-Personality Stuff-
Likes: Baldoire has a penchant for epochal gear and weapon replicas even though they serve little purpose nowadays. By extension, he will stop by any historical work, play or anecdote, and is eager to meet anypony in the trade of any job of the old Equestria ( blacksmiths, for instance ) or in the teaching of martial arts even though he isn't interested in intense training himself. He appreciates and recognises the smell of old components although he couldn't name a tenth of them. He also has a deep fondness for playactors for whom he makes himself a reliable maecenas.
Dislikes: Weather ponies, for starters, as most weather effects tend to deteriorate his material and he can't swim. Then, anything and anyone promoting state-of-the-art material, concepts, and even opinions in most extreme cases, such as the belittling of ancient practices, against which Baldoire is ready to engage in a passive-agressive conversation about how the other party is misinformed. Above-mentioned state-of-the-art matters include, among other things, cinematography, magic deprived science, and Manehattan.
Motivation: Baldoire has fairly straightforward goals in life : collecting as many antiques as possible as long as it doesn't imply potentially lethal adventures, getting acquainted with knowledgeable figures such as Celestia and Luna, and earning enough with his part-time escort job to pay for his rent andtaxes, perhaps even buy his own house.[/b]
Strengths: The bruises on his forehead come from his favourite strategy to defend his clients : ramming himself into the assailant like a cannonball. On the long run, this training made him almost impossible to knock out, one of the only reasons he gets jobs at all. On the other hand, he is also good at evaluating danger and knowing when to retreat, usually forcefully carrying his client out of danger at the same time. The fact that he almost constantly wears armor or at least clothes grants him extra defense against most hazards, sometimes even magic, as he acquires his gear through means he sometimes doesn't understand to their full extent. He knows how to swing his weapon replicas around, which, even though they aren't exactly efficient, is intimidating enough to non connoisseurs. Another asset of his is his sense of direction, allowing him to be wherever he is asked to. On a last note, he benefits from a dominant white knight syndrome.
Weaknesses/Flaws: He suffers from a dominant white knight syndrome, which can and will lead him to jump to conclusions and leap at the rescue of anything resembling a damsel or gallant in distress. And he is easily tricked or deceived if he doesn't have every element of the situation in mind, meaning he may turn against his client if he considers them to be worst than, say, somepony threatening them. His great sense of direction is counterbalanced by his memory, often playing tricks on him when the matter isn't direction, and partial surdity, preventing him from hearing someone begging for help on the other side of a wall, for instance. Probably the greatest of Baldoire's flaws is how religiously he holds on to his epochal properties, getting ungodly tunnel vision whenever his collection is at stake.
Fears: Baldoire fears for hiscollection, as mentioned earlier. He also stays as far as he can from large water surfaces, since he can't swim, and hotter areas, since his clothing feels like an oven under tropical conditions. He would never set hoof in the Everfree Forest, as its hazardous climate and fearless monsters effortlessly counter his every strategy.
Overall Persona: Although he is not directly influenced by them, epics and fictionalised History inspire his every move and accoutrements, leading him to dress up as a fully armoured guard of some sort whenever he is planning on working and as a medieval citizen whenever he is planning on having what he sees as a casual day, among other conceptions of what suits when. It is rare to see him naked outside of early mornings and late evenings, as those times of the day are when he isn't decided on what he will spend his day doing or is done with today'sschedule. Through subtelties of psychology, his behaviour derives directly from what he is wearing, making him slightly different ponies to analyse depending on his gear and causing him greatdistress whenever his day drifts too far from his initial projects. Despite his odd obsessions, Baldoire has some constant personality traits in that he is conciliant and forgiving at will, not even pressing his rare clients for bonuses or even his often deserved and much needed salary when they cannot afford it. His dislikings are not unfounded nor systematic as he is capable ofexplaining them and ready to make exceptions for weather poniesor scientists, if he believes they deserve it. Finally, although he may seem backward, he is far from superstitious and can bevery open to exterior opinions if treated decently in the process ( not treated like the ignorant zouave he can appear to be at first glance ).
History/Background: Raised in Manehattan, Baldoire never knew his mother - which doesn't affect him on any level - and was raised by his father alone, a blacksmith. Soon getting a fondness for antiques and a heavy disliking for the city's people, buildings and air, he left it after discovering the wages of the flat his father had bought him. Still on good terms with his dad despite the fact that his departure wasn't the complete opposite of abandomnent, he first went to Canterlot, where he failed enlistment into the royal guard due to being honest about his preferred way of fighting and being defeated in a skirmish by a colt with a stick in the process, then settled down in the traditional Ponyville. With a wealth of experience in History and a substantial luggage ofunique items, he immediately melted into a crowd used to oddities. Realising that He-Manes were a minority, he chose the job of "escort" to set down on his ID. Although inefficient in a real fight, petty offences are avoided by how imposing he looks in a suit of armor ( at the end of the day, most ponies hiring him just do so for extra, extra caution ). At the current state of things, he is more known for his cognizance of old things and bothering royal guards about their equipment than his occupation.
