-Personality Stuff-
Likes: Positive outlooks, playful silliness, the sound of a flowing river, most types of music (though he'll listen to anything really), good home made food, 'decent' manners (c'mon, guys can be guys), and equal and fair treatment.
Dislikes: Negative (emo) outlooks, obnoxiously loud sounds, bullies, mushrooms (bleh), laziness, whiners, snobby attitudes, and broken serenity.
Motivation: He truly, at his core, just wants ponies to be happy. If he can provide a safe and peaceful environment for ponies then all the better. Or if he can provide an ear for somepony to vent frustrations, or just get something off their chest. He'd do it.
Strengths: His strength is one of his biggest strengths. Added along with his wide variety of defensive/protective skills makes him quite the protector. His biggest strength however, is his heart. He believes there is good in all things great and small. That nothing is inherently bad, just misunderstood.
Weaknesses/Flaws: He can have a bit of a temper if he's having one of his bad days (those don't happen very much anymore). He gets really quiet and will shut down if he ever feels depressed to a severe point. This mainly happens if something reminds him of his recently deceased Grandfather, Escutcheon. He'll hide away in his house until he gets over it though.
Fears: He always worries he'll let somepony down in some way. Or worse, that he won't be able to protect somepony when they really need it. Being labeled a monster again, and being truly alone, is his worst possible fear.
Personality: ShieldWall is normally a happy-go-lucky stallion with high hopes that can't be broken. Though he's quite serious when it comes to his job or when the time comes. He's a gentle giant with an even bigger heart for those in need. He's the kind of stallion that you could come to with any problem and he would help you in any way he could. Even if you had a secret that you just had to tell somepony, he'd never tell a soul. He's usually quiet when he comes to new places, or when he meets new ponies. He'll break out of his shell pretty quick though, and try to help the good times flow. He's always up for trying new things as long as it's not too 'out there' for him. Being silly for the sake of being silly is one thing, or even to make some ponies smile, looking foolish is another matter altogether. However as fun-loving as he is, he does know he can look rather intimidating to somepony who doesn't know him. So he does his best to always have a smile on his face, and a gentle tone in his voice.
Background: ShieldWall, a guardian with a gentle soul. He grew up in Canterlot as the son of one of the many prestigious Royal Guards. His father, an Earth pony known as StoneWall, also worked as a blacksmith when he wasn't on duty. Needless to say Shield grew up knowing his way around the forge. Shield loved his father, and wanted to be just like him.
Shield hit an early growth spurt and quickly grew larger than the other ponies in his class at school. There was one filly in particular that Shield noticed was picked on quite a bit, and he didn't like it. He didn't act on anything until one day they cornered her back against a wall and just continually picked on her. Shield had enough and pushed himself in between them and her. He opened up his wings and stared each of them down. A couple tense moments passed but the three eventually ran off. Shield felt a great feeling wash over him. As well as a tight hug from an appreciative filly. Is this what it was like to protect somepony? Shield smiled happily, and after a flash of light from his flank his destiny was decided.
Years passed quickly as Stone taught and trained his son everything he knew, which he learned quickly. It all felt second nature to him. Then the fateful day came when Stone presented Shield with an application for the Royal Guard Academy. He passed with flying colors and graduated in the top tier of his class. He now proudly works as a full fledged Royal Guard.
