It was stormy out. The cotton white clouds were hanging low in the greying sky. Pegasi didn't make clouds like those, they were once fluffy but now they were 'old'. That's how clouds worked. The ones that didn't get bucked out of the sky. The ones that were missed, aged. Now they were more hard looking. Snow clouds but old ones.
It wasn't out of the ordinary for Icy, however. She was used to clouds like that. They always looked like that out here, away from the Empire. Away from civilization. She sighed and used magic to shut the drapes. Turning away from the window, she smiled slightly as she passed Sprite. He was fast asleep by the fire. The flickering flames made him orange and yellow, his shadow danced up the darkened walls. She had snuffed out her candles hours ago. Sometimes she liked working with just the dying embers of her fire.
She flicked her silvery mane over her shoulder. It got in her way but she refused to shorten it. She liked it long, even if it could be a hindrance. Her horn glowed a pale pink and she lit up the ice sculpture in the centre of the room. There was a wedding coming up. A village couple had requested a rose. Pony high. Then as high again. She had just to add the thorns and leaves, then it was complete. She began to hum to herself as she added the final touches, it was this that truly made her happy. That and.....she shook her head and squinted slightly. Without raising it, her tongue poked out as she concentrated. She crinkled her muzzle as she added the tiniest detail to the petals. Done.
She stepped back and looked up at her artwork. She grinned to herself. "Icy honey...you've done it again" she chuckled and yawned. This piece had taken over 48 hours. She could create a monumental construction in a split second but...when it came to her art pieces....she was very particular.
She was just going to put out the fire when there was a knock at her door. She started slightly and looked at the clock. 2.46am? Her art had been agreed to be delivered to the reception hall in the morning. There was no reason for anyone to be here for that. So who was it?
The door rattled again. More urgently this time. She glanced over at Sprite. Still asleep. Biting her lip, she edged towards her bedroom door. Intent on ignoring the knocking. But then it came again...more frantic. She moved towards the door and.opebed it with magic, a pale pink glow lighting up the hinges. At least she could stand further back...just in case.
"Hello? Hello? Is there anyone here???..."
A blue stallion stood in the doorway. She blinked at him, his mane whipped round his face. A scarf wrapped across his muzzle. Snow goggles rested upon his brow, she wondered why he hadn't lowered them..
"Y...Yes?"
The stallion stared at her for a moment. She quivered as his eyes seemed to bore into her soul... he stepped forward. She stepped back. His eyes..that were green, turned red instantaneously. He grinned broadly. "Good. I've been looking for you"
She jumped up. Her breath ragged and deep. The fire was so low it was almost out. Sprite was still asleep and her sculpture was still standing in the middle of the room. Glancing up at the clock she started. 4am?! She needed to get to bed! She was meant to be heading to the Empire in the morning and it took a long time to get there. Especially in the snow.
Quaking, she lit a candle in each room. No way was she sleeping in the dark tonight. She picked Sprite up very gently, he sighed in his sleep. She smiled despite herself. She had a long day tomorrow....
Her sled was ready. The sculpture sashes to it. Sprite sat upon her shoulder..."you kay?" He asked with concern. His broken equestrian word warmed her heart. She nodded but said nothing. He settled into her mane and said no more. If you didn't know he was there you would think he was a hair piece. She magicked a rope around her neck and began to move. The sleigh stuck at first but then moved suddenly, she floundered a few steps and laughed. She loved the snow. Despite how hindering it could be. On to the Empire. She had 4 hours until her delivery slot. She may even get in some shopping time...then she wouldn't have to leave home again for a while. She tossed her mane in high spirits. It would be good not to have to leave the comfort of her home for a while.
