Motivation: Slide Fortissimo is a very mentally motivated pony. He can memorize an entire piece of music and is eager to try and compose new jazz tunes for his jazz ensemble. Slide constantly pushes himself to play the trombone everyday, from buzzing the mouthpiece of the trombone before breakfast to performing a piece with the RCO in the evening. Each day, Slide Fortissimo promises to himself to never fail and always succeed, but if he does fail, for example missing a note, Slide studies the piece while practicing his trombone, remembering not to miss the note again.
Strengths: As a professional trombonist, Slide Fortissimo can play any song or piece on the trombone. Since he is 1st Trombone of the RCO, he has to play a higher range of notes than the other trombonists in the orchestra, which is a very big responsibility. Memorizing an entire music score is a huge strength because he has to not only hear the jazz music but be able to feel the music as well.
Weaknesses/Flaws:After playing a long piece, Slide can get tired very easily and requires plenty of rest. Since he is a pegasus, his flying speed is slow, but fast enough to be able to travel to other places in Equestria. He can carry his trombone, but anything that weighs over 200 pounds he can't lift with his foreleg or wings. He can't run very fast and sometimes will have difficulty making friends or starting a conversation.
Fears: He is afraid of being run over or hit by a moving object, which would cause him to be injured and end up in the hospital. Slide is very afraid of strange monsters and creatures that he does not recognize. His biggest fear is thinking what his life would have been like if he got a different cutie mark. Also, being afraid of those who yell or who are angry at him.
Overall Persona: Slide Fortissimo is a very kind pony. He is always eager to help, but needs instruction before he does a task. That is because he has a disability. It's called high functioning autism. Even though he is normal and can handle simple tasks, he sometimes needs more help from other ponies depending on the situation. Slide can also be very generous. In fact, since he gets paid after every concert, he donates to a charity and if he is at a café and somepony's paycheck came up short, he will help pay the rest of the bill. He normally is not so generous, but instead performed one great act of generosity once. One day he was ready to buy a new tuxedo when suddenly outside of a store, he saw a filly crying at the store next door. The filly was at a music store. Slide noticed that the filly didn't have enough bits to buy the musical instrument in the display window. The musical instrument was a trombone! Slide was surprised. He said, "Hey there, do you like listening to the trombone?" The filly nodded her head. "Well then," Slide replied, "How about if I buy that instrument for you and give you free lessons?" The filly had stopped crying. She had a smile on her face and was happy! "Yes! Yes! Yes!" the filly shouted jumping around in a circle. "Whoa, settle down there," Slide chuckled, "I'll be right back." A couple of minutes later, Slide went over to the filly and placed the trombone case on the ground in front of her. He opened the case and inside was a tenor trombone, perfectly cleaned and ready to play. "Wow! Thank you! You are the best trombonist in Ponyville! In fact, the best in Equestria as well!" the filly happily exclaimed. "Your welcome," Slide replied. After the filly closed up the case, she said goodbye and once she was out of sight, Slide thought to himself that he had just done the greatest act of generosity in his lifetime.
History/Background: Slide Fortissimo got his cutie mark when his family went to see a concert by the RCO in Ponyville. The conductor announced that the 1st trombonist had broken his leg on the way to the concert. With determination and bravery, Slide volunteered to be the 1st trombonist. The piece began. Slide played the borrowed trombone like he never played it before. He had been studying the instrument and music for years and this was his big break. Unknown to Slide, the piece had a trombone solo in it. When Slide noticed it in the music, he was ready. The solo was tremendous, echoing around the theater. It lasted for five minutes. The piece was soon concluded and the audience gave a standing ovation. Green Screen was cheering and his parents were crying happily. Then suddenly Slide noticed a flash on his rump. He had gotten his cutie mark! It was a momentous occasion. As for the injured pony who played the trombone, he retired after the orchestra finished that year's tour. When the concert master asked Slide if he would like to be the new 1st trombonist for the next tour, Slide happily agreed. And from that day forth, Slide Fortissimo has been the most professional trombonist in Equestria. When Slide moved to Ponyville from Cloudsdale, his goal was to form a jazz ensemble. He put up posters, handed out flyers, and even flew in the air with an advertisement. Eighteen ponies agreed, which was enough to have the first rehearsal of the Ponyville Jazz Ensemble. The group meets every Monday at 9:00pm in the Ponyville Theater. Not only that, he has to attend rehearsals of the Royal Canterlot Orchesta every Wednesday in Canterlot at 9:00pm. Slide always helps the community by doing charity concerts with his jazz ensemble. He gets paid each RCO concert and every PJE concert. He gets paid enough money in order to pay the musicians who perform in the PJE. Being the most professional trombonist in Equestria, he has gotten plenty of fans.
