-Personality Stuff-
Likes:Performing, Laughter, Smiles, Cheers, Illusion, Magic, Mystery, Wonder, Amazement.
Dislikes:Drama, Stages, Scripts, Theatre, Sadness, Crying, Going home
Motivation:Quip loves the sound of wonder in a pony's voice when he performs. That gasp of amazement and joy in young and old ponies alike. He lives to make ponies laugh, wonder and dream of being more than they think they can be. He performs and makes his way in the world to be more than he thought he could be and show others how they can do that too, all the while giving them an incredible show at the same time.
Strengths: Quip is an incredible acrobat, You will not find an earth pony more agile and quick on his hooves on the ground. He is also a master of deception, a bird in the hoof is worth two in the bush is a common phrase. Well Quip will have 10 in the bush all to his own ends. Over all Quip is just very talented at performing, he has even mastered a form of non magic based tricks, something that has always dazzled the young ponies.
Weaknesses/Flaws:Quip is not a serious pony, he will take very little seriously and make light of any situation. No matter what. this can be a problem as he will not be focusing so much on the situation so much as focusing on what he could make light of in the situation. Quip also is not strong when it comes to confrontation. He would rather confuse and bedazzle than play fair or confront someone head on.
Fears:Quip's greatest fear is a world where everything is serious, he cannot stand an overly serious world. He knows there are times that ponies need to be serious, but he needs to hold that off in himself for as long as he possibly can. Quip also has a fear of Postcard scenes, he finds them insanely creepy, as they feel staged and fake but look real, it just freaks Quip out.
Overall Persona:Quip will usually be summarized by ponies as...'something else.' He is a born performer who loves nothing more than making others laugh, gasp and just have a great time. He has been called manic at times due to he energetic and sometime frightful nature. He has little structure too his shows, instead be more like a jack in the box of tricks. His mask is an extension of this, knowing he could not smile all the time he had the mask made so that no matter what. He was always smiling. When Quip is not performing, he enjoys nothing more than taking with ponies and exploring his surroundings. He believes very firmly that variety is the spice of life and inspiration from all over Equestria will give his shows variety. He is a very happy and friendly pony to be around so long as you don't try and talk serious too much and enjoy a good time. It doesn't matter what your taste, Quip has it in his repertoire and will find it. Quip's fast paced nature and general lack of interest in the serious means he can easily miss details that are painfully obvious to others. The main thing he misses on a daily basis are the feelings that his assistant has for him. Mad Cap has had a crush on Quip ever since she met him and continues to try and tell him how she feels to no avail, he simply doesn't notice and merely passes her odd behaviour off as a act or a bit.
Time on the streets
Quip grew up on the streets of Manehatten, however his exile was self imposed, he lived on the streets and performed since the age of 4. It's where he developed his skills and lost his mind, here are some of the little misadventures, or tragedies that befell Quip on those mean streets.
*The mirror incident*
Quip used to live on the streets of Manehatten as a street urchin who nobody knew and nobody cared about. Quip used to sleep in a secluded alley near a local theatre, the alley was full of a lot of the broken props and junk from the theatre, which Quip used as makeshift furniture. He recalled one day, while he was sleeping, he heard a very loud noise, and awoke to find a massive mirror laying in the alley, the mirror was cracked all over but it held in place. It took Quip a few hours to move the huge mirror into place, he placed it horizontally across the alley, offering somewhat of a mirrored wall for him, considering it was taller than him even when it was on his side. He thought it would be a pretty nice thing to have, but he soon realized that was wrong.
At first it was kind of fun, Quip as a foal was not exactly Quip as he was now. In fact it was his foalhood that drove him to the manic nature that we know him for now. When he came back to his alley after a long day, it was fun seeing all the little reflections of himself. But soon it took a different light. Quip was never smiling when he looked at himself, the whole point of him being on the streets was so that he could smile (its a long story) but when he saw all of those versions of himself, none of them smiling, Quip...cracked.
He picked up the nearest heavy object, which happened to be a brick and hurled it at the mirror in a fit of frustration, he was in quite a bit of pain and a few tears dripped from his eyes. Holding his legs close to his chest, the young colt slowly looked up as he sniffled slightly, but he saw something amazing. In the mirror Quip could see a million tiny reflections of himself, but then there was one reflection. On a piece that wasn't as cracked, staring back at Quip...laughing. As his reflection laughed and laughed, the real Quip began lightly chuckling. He realized that it didn't matter how he felt on the inside, he wanted to make others laugh and feel good on the inside...and he would follow. Seeing all of those laughing faces filled him with joy!
Adventures
Quip is a pony that loves adventure, there's no way he can avoid it, and more often than not he might not even know he's on an adventure until he's on it...yeah that makes sense. Anyway, here are some of the adventures he has gotten up to over the years with different ponies.
*Ashti Sandburst*
Quip was once hired by a relic hunting group known as 'The Circle' to assist one of their members with his acrobatic ability. It wasn't something he usually did but he did do the occasional odd job. He was told to meet somepony in Manehatten. When he got there the address he was given lead him to the manor house of Ambassador Ashti Sandburst.
The two soon...well hit it off would be the wrong phrase, they got along in the least. Quip's exuberant nature conflict with Ashti's calm demeanour and the two found each other a bit odd. After staying the night at Ashti's manor, Quip and his host set out on their journey. After making their way to the train station, they were soon boarding the train to the land of the performers known as Prance. During this train journey, the two companions spoke more to each other about their task at hand and a bit of their talents and past. It might not have been the closest bonding session in the world, but it was the best the two could do. After Quip decided to pretend he was surfing the train, they finally arrived in the foreign land.
The two visited an antiques shop and while the owner knew Ashti, Quip was distracted most of the time, acting silly and flirting with the shop assistant. Ashti kept his business to himself and Quip didn't feel like pressing the subject. During their walk to the ruins of a castle that the two were investigating, Quip opened up more to his companion talking about his past and why he is...how he is. After some acrobatic moves to get into the ruins and a few more acrobatics to get access to the basement of the castle, the two were on the right track. It was in this basement that Quip's skilled were truly needed as he needed to clear a gap that no normal pony could jump, and then to make a way across for Ashti.
One broken pillar later and the two found themselves in the hold of the artefact they were sent to find, but sadly it was not as easy as they thought. Upon trying to take the object they found it to be sentient, and more than a bit angry. It showed the two of them Vision's of Ashti's funeral and other various visions, one of which caused Ashti to accidentally punch the REAL Quip. After a a struggle Ashti managed to retrieve the artefact but at the cost of almost killing himself. It was this series of events that lead them to bond and the two are still friends...they are still nothing alike however.
The history of Quip's cart.
Its hard to pin down just when the cart was made but its easily over 300 years old. The cart was made in Prance by special order of a Prench aristocrat, who loved the performing arts. He loved them so much it seems that he had the cart styled like a performance with incredible colours and things that held the eye with their beauty. The cart was made by a world famous crafting firm, known especially for their Enchanting departments who had some of the most powerful magic ever put to a craft. Using some experimental techniques and a lot of power they managed to successfully make the cart larger on the inside than the outside, giving the interior of the cart a manor like size. This would not be sustained by itself however. Because of the cart's aesthetic it seemed that to keep the cart's interior alive, the owner of the cart had to spread laughter and happiness to all the ponies they met. This was no worry of the Aristocrat however, as he was a loved sort and was always charitable and always generous.
So he travelled in his cart, which he nicknamed “Errance Joie' which translated out to Wandering Joy. Sadly, all things must come to an end at some point, at after just 20 years after getting the amazing creation, the aristocrat passed away. The cart was passed to his son who didn't care for such garish things, and he quickly sold it on thinking it nothing more than a simple cart as he didn't have the kind qualities that one needed to see the cart's true power. So the cart was lost and passed between a slew of owners who knew nothing of its true potential. Over the years, the paint faded and it became aged and the chances of it ever making someone smile again were fading with its paint.
One fateful day however, in a flea market just outside of Manehatten, one little ponies eyes were sparkling at the site of the thing. This of course, was a young Quip Crack, maskless, and homeless. He'd seen the cart at this market a few times, but never had enough money to even consider buying it. After a few months of busking and nearly starving himself, he finally had enough to get it. It took him almost 6 hours to pull the cart back to his little alley in the city, the wheels needed oil, the wood needed tending too. Quip didn't care though, he had a home and as small as it was he would finally have a roof over his head. Upon entering the cart however he almost fainted and he thought there was a hole in the building it was up against and he had just walked into someponies house. But no, it was real, it was huge, furnish, comfy...amazing.
