So when proboards upgraded from v.4 to v.5 sometime last year, we got a whole bunch of new features and some of them were so helpful. 2 of these features helped with keeping track of progress and updates in threads but some people are unaware of them so I figure I'll do my usual thing of running you guys through them!
Ok so the first thing is a passive feature that always happens in any thread you post, and that is the participated feature. This works rather simply, whenever you post the forum keeps track of the thread you posted in and will make a little notification whenever someone makes a most in the thread.
If you scroll up to the top of the page and look in the top right hand corner, just below your name and the log out option, you should see a tab that says participated. If there are any new posts the tab should look like this..
Congrats! You've got posts! So what do we do about it? Well if you click that little tab, you'll then have this little window pop up..
BAM! Friendship really is magic huh? Here you have active links to all the threads you've posted in for around 10 days I think? I'm not entirely sure how far back it keeps track off but its not that far. Now sometimes this feature is not entirely what you want it to be, as if you have posted once in a thread that has many many people posting in it, you can end up seeing the new participated sign more times than you want to. So to avoid this, what you want to do is go onto that participated window and select the box that is to the side of the thread, like this!
Then you move your cursor up onto that 'Actions' drop down menu and you'll get a set of options. These options here will allow you to set how long you set it for the forum to NOT tell you about someone posting in the thread. Just a nifty little thing. A little note, you can only mark a thread as read when it is set to new, as you can't mark something you've already read, as read. If you want to stop a thread from notifying you about its replied pre-emptively, you can mark a thread as new after you've read it using the same method as you can mark a thread as read, you can then set it to notifying never again or however long you may want it to.
-- MOVING ON!! --
So the next feature is the incredible and beautiful ability to bookmark a thread. Now this is not like bookmarking a web page on your browser but more of an in forum account thing that gives you your own personal page of all your bookmarked threads. So you may be asking "Oh almighty CableZ, is this some kind of amazing secretive mod power?" Well nope, in fact I'm going to tell you exactly how to do it.
First thing you'll want to do is get up a thread you want to bookmark, I've chosen my thread with the brilliant Forgotten Existence as an example.
On the little action bar you get at the top of the page (above the first post when scrolled up) you will see that familiar 'Actions' drop down menu. Click that bad boy and you will get a list of actions that look like this!
Now, you won't have that wonderful moderate option But as you can see there is that little bookmark option, and that's what we're interested in! Click that bad boy and hey presto, you're now in possession of a beautifully bookmarked thread, but you may be wondering "What does this mean?" Well some of you may have seen and wondered about that little tab at the top of the page on the navigation bar titled, bookmarks. Well, whenever someone posts in a bookmarked thread of yours, you will see this!
Beautiful sight ain't it? If you keep only your rp's bookmarked that that number can only ever mean good things for you. However it doens't end there! Click that tab and you will be taken above and beyond to this page.
Hey presto, the specific thread all nice and labelled as with a tasty new posts (seeing this really reminds me that I need to post!!)
And that guys is pretty much all there is to it. Using these features, especially the bookmark will make your life a lot easier and keep you up to date and on the cusp of all your roleplays. Hope this was helpful and as always. Have fun out there.
