Poor Singularity was getting restless, Silversky could tell. Singularity, unlike Silversky, hated to walk anywhere. Silversky had seen her friend fly a distance of less than a foot rather than walk it. And without the use of one wing, Singularity seemed incredibly pitiful and sad. That was why they were there, actually. Silversky had hoped taking her friend for a trip might cheer her up. But no such luck. They stood in the middle of the dusty desert town, and while Silversky gazed at the new sights, Singularity stared at the sky as if wishing she was viewing everything from above.
Silversky looked around. She needed something to take her friend's mind off the sky. She noticed Singularity fluttering her broken wing feebly, and if trying to take off. This was one of her worst habits. She'd already rebroken her wing twice and it looked like she was fixing to do it again.
Silversky thought back to the accident and cringed with guilt at her part in the mess. It was her fault, really. Poor Singularity had been trying to teach Silversky to fly- a hopeless prospect, it seemed. Sure, she'd flown from a sandbar out in the ocean back to shore with the help of a nice pony named Honey Dust once, but it had been very difficult. Actually, she'd almost managed to fall out of the sky and go splat once- it was thanks to Honey Dust she hadn't. Teaching Silversky to fly without hurting herself or others seemed to be a hopeless proposition. Singularity had been teaching Silversky to fly when Silversky had fallen out the the air and landed on Singularity, knocking her over and crushing her wing. Silversky felt awful for her part in the proceedings and now she just had to take her friend's mind off her condition.
Her gaze landed on a rocky outcropping. Singularity wanted a bird's eye view, and she'd get one. "Hey, Singularity! Let's climb up there." Silversky didn't wait for an answer, just took off galloping. Thankfully Singularity followed and they reached the outcropping together.
But it was getting very windy. A fine mist of rain was falling and quickly it turned into something other than a fine mist. It was pouring down. Lightning boomed. "Silversky," Singularity called, "this might not be the greatest place to be in a thunderstorm!"
Silversky nodded and turned for the path, but almost got blown over. She looked at the rocky path and knew there was no way. "We can't get down! The wind's too strong! The best we can do is stay up here and hope we don't get struck by lightning! I'm sure the weather ponies will clear this up!"
Singularity looked her friend right in the eye. "Silversky. They don't have weather ponies here."
Sorry this took so long, Rusty! I honestly forgot about this.
