(So, I think this is where you put something where your characters meet, and I wanted to start pulling my characters together. If this isn't where I'm supposed to put something like this just tell me.)
BrightWing had finally decided to bring her art to Canterlot to show it off to other ponies. She came in by train and heard some ponies talking about a mysterious thief who called herself "The Shadow Thief", but Bright wasn't worried. The train pulled into the station, and Bright pulled her bag to the room she was staying in, and painted. She worked for a week, and when she was done what stood before her was a masterpiece. Bright submitted her artwork to a charity show going on in the city and her painting became word across the town. The painting faded one night quite soon after the show started, and Bright stayed overnight to touch it up.
SwiftShade had been scoring big lately. The Shadow Thief was known throughout Canterlot and Swift was living pretty well. She heard rumors of a great artist coming to Canterlot and took some time to prepare and learn. She learned this artist was a pegasus from Cloudsdale who had a knack for painting. Ponies said her name was BrightWing and that she was making a masterpiece for a charity show. "Bah, charity show? From what I hear her talents could be used so much better elsewhere. Well, we should at least check it out." Swift set off with her faithful companion, Bast, and studied where the show would be taking place. "No guards, multiple entrances, this will almost be far too easy." After a few nights Swift decided to make her move, slipping silently into the show in the dead of night, long after it was closed. Swift didn't even bother to quiet her footsteps, as she had investigated the area the past few nights and found that no pony stayed past the show's closing.
BrightWing heard footsteps approaching as she was finishing the touch-ups on the painting. "Hello?" She called out into the darkness, and the footsteps stopped. The show closed hours and hours ago, what could this pony be doing here? A voice spoke from the shadows, sounding as though it came from a scared young mare. "Are, are you BrightWing?" Bright smiled and nodded, before realizing this mystery mare might not be able to see her. "Yes, and who might you be?" The voice seemed to grow bolder and more confident. "I am the Shadow Thief, but you can just call me Shadow." Bright nodded, a sad look on her face, and sighed. "I assume you're here for the painting then?" "Indeed I am, and are you going to try to stop me?" Shadow's voice became slightly aggressive, but Bright just stepped away from the painting. "No, I won't stop you. Take it, I'm sure you need it more than I do." A black mare stepped hesitantly from the shadows, causing Bright to flinch unnoticeably, bad memories filling her head before she pulled her mind back to the current situation, her short gray mane trying to hide her face, as her stub of a tail hung down. Her red eyes darted around, trying to see threats that weren't there. She looked no older than 16 and had a red cat's paw as a cutie mark.
SwiftShade stared at the white mare before her, who's gaze softened as Swift stepped from the shadows. "You, you aren't even gonna try to stop me?" SwiftShade was bewildered, sure it was a trap. Nopony could just let go of something of theirs, it just wasn't in their nature. But BrightWing shook her head. "Of course I won't try to stop you." Swift stopped darting her eyes around the place and focused on the mare in front of her "But, why? You made it, it's yours so why are you so willing to part with it?" BrightWing took another step away from the painting, gesturing at it with her hoof. "Because you need it far more than I do. I paint because of the joy it brings others, but I wonder why you steal? I also never planned to keep it anyway. I was going to donate it somewhere, but now I see that it may help you find yourself." Swift was beyond stunned, she had never met a pony who was so willing to give to help others, and she spoke slowly. "You could get rich of paintings like this, but you care more about a stranger's, even more a thief's, happiness more than your own fortune." She looked at the painting and saw BrightWing nod out of the corner of her eye. She turned back to her with tears in her eyes. "How?"
BrightWing smiled, determined to help Shadow as much as she could. "Because if you make other ponies happy, that same happiness will return to you tenfold, and it can even make you new friends. But you won't be able to make any friends or anypony happy if you hide behind a mask. So tell me, what's your real name?" The mare shrunk back slightly before muttering something under her breath. Bright cocked her head and she spoke louder. "SwiftShade, but I prefer to go by Swift." Bright smiled once again and lifted the painting. "Well then, Swift, let's get this painting to your home. When you look at it, remember this, and remember that solitude is not the only way to live." As Bright started walking out the door, hoping Swift would follow, she felt a hoof on her back. Turning around she saw Swift with tears in her eyes. "Thank you, for all this, but will I ever see you again." Bright laughed, the sound echoing through the room. "Of course you will!" She wrote her Cloudsdale address on the back of the painting. "If you ever need me, send me a letter. I'll come as fast as I can. After all, friends always watch out for each other." Swift smiled at the word friends and walked in front of her. "Come on, I'll show you to my place."
SwiftShade said her farewells to BrightWing and hung the painting on her wall, gazing at the address written in the corner. Smiling she crawled into bed, letting Bast curl up next to her she muttered. "I finally have a friend."
