-General Stuff-
Name: Midnight Hour
Nickname/Alias(es): Mid
Race: Pegasus
Gender: Male
Age: Young Stallion (Finally of age to try to join the Lunar Guard)
Additional Status: The son of a fairly well known politician
-Physical Stuff-
Pelt Color: Midnight’s pelt is a dark grayish-blue, which has caused him to have more than a few close calls with traffic at night. As such, he prefers flying to walking, as there’s less of a chance for collisions up in the sky.
Mane/Tail Color and Style: His mane is of fairly average length, but he likes to keep his tail a bit on the long side for a colt. The hair is a two-toned dark magenta and deep purple, and when not wildly unruly from a recent flight, he tends to keep his mane and tail straightened.
Eye Color: Mid’s eyes are a pale hazel; more gray than green.
Cutie Mark: A dark crescent moon and stars. From a young age, it was apparent that Mid was a night owl, and his cutie-mark reflected his love for the nighttime.
Other Scars/Markings: Nothing easily noticeable, but he does have a few minor scars from childhood collisions. His pelt has grown in full enough to hide these scars completely; unless one were to closely examine his skin, they’d never know any scars were there at all.
Physique: Mid has a very average build, all around. Not short, but not tall, not skinny, but not rotund… Mid is the kind of Stallion that is physically forgettable. Where he does shine, however, is his stamina. He may not be the fastest flier, or the strongest lifter, but he can fly continuously for extended periods of time without tiring. While in school, while the others left him in the dust in sprints, he would consistently do quite well in marathon type games.
-Social Stuff-
Current Residence: Midnight Hour was born and raised in Cloudsdale, until his mother became a delegate, and the family moved to Canterlot so she could be closer to work. They live in a fairly nice house near the political district of the Capitol.
Job: Mid is unemployed, as his mother makes more than enough to support the family of three. He does, however, dream of one day joining the ranks of the Lunar Guard, despite not being a Bat-Pony.
Mother: Hillary Cliff, Pegasus. Minty green pelt, mid-length business like blonde mane and tail. Delegate of Clousdale living in Canterlot. Harsh, but has a good head on her shoulders.
Father: William Powers, Pegasus. Tan pelt, short gray mane and tail. A Bit of a ladies-stallion, and a talented performer, in the end he’s always true to his family.
Sibling(s): None.
Other Family: None worth mentioning.
Closest Friends: As both a politician’s son, and a night-owl, Mid doesn’t really have many close friends. He’s friendly enough, but rarely finds someone whom he can really trust to call a true friend. He tends to hang out with a lot of Bat-Ponies, and spends the majority of his free time flying around Equestria and seeing the sights.
Courting/Courted By: N/A (Hard to find a mate when he doesn’t even have close friends)
Mate: N/A
Foal(s): N/A (Regardless of mate situation, Mid is convinced he’d be a terrible father)
-Personality Stuff-
Likes: On the surface, Mid openly admits to liking Rock Music and Dubstep, but secretly, he adores Disco. Unsurprisingly, he loves the nightlife, spending a lot of his time at raves and late night concerts. He enjoys flying, and can’t help but have his breath taken away by the beauty of Equestria from above. He once tried taking up Photography as a hobby, but found himself not liking the look of pictures as much as actually experiencing it himself. A photograph couldn’t capture the sounds, the wind, or the smells that all came with being in the moment.
Dislikes: Morning ponies; he cannot comprehend how anyone could be that chipper that early in the day. Caffeine laden beverages; If you need coffee or tea to stay awake, your body is telling you that it needs better sleep. Don’t ignore the warnings your body is trying to give you. Silence; Silence allows him to think too much, and parts of his own mind scare him. Thunderstorms; Rain is fine, but storms mean that he needs to get out of the air.
Motivation: Overall, Mid leads a vary cushy life. More than anything, he wants to become a Lunar Guard. A few chance encounters with Lunar Guards over the years has left him with deep wells of respect for the unit as a whole, and the chance to combine his love of evenings coupled with the ability to actually help others would be a dream come true. Fear of crushing failure, however, holds him back. He knows that the Lunar Guard is comprised entirely of Bat Ponies, and as such his chances of joining are as non-existent as an Earth Pony wishing to move to Cloudsdale. He spends his days convincing himself that he’s satisfied with his life as it is, and rarely allows himself the chance to be alone, unless it's to fill his senses with the beauty of night life around him.
Strengths: His high stamina allows him to stay airborn almost indefinately, and he has the thickest skin you can probably imagine. It takes a great deal to get on Mid’s nerves, and he can laugh off just about anything. However…
Weaknesses/Flaws: That same strength is also his biggest flaw. His easygoing attitude usually comes across as apathy or a lack of passion, and few take his goals seriously because it appears that failure doesn’t bother him. He's always willing to help others, but only if the situation can be dealt with in a relatively quick manner.
Fears: The truth is that Midnight Hour is so afraid of failure, he would rather not try and reach for his dreams at all, than risk losing something that he loves. His Father always told him to “Shoot for the moon, because even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars”, but to Mid, the problem was that the stars weren’t good enough. If he was going to shoot for the moon, he wanted the moon, and nothing short of that would be good enough. This same logic explains why he has no close friends; He is terrified that he would screw up and lose a friend, so he’d rather not get too close in the first place.
Overall Persona: Anyone who meets Mid for the first time would see a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, who enjoys meeting new faces and trying new things. A pony that enjoys singing and dancing, movies and musicals, and all manner of fun and games. He seems to be a caring individual who wouldn’t hesitate to put someone else’s wants or needs before his own. If you ever need someone to talk to, or someone to help with a problem, he’s always there to lend an ear or a hoof, and he has a knack for saying things that you already knew, but really just needed to hear out-loud. He does, however, tend to get nervous when you try and get to know him better. Anyone who does manage to get to know him any deeper knows that while the first impression isn’t a lie, it is a cover for his massive insecurities. He knows that his mentality is completely irrational, and that never trying guarantees that he’ll never get his desires, but he has convinced himself that the feeling that something could possibly still happen is far better than the knowledge that something is gone forever. To date, he has had one special somepony, and when they broke up he vowed never to allow himself to get that close again. His mother is convinced that Mid loves flying so much because the wind rushing in his ears acts as a white noise to keep himself from having to think in silence. Mid would never admit it, even to himself, but she’s about as close as one could get to the truth. Despite all of this, if you could get close to him, his insecurities make him fiercely loyal, as is noticeable in the way he clearly loves his family deeply.
History/Background:
- When Mid was six, he found himself caught flying in a thunderstorm. A passing Lunar Guard tried to help guide him safely back to Earth, but a stray lightning bolt managed to clip Mid's wings before they could properly land. Mid survived the ordeal, but had to stay grounded for two weeks due to his injuries. The first day that he could fly again, there was another storm. He had never wanted to fly so badly in his entire life. Despite his newfound dislike for thunderstorms, this encounter is what sparked his interest in the Lunar Guard.
- When he was nine, his mother was elected to a position of relative power, and his family moved to Canterlot. He lost contact with most of his school friends, and never managed to get too close to anyone else since.
- When he was thirteen, he was wandering out late one night and almost got hit by a speeding taxi. He was whisked to safety by a patrolling Lunar Guard, who tried reprimanding the foal for being out alone so late. Mid, however, was too excited at being saved by a Lunar Guard once again to take the reprimand to heart, and from that evening on proceded to spend more and more of his waking hours in the night.
- When he was fourteen, he witnessed a team of Bat Ponies training to become Guard members, and he knew in his heart that that was what he wanted to do with his life, despite also learning that year that the Lunar Guard always has been, and likely always will be comprised of nothing but Bat Ponies.
