-Personality Stuff-
Likes:
While Spike is not the most lazy creature out there, he still loves to catch up on sleep, which is a hard thing to do when you are the number one assistant to the librarian-turned princess that loves to start her day early so that she can start trying to find a daily lesson to be written down. But aside from that, when he can, he likes to catch some sleep.
On the flip side, he absolutely loves to be useful to his friends, which is why he does his best to be the best assistant he could possibly be to his boss/best friend Twilight Sparkle. When not helping her, he is at times helping his other friends in whatever endeavors they need done, acting as a jack of all trades in whatever is required of him.
True to his draconic species, he also likes to collect things and well...himself. He is slightly narcissistic and absolutely loves to find gems of any sort, either to give to his friend and crush, Rarity, or simple to eat, which are like candy to the small dragon. He is also contrary to his dragon nature in that he likes at times to give away stuff when he thinks that others would appreciate it more.
On a simpler scale, Spike is also just a fun loving little ball of energy, finding humor in a lot of things, and just enjoying life. While sometimes laughing at others misfortune, he does not mean to do it in a mean hearted way. He loves parties and will enjoy them, even if they are not enjoyed by others as much. He also loves ice cream and other sweets, eating until he is stuffed and later suffering from stomach aches to pay for his crimes against sweets everywhere, but this does little to discourage his hype for the sugary kind.
Dislikes:
Spike does not like to feel as though he is a burden. Whether being simply in the way, or just not wanted, he becomes depressed if he believes himself to be disliked by the others. Even just the thought, with no proof is enough to hurt him.
Spike also hates when Twilight tries to be too bossy with him, feeling a bit discontent when she makes him get up too early or to stop eating so many sweets, even though he does so anyhow. He dislikes anything that might have to do with danger, although this changes if any of his friends are in danger or if he is dared by someone he wants to be friends with, even though he will put his foot down and say no the moment he feels its going too far.
He also dislikes bullies as well as boasters, and will try to do what he can to stop them, even standing up for those being bullied.
Motivation:
Spike is not the most complicated dragon, so his motivations are non too complex, falling into two main categories.
Spike wants to just go through life and enjoy it. Finding new things to do and try, and just looking around, even down to just trying new foods. These are all things that help Spike get up, just in case he misses a chance at a new experience. He also feels that he needs to always be there to help his friends and will stand by them to the end, no matter what. He will always help, even if he has to be a stepping stool, as long as he is being helpful.
Strengths:
Dedication- If you need something done, and you tell Spike to do it, politely that is, you can bet that its going to be done. He has helped Twilight with all manner of things over the years, including finding what books are needed, putting said books back, and cleaning the library. Top to bottom, everyday that something happens there, which, if you live with a princess of magic, things happen a lot, so its safe to say that he has to a once over at least once a day.
Smart- When you live with a pony that only strives to learn, and will wake up at any time of the night to pursue a thought that pops up, needs you to get the book, and talks to herself, you tend to learn a lot of second hand knowledge. Its also necessary at times to act as an interpreter for her when she begins to speak with a bit too much lingo for others to understand.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
Greedy-Sometimes his draconic nature shows through, especially when jewels are involved, causing him to covet them and slowly amass them to consume at a later time, although sometimes he will just spontaneously start collecting various items, before he snaps back out of it, leaving him embarrassed as he returns the items.
Lazy- While he still loves to be useful and helping others, he still tends to have his days where he simply doesn't want to do anything. He would just rather sit in bed all day and eat ice cream. And he will make sure you know this, complaining when you make him get up and always trying to return to a place to nap.
Fears:
Spike only has a few big true fears, as opposed to the smaller sudden fears so lets list them out real quick
Spiders
Zombies
Assorted Monsters
Bigger Dragons
His friends getting hurt
Exploding
Exploding
Spikes biggest fear is that there will come a day that Twilight will no longer need or love him, and will send him away to be raised somewhere else, never to see any of his friends ever again. This is why he is always helping, trying to be useful.
Overall Persona:
A little dragon raised by ponies, Spike cares for all those that he calls friends.
The little dragon is just filled with love to give, even though he might find himself at times to be too Manly to admit it. He feels the most love for his best friend, Twilight Sparkle. She was the one to hatch him, and they proceeded to take care of each other for many years. Its only natural that he loves her, as one would love a sister, or as he sometimes imagines it, a mother. He also feels love for his friends, as well as the obvious crush that he partially believes to be subtle.
While on the topic, a fair bit of what Spike does is influenced by his infatuation with the unicorn Rarity. He is deeply in love with her, doing almost anything he can to impress her, taking on any job for her to help, helping her far more often than the others except for Twilight. His feelings for her go so deep that they have been known to snap him out of spells of greed. He tries to be stealthy with his affection, but is painfully obvious to the other ponies, even though he doesn't realize this.
An interesting part of his personality is that at times he is almost two sides of the coin, flipping back and forth between times. One such example is his narcissism that he feels most of time, only to switch to pity for himself, and slinking into almost depression. Another example is the fact that he loves to relax when he isn't busy working up a storm, for he loves to goof off after a job well done. This can lead to rather strange moments where he flips coin sides multiple times in a span of a conversation, going from sad, to happy, complaining about not having anything to do, and complaining about not having free time to do nothing.
One of his hidden past times that he sorta just developed was his love for reading, which takes up a lot his time when Twilight in busy studying for some research or another, and he would pick up a random book to read. It was by this method that he has a very handy collection of knowledge, allowing him to know how to cook many different dishes, and just bits of trivia to let him deal with a multitude of issues. At the same time though, he sometimes teases Twilight about always having her nose in a book, despite he himself doing it as well at times, so he tries to be a bit more discrete about it. Although he loves his comic books, and will read them from cover to cover in a second if allowed.
Spike sometimes acts as the equalizer for Twilight, acting to both provide motivation, as well as common sense. When she is feeling down and inadequate , he reminds her of just who she is and telling her that she could beat the problem in question, no problem. But at times he is also required to bring her back to the ground, pointing out flaws and errors in her plans, not to be mean, but rather to make sure she doesn't overexert herself and get hit by the backlash if the said experiment doesn't work.
A bit of his nature is still draconian however, no matter how much time he spends with and is influenced by ponies. This leads to him at times to believing that he can take on almost any trial without consideration, taking on any job if it leads to rewards, especially jewels or if it is to aid Rarity. He can grow to massive sizes once his greed gets the most of him, but always eventually remembers his friends and those that he cares about and is able to overcome his greed, returning to the small dragon that everyone loves. But that is only a very small fraction of the time, usually the greed will simply cause him to be self absorbed and not care for the others, with him just taking the rewards and not even attempting to do a good job at the mission that he has undertaken.
