pay. Then again, that might mean having to come up with two video game songs in one day...sheesh." The pink pegasus shook that thought off of her head. That would take a ridiculous amount of time over sleep and gaming. That was not an option Pixel was willing to take. She groaned before slipping the game into her saddlebag. Now all she had to do was find a way to gather up more bits.

It wasn't hard to find a hundred ponies looking for other ponies to give jobs to. Ponyville was filled with hard workers, and also filled with job hunters. Pixel scanned the board for something easy to do, yet a large pay. Sure, she had a job of her own, but that wasn't enough. There was another game coming after just a few months, and it was probably even more expensive. "Sweet Celestia, are these ponies broke or something? They're all so cheap-" Pausing, Note trotted up for a closer look. That was a very, very, very, high price.

But, Pixel balked once she read the entire thing. She had to spend her entire summer on this! She would've finished two games or something by then! Pix sighed and gave in as soon as she checked the price again. She must have this next game. Plus, it said pegasi needed. Pixel grinned as she ripped the paper off the board. "I guess I should tell Sterry about this, huh....she'll help me pack." She had a mother, no, caretaker, Stereo Night, and Pixel had to tell her before actually doing this. Excited, she dashed off to go home and tell her.

Stereo Night was more than happy to say yes. Pixel was even happier that she accepted. The mare that gave her the job said that she was going to work with two other mares. Goody! It would be hard to work alone on such an adventure. Pixel didn't quite catch the names or how they looked, though. It'll be hard to look for them. She played the video game she had just bought as she waited in the train, some ponies eyeing her when she grunted when she died or chuckled evilly when she successfully killed a vicious enemy. Once there, Note placed the game in her saddlebag before frantically trotting along the group of ponies who were also getting off the train. And there she was. Canterlot. It was even shinier than how it looked before. "Now, where are those ponies....?" Pixel thought, looking around for fellow adventurers.

You'd think a pony with rainbow hair would be easy to find, but in the midst of the crowd, it wasn't too easy. Ponies were walking this way and that, crowding the platform. I scanned the area, over and over, but I saw nopony with rainbow hair. Finally, I saw a pony with a bright colorful mane, rainbow, in fact. I cut across the thick crown, shoving my way until I was right next to the pony. Her hair was indeed rainbow, I inferred after studying each stripe, and she had a pink body. "Hello, are you here for the adventure ad? The museum manager said that one of the ponies that signed up had rainbow hair and a pink body. She also mentioned their name, are you, uh, Pixel...Music? Sorry, she only briefly mentioned you." I smiled, waiting for the pony to turn around. I noticed her cutie mark, and before she said anything, I asked "Are you interested in music? Well, I mean, your name, but your cutie mark, as well. Also, do you know who the other pony is on this adventure?" I realized that I hadn't even let the mare speak to confirm that she was the pony who was coming on this adventure. "Uh, sorry to bug you, if you aren't the one going for the Orb of Pegasi." I smiled, looking at the pony's face, awaiting a response. I noticed another pony in the crowd, behind her, who had a flower for a cutie mark and a white body, wondering if that was the other pony.

❝Fleur stood nervously on the train station platform, awaiting the train. Ponies seemed to be everywhere, just like they were in Ponyville. It was a busy day in Equestria. However, a pony in front of her had caught her attention, mostly because she seemed very bright. Bright, because of her colours. She had a rainbow mane and a pink body.

When Fleur saw another pony approach her and start talking to her, she took a step back. I'm such a loner, Fleue thought to herself as she looked at her hooves. But it's okay with me. She was extremely eager for the train to get to the station, so she could board. It had been nearing, but it was still a bit of a ways away. She sighed, she didn't enjoy waiting all that much, but she was patient. Bssides, she would be spending her whole summer on this adventure, it's not like she would enjoy Canterlot for long.

Fleur looked around at her surroundings. The castle was the thing that interested her most, with its beautiful colours and tall towers. The whole city was glorious, and of course, she would have to come back sometime. That is, sometime after this adventure. Her mind came back to the present time as the train blew its loud horn.

Pixel Note hummed the background music of the game she was just playing. They did a good job on the music again. She snapped out of it as a blue-haired mare approached her. Was she one of the other adventurers? But of course she was, that was the first thing the mare mentioned! Pixel listened closely and almost laughed when she said 'Pixel Music'. "Hmm......you're with the wrong pony......psyche! Sorry, I've always wanted to do that." She explained, waving her hoof in apology. "The name's Pixel Note." Pixel grinned at the mare as she looked at her own cutie mark. "And yes, I love music. It's my job to create video game music."

Smiling, Pix tilted her head to get a better look of the mare's cutie mark. "Oh, you like music too? Cool!" She complimented, trying to get to know the mare. "What's your name by the way? I don't think I caught it." Pixel browsed her memory for any kind of hint. "I'm pretty sure she's the pony with the theater-related name......something like Note Actor or.......you know what? Just wait for the pony to answer." She thought to herself and then awaited patiently.

After a few seconds, Pixel turned her head to looked around the station. How did the other mare look? She didn't know. But before she could turn back to the mare in front of her, Pixel noticed another mare with a white pelt and purple hair. She looked quite troubled, but Pixel probably shouldn't bother her. They were complete strangers to each other. But, what if it was actually fate and that was the pony supposed to join? Pixel sighed and then faced the other mare again, deciding to ask her later if she could.

I sighed in relief when the pony said she said her name was Pixel Note, which I suddenly remembered from the talk with the manager. "I was worried there for a second, when you said that you weren't the pony I was looking for! That would have been embarrassing. Well, yeah, I'm Note Pretender. I do musicals, so yeah, I'm big on music. So, we share a word in our names! Ok, we need to find the third to our adventure. I believe there name was Flower or something. I saw a pony that matched the description, I think, I am going to go as them if they are the pony, OK?" After I felt like I had sufficiently explained myself, I tnodded to Pixel Note and pointed with my hoof to the pony I had noticed before, and I trotted up to the mare with the flower cutie mark. "Hi. I'm Note Pretender, and are you the other pony on the adventure for the Orb of Pegasi? Assuming you are, this is Pixel Note, the other pony on the adventure. If you aren't, I am sorry to interrupt your day." I stood there wondering if they were the pony. I realized I did a lot of talking and assuming, and blushed, nervous. In the distance I heard a quiet rumbling, and I realized that it was the train. Suddenly it hit me that the train ride would be a few days, and that didn't sound as exciting as an adventure to recover an important artifact. When the artifact came to mind, daydreams began to circle in my head of adventure and excitement. However, I had to force my self down to earth to hear the pony's response.

❝Fleur had been staring off in the distance when another pegasus approached her. When she spoke, she exaplind who she was, then asked Fleur if she was the pegasus they had been searching for. At first, Fleur stared, dumbfounded, at the two pegasi. Then she regained herself and started mumbling. "Y-yeah?" she squeaked, then turned a bright pink shade. Come on Fleur, this is a horrible first impression.

Fleur stood up straighter and stared Note Pretender in the eyes. She smiled, if a bit weakly, and tried to speak calmly. Yeah... I'm Fleur de la Rivere, but-but everyone calls me Fleur." The last word came as a whisper.

Pixel grinned at Note Pretender's reaction to her small little prank and nodded back when she nodded. Pix followed the mare and sighed to herself. One down, one more to go. At least she didn't have to search the entire streets of Canterlot just to find the ponies she'd work with. As soon as Note blurted out a whole conversation to the white mare, Pixel almost laughed. Not to be rude, but the thought of having a pony come up and talk to you when you were daydreaming was hilarious. It would be awkward, even more if you're shy.

Realizing she should introduce herself, Pixel snapped out of her trance and did the friendliest smile she could think of. "Fleur? Cool name! Mine's Pixel Note. You can call me Pixel, though." She glanced at Note, then back to Fleur. Pixel wasn't a very talkative one unless she was with a friend. "So uh.....I guess we'll all be in an adventure and stuff. What're we supposed to do first exactly?" Pixel asked Note, utterly confused and info-deprived. She didn't know much about the adventure, either. This is what happens when you don't bring a quest log along.

The wind blew through Pixel's mane as she stood there, waiting for her reply. "Are we supposed to head to some temple or something? Visit a crime scene? Hike a mountain? Go through the cave mines?" Pixel asked jokingly. Who knows, one of those questions might be correct. Then they'll be like Daring Do, Link, or maybe even Robin Hood! ......that might be too soon.

After introductions, Pixel Note asked what we'd do next. "First of all, we've got a long train ride before this adventure even begins, might give us some time to get to know each other. We'll be riding the train to the end of the line, at the foot of the mountains. There is a lot of wind, so nopony can fly there, so we'll be traveling the mountains on hoof. Nopony is really sure what lies beyond the mountains, or how far in the Temple of the Pegasi is, but it should take all summer. I trust you brought a tent? If not, I have a really big one. The train will be here any minute now, I can see it. We have an entire car to ourselves, which makes sense because the train ride is actually overnight." I could see the train by now, and it was coming fast towards the station. I started gathering my bags, and told the others to do the same. I was nervous about the whole thing, and felt like puking, but I had to keep myself together.

I was interest to see what bonds we would form from spending an entire summer together, as I had never experienced anything like that. Visions of the epic adventure began to dance in my head. Visions of leaping across sharp boulders, of battles and fights. Thrill began to seep into my blood, excitement for the trip. What glory would our adventure bring to us? Us, a group, a threesome! It was a challenge to keep myself from leaping into the train without a second thought as it pulled into the station. I pointed to the car that the museum manager reserved for us and began to cut through the crowd, signalling for them to follow me. "This must be the car, come on!"

❝Fleur was happy that her companions were friendly and exciting. She gathered what little things she had brought, plus a scroll on which a story she was writing. She wasn't sure why she was bringing it, but maybe if they were stuck in one spot for a while, she would be happy she brought it along. She cut gracefully through the crowd after Note Pretender and Pixel Note, towards the car in which she would be in for a long while. This would be the longest train ride she had ever been on. She was excited for the adventure to get started.

Once she stepped on board, she turned to the other two pegasi. "You guys can choose where you want to stay first, I don't really care where I am put." Knowing that they were friendly helped her with her shyness. She could say normal things to them, but she might be embarrassed if they noticed her writing in her scroll. Sometime, though, they would notice, and it would be an awkward conversation for her. She thought about the ending to the story. She had already written most of it, but she couldn't think of an ending. Maybe, the conversation wouldn't be as weird if she asked their opinions on the ending. She smiled, that sounded like a good idea.

Pixel Note listened intently to Note Pretender as her eyes slowly drifted towards her bag. "My caretaker Stereo Night helped me pack in case I forgot anything, and I'm pretty sure I saw her stuff a tent in there." She reassured, patting her saddlebag. "But geez, the whole summer? I just have to keep high hopes that there's a place to charge my stuff." Pixel sighed, glad that she brought all the chargers she needed and enough extra portable chargers. She was also glad that she had new friends to be with whenever she can't plug on and play some Super Smack.

Soon afterward, Pix heard a loud noise, her ear twitching once she heard it. She turned toward the source of it and grinned once she spotted the train coming closer and closer. Just as what Note had said, Pixel grabbed all her other bags and followed the others into the train. She nodded to Fleur with an assuring smile and continued on into the large crowd. Boy, that was a lot o' ponies.

As soon as they got out of the crowd and into the car reserved especially for them (which Pixel thought made them look as if they were V.I.P.), Pixel set her bags down and sat on a random seat next to a window, hoping the others wouldn't mind where she sat. She always felt less dizzy when she was able to see what was going on outside. Pix heaved a sigh of sweet release and turned her head to the others. "You guys gonna come sit?" She asked. "I can't wait another second for this new quest!"

I stepped inside the car and began to scan the area. On one side there were some benches, just like you had in a normal car, except that between them there was a table. A chandelier hung from the ceiling. At one end of the car there was a large, fluffy, big couch that curved along the corner. Two armchairs sat parallel and in the center was a rather large coffee table. In the corner there was a small camping stove to cook our food, and a large table and chairs to eat at. At the end opposite the couch there was a hallway with three doors, each leading to a bedroom. I examined the bedroom to find that it had a rather large cot so covered in sheets and blankets that it looked like a bed. Next to the cot was a night-table with a lamp. A small chandelier hung from the ceiling, exactly like the one in the main room, but smaller. All three bedrooms were the same.



I stepped out of the hallway to find Pixel Note sitting by the window. “Hey guys! Note Pretender is kind of long to say, you can call me Notes! So, you guys are on an adventure, eh? What made you come here? I for one just craved adventure like in books, movies, and plays, you know? I always do. I was at the museum and saw the ad, and immediately talked to the museum owner. I probably couldn’t have convinced my parents to let me go if it wasn’t for the money.” I smiled, thinking of the day when I ripped the flyer off the wall. As I looked upon the two pegasi, visions began to dance in my head of Fleur inquiring about a flyer, of Pixel Note reading an ad, and I wondered how they came across the ad in the first place, and why they decided to do it.

❝Fleur stood for a while, not really doing anything in particular. Finally, she snapped back to attention and sat down at another window seat, facing Pixel and Notes. She wanted to have a conversation, so she answered Note Pretender's question.

"I really have no interest in money, because I don't really want to buy anything at the moment. When I saw the flier, I didn't even notice the reward, I just wanted the adventure. I haven't ever been on a real adventure, and when I saw this, I couldn't pass up the grand opportunity. I wanted to be known for something, and have a great memory to hold on to when this is over.

But it's only just begun." She looked down into her saddle bag and pulled out a map. Where they were headed was almost unknown lands, and she had no clue how in the world they would get there. She had noticed Note explore the rooms, before speaking, and at the glimpse she spotted, they seemed pretty nice. She would sleep well tonight, with the soft rattle of the train and the billions of blankets. She might've wanted to bring a pillow, but she did have another fluffy thing she could lay her head on. "By the way, did anyone bring a pillow?"

Pixel Note quietly yawned as she glanced out the window and then picked up her saddlebag. She reached out for her MP3, turning it on and plugging her headphones on. "Well...I just recently bought a game and went broke, and I still have to buy another game after a few months." Pixel explained after Fleur talked about how she found the ad. "I saw the flyer, was absolutely shocked at the price it gave, and I also really wanted to experience what the ponies in my games are experiencing, you know? Adventures n' stuff." Pix made a small chuckle before picking a song and lowering the volume, just so she could hear the conversation.

"Also, Fleur, I brought two pillows." Pixel said before looked at her saddlebags, searching for the right one, and opened the navy blue one with stars and a moon on it, indicating that it had tents, sleeping bags, and whatever she needed for camping. Pixel opened it up and presented the two pillows to her new friends. One of them was a green rectangle with a creeper face on it, and the other looked like a flat Ponyball. "Tada! Traded them for some goods at the Trader's Exchange last year." Pix laughed at her own geeky personality and set both pillows in front of her.

Pixel looked out the window again, thinking of a new conversation topic and at the same time, waiting for somepony else to say something. For now, she stayed silent, not knowing what else to say. After a few seconds of humming along to the song she was listening to, she turned to the other mares and asked, "So.......what do you guys thing we'll see and do there? I literally have no clue."
