Beaker leaned closer to the table as his Telekinesis magic carefully levitated a strange scientific instrument over his latest creation, sweat beaded across his forehead as the machine made slow clicking noises when it passed over the invention.
“Well so far so good…” beaker muttered, putting down the machine and taking a glance at the complex blueprint that was tacked to the wall in front of him.
“I just need a few more spark crystals to power this thing, then where in business!” beaker reached his magic into a large tub at his side and pulled out a few small purple crystals.
“Yes, this should be enough.” He said as he levitated the crystals into a small cavity in the device he was working on. He again picked up the strange clicking instrument and waved it over the device, the clicking was faster this time. Satisfied beaker gave a small nod of approval and put a smooth metal cover over the crystal chamber and secured it with some screws.
“Luke! It’s finished, come down so we can test it!” beaker shouted up the staircase to his basement lab.
“I’ll be there in a sec, professor!” a young colts voice responded as the reinforced door to the lab opened with a small squeak and a small blue colt excitedly ran down the stairs. Luke glanced at the workbench where the device sat, it had a sleek metal body with a stylish white-enamel finish and it was just big enough to comfortably be held in a hoof.
“What exactly is it professor?” Luke asked cautiously as he reached over to touch it.
“It’s a device that actually completes a very simple task, though i’m sure I could easily adapt it to do much more complex things in the very near future.” Beaker explained to Luke. “At the moment it works as a remote control to the lights in this room.” He finished.
“That’s… well, that’s actually a bit anticlimactic.” Luke replied un-enthusiastically.
“Well don’t knock it until you try it. Go ahead Luke, Push the button” beaker prompted. Luke levitated the device in his telekinetic grasp, giving it another look over then pushed the button. Nothing happened for a short while but then the room went pitch black. And that’s when the doorbell rang.
“Of all the worst times." beaker muttered Luke can you switch the light back on?” He asked, almost pleadingly.
“Ugh, it doesn’t seem to be working!” Luke exclaimed as beaker gave a deep sigh and stumbled up the stairs to answer the door…
