The scene was as normal at the Stirrup Cup, many ponies coming in from a hard day of work to get a refreshing drink. What was abnormal was the amount of ponies that were gathered around one of the tables where one heck of a card game was taking place. Out of the four total ponies that were playing, three of them were well known around the cider house, so many were routing for them. Standing against all three was a stranger that many had never seen before, but felt like they should. Unlike most ponies that had bright colors in their pelts and manes, his was quite simple, with a dusty brown pelt and a brown mane that hung short. His hat, a wide brimmed hat with a lower peak than a Stetson, leaned down over his eyes, hiding both his eyes, which gleamed golden in the light, as well as the horn that marked him of the unicorn race. His cutie mark had a few ponies whispering to each other nervously, consisting of a trio of cards. One thing was for certain with the knowledge on him, he was a master of cards. He was winning hooves down against all three, who were the local big names for cards around Ponyville.
Lucky Draw took a look at the cards that had just been dealt him, and grinned, rolling his eyes exasperatedly.
"Well boys, if you have some good cards up your sleeves, I would suppose this would be the time for you to show 'em. Lady Luck is fickle, and apparently i have ticked 'er off in some way."
He flicked his hat up and eyed them cooly, his gaze calm and steady, scanning for tells on the other three. From what he could tell, an ear twitch, hoof scratch, and deep breath were the signs of confidence from these three. On the inside, he was rather disappointed. This was the best that his town had in the way of card players? He had found no challenge from this group, but he figured that maybe he was in the wrong place in this town. His attention immediately tracked onto one of his opponents that had just given his tell, the hoof scratch. Lucky internally raised an eyebrow, so far, he had destroyed their confidence, what with the hand after hand of cards that completely demolished the best they could get. So for this pony too possible think that he had a hand that would beat him, this would prove interesting.
"I'll raise you!" The pony said calmly, pushing a small pile of bits to the middle of the table.
"Ah' som' pony that has the guts to play a hand? About time. So lad, shall we test the waters of luck?"
Lucky pushed an identical pile of bits into the table, as the other two chose to fold and rely on their friend to win back some of their bits.
Lucky flipped the two cards he had, to reveal a ten and queen of hearts, at which the opposite pony whooped in excitement, and revealed a pair of tens. Lucky grinned, and turned to the dealer who was interested again in the game, considering it might be a change from the game thus far. He immediately set down the five cards, revealing a Jack, Ace, King, Seven and Ten. The opponent yelled in celebration and went to pick up the pile of bits, but was stopped when Lucky put up a hoof. Pointing to the cards, the opponent, the crowd, and the dealer all groaned as they realized something. The Jack, King and Ace were also hearts.
"You...got a...Royal Flush?!" The opponent said, crestfallen.
"Don't worry, this game was bound to end at some point, and this seems like a good moment to end it," Lucky said, scooping all of the bits into one of the saddlebags that sat on the floor next to him. Standing to take his leave, he tipped his hat to the table.
"Good game, gentle stallions, but you might want to work on those small tells. Have a good day."
He left the cider house, stretching out.
"Finally, so long cooped up in that game,"
He started strolling through the market place, looking for anything that caught his interest, as well as some new ponies that could possibly be interested in a game. Pulling one of the many decks of cards from his hat, he soon had them levitating through the air as he sat back against a bench. They were starting to become a tube that spun rapidly. He felt a somepony push past him, and looked down to see who was so distracted as to not see him or the cards that were beginning to make quite the spectacular display.
