-General Stuff-
Name: Yellowjacket
Nickname/Alias(es): Yellow
Race: Unicorn
Gender: Male

Additional Status: Yellowjacket tends to name the queens of his hives. He keeps a notebook in his records drawer with a record of all the queens and their hives for both sentimental and informational reasons.
-Physical Stuff-
Pelt Color: Yellow
Mane/Tail Color and Style: Yellowjacket usually wears his mane loose and messy. Not that he doesn’t clean it, but he lets it fall where it may and settle around his shoulders and horn on it’s own. His tail is kept similarly, though it has more volume to it than his mane and a light blue streak in it that matches his eyes. Other than that streak, his mane and tail are both a chocolate brown.
Eye Color: Ice blue
Cutie Mark: A bumble bee
Other Scars/Markings: Yellowjacket has brown stockings on his hooves that match the chocolate color of his mane and tail.

-Personality Stuff-
Likes: Almost needless to say, Yellowjacket has always loved insects. Specifically he had a soft spot for bees and wasps, and when he found out that bees could make honey he was enthralled by the six-legged, winged creatures. When he doesn’t have his face on the ground looking for new insects or in beehives, he can usually be found taking a powernap. Yellowjacket prefers to nap rather than sleep, and can often be found taking naps during the least temperate times of the day or when he’s finished his chores. He likes the variety of dreams that can be had with shorter rest periods. His favorite food is nachos; he enjoys the saltiness and the crunch of them. And he really does like his family, even if he doesn’t see them often.
Dislikes: The age old struggle, Yellowjacket isn’t a fan of bears. Truth be told he isn’t a fan of most creatures who would eat his bees or destroy his apiary, but bears in particular hold a special place for him as his least favorite animal. Not that he’s necessarily afraid of them (well no more than anypony would be afraid of a bear), he simply doesn’t like them. Strangely enough for a unicorn, Yellowjacket’s magic isn’t all that strong. He can perform simple magic (ie, lifting small objects) but compared to other unicorns he’s always been a bit of a dud, and especially compared to his sister. While he cares about her, he doesn’t exactly enjoy hearing comparisons between them or people pointing out his lack of magic. Lifting small objects is pretty much the extent of his magical ability, while other unicorns can hold many items at once or perform much more complex spells, Yellowjacket’s power caps out at moving simple objects. Also interesting is that as far as traditional sweets go, he’s not a big fan. His palette has always been more savory than sweet, and the fact that he sells honey is more a means to support himself than because he loves the product. Really, he dislikes extremely sweet things like lollipops and cotton candy because it’s just too much of a good thing. A little sugar here and there, he has no problem with, but he might politely decline your cupcake.
Motivation: To him, the fact that bees can work so hard for honey and no reward is fascinating. It was their work ethic and honestly the hive dynamics that singled out bees to him as his favorite insect and that’s why he followed the road to beekeeping. Really though, he’ll take any opportunity to investigate insects of all kinds. The idea that they’re so very different from ponies holds his interest, and the fact that they scare some ponies confuses and intrigues him.
Strengths: Yellowjacket is a pretty easygoing pony. While his location does mean that he spends most of his time alone, he’s always got an open door to those passing by. Like his bees, he values hard work, even though he takes naps, and tries to apply it to taking care of his bees.
Weaknesses/Flaws: It could be said that he sometimes obsesses over his bees or insects to a point where it gets in the way of him taking care of himself, and there’s something to be said for spending so much time alone without anypony to talk to. As was mentioned before, however, his biggest weakness is probably his lackluster magic, and he can get testy when it’s brought up, to the point where he’ll purposefully sequester himself away in privacy and not talk to anypony for a time.
Fears: Storms. Aside from the fear of losing a loved one of course, Yellowjacket’s big fear is storms, the fiercer the worse they are. Something about thunder and lightning sends his body into panic mode and it’s very rare for him to venture out of his home when there’s a storm afoot.
Overall Persona: If someone were to pass by Yellowjacket’s home, they’d undoubtedly see the unicorn hard at work surrounded by buzzing bees. Also likely would be that yellow unicorn turning and smiling at the visitor, because he is glad to have visitors and especially new visitors. Yellowjacket doesn’t see too many ponies around his neck of the woods, and is always glad to take some time to offer hospitality. It’s also very possible to come across him laying in a hammock taking a nap instead of tending his bees if one happens to pass during the hottest or coldest times of day. Though if someone wakes him up then he’s more willing to talk than be angry about being woken. All in all, a friendly sort who might come off a bit strong when talking about his apiary and his research about insects. Of all ponies though, he’s most wary of talking to other unicorns because of their tendency to discuss magic, and will often try to steer the conversation away from magic if he can. The only time he’s less than open with somepony would be if they made a comment about his lack of magical ability, as he would then become less than willing to invite that pony into his home or share his hospitality with them. The midst of a bad storm would also prevent him from greeting visitors, seeing as he spends most if not all of storm time hiding in his basement. That’s not to say he’s scared of water or gentle rain. It’s when the trees start bending and the sky crackles with lighting that he takes to his hooves. Needless to say, when he sees pegasus ponies mobilizing for a storm, he battens down the hatches. During these times he has a bit of a cowardly streak, as his fear is pretty paralyzing. Afterwards Yellowjacket is likely to apologize for any frantic or panicked actions, and he’s ashamed by how he acts during a storm, but despite his best attempts to face it he’s never had the strength to conquer his fear. At least, not alone.
While he’s not particularly crafty, he’s a hard worker who takes inspiration from the diligence of the very bees he helps cultivate and takes pride in seeing them do well. Perhaps he got it from his father’s Earth pony side, but whether or not that’s the case he puts more emphasis on the trying and the doing than he always does on the end result. So while his honey business being successful is good because it lets him continue to care for the bees of his passion and to feed himself, Yellowjacket isn’t concerned with counting the bits so much as he’s enamored by watching the little worker insects. Long story short, so long as there’s good weather and the healthy buzz of bees, Yellowjacket is a friendly stallion more than willing to offer strangers hospitality. But catch him in the midst of a storm and his nervous, terrified manner comes to the surface. Perhaps one day with aid from his friends he’ll be able to stand a storm, but at the moment it’s paralyzing enough that it has an effect on his entire life, and made him very grateful to not be a pegasus in charge of the weather.
History/Background: Yellowjacket was born in Manehattan along with his sister Willowleaf. Their mother being from Canterlot and their father a Manehattan native, their parents decided they wanted to try raising their family in a more rural setting and moved to the quieter Ponyville before either child had their cutiemark. It was in Ponyville that their mother started giving them magical lessons, and consequently where the family discovered that Willowleaf was rather adept at the arcane while Yellowjacket struggled with the most basic of tasks. Frustrated one day, Yellowjacket wandered to the edge of town near the Whitetail Wood and entered the fringes. It was there, sulking against a tree, that he noticed a line of ants crawling by. Fascinated by the insects in a line he followed them deeper into the Wood. Not too far later he heard a buzzing noise that would become all too familiar in the future and discovered his first beehive.
By the time it got dark Yellowjacket had spent the better part of the day watching the honeybees, fascinated by how they made something out of flowers of all things. Returning home got him an earful about not running off, but the next day he got books from the library all about bees and insects and went back to the Whitetail Wood and back to the beehive. This pattern continued for over a month, during which his cutie mark appeared and his parents became more supportive of his endeavors into the woods, before the storm hit. He was heading back home after a day of being with the bees when the wind picked up unexpectedly and thunder crashed through the skies. The fact that it was the beginnings of fall didn’t help matters as it felt like t he very world around him was crumbling down. Terrified, Yellowjacket hid in the hollow trunk of an old tree for the night and emerged the next morning shaking and filthy from rainwater and mud. Since that day, storms have terrified the pony. His trips outdoors were infrequent for a time, but when all was said and done he couldn’t keep away forever. Time went on and before long Yellowjacket moved away from his family to the outskirts of Whitetail Wood to start his own apiary by carefully helping to guide a swarm from the very hive he first found years ago to his first hive. From there he’s managed to make a small honey business that’s enough to support himself, but he also offers and is more than happy to give tours of the apiary to ponies who are curious.
