Ponyville was rolling along much like it usually does each day, with multiple mares and stallions going about their usual business, whatsoever that may be. Some waited behind stalls, hoping to attract the attention of a passer-by and convince them to hand over some bits in return for various wares, others simply strolled around with no restrictions, observing everything and looking for anything that might interest them in doing, with a few small groups of colts and fillies running around and playing assorted games only played in ones childhood. And then there were the few who weren't outside, and were in their homes doing assorted various in-house activities or chores; cleaning, accountant work, cooking.
Streamlined Imagination was one of such indoors ponies, sitting in front of a workbench, using his magic to assemble various assorted gears and cogs, carefully watching from behind his blindfold of a set of sunglasses. What he was assembling looked like an odd curiosity, a strange set of goggles which had a pair of mechanical irises in front of each lens, which could be opened and closed by use of the various small mechanics hidden within the frame around said lenses. As he attempted to put a very important cog into it's spot, he found great difficulty in doing so due to the shade of the specific spot it was meant to go into. No matter what angle he turned the goggles on, the illusive shaft the cog was meant to slide onto remained within the shadows, rendering it impossible to put it in. "Clockworks, could you bring me a light please?" Streamlined said to his assistant. After a brief clattering of metal hooves against the stone floor, the internal mechanics of the goggles became illuminated under the light of a candle being held in the hoof of a pony unlike any other.
This was Clockworks, who was not only Streamlined's best and only assistant, but also his finest creation; an android mare, made almost entirely of brass and... well, clockworks. As she held the candle carefully, locking up the gears in that specific leg so as to not move it whatsoever, her artificial clear-glass eyes watching his movements through their enchanted emerald irises, which could adjust to changing light conditions without changing size.
"Thanks." muttered Streamlined, as he was finally able to locate the stealthy shaft, and place the final cog upon it. Upon completion he combined the half-case of the goggles with the other half, making what looked like an ordinary set of leather goggles, albeit with the notable mechanical irises visible. Clockworks nodded back to him, then put the candle down and then stepped away, lest the goggles do something undesired. Streamlined always asked her to step away whenever he was testing something, and this time would be no different; more so due to the nature of these goggles. "Right, test four of model five. Lets hope they work better than the last few..." Said Streamlined, taking off his sunglasses with his eyes closed, then putting on the goggles carefully and correctly, then opening his eyes. After a few moments he nodded, then attempted to adjust the irises of the goggles using his magic on the single control gear within the glasses, which had a pair of gems on opposite ends of it.
In the blur of events that then followed, Streamlined had ripped the goggles off his face whilst closing his eyelids, protecting his faulted eyes from the light which would cause severe pain should the two meet, then quickly raced forwards until he made contact with Clockworks, who had then quickly escorted the temporarily-blind Streamlined out the front door, as they were both blown off their feet from the bright flash of light that had emanated from the house.
Over in Ponyville, the faint but noticeable sound of an explosion echoed through the air, causing some windows to vibrate in time with it due to the force of the air. Away from the town, roughly half-way between there and the hydroelectric dam, a tall cloud of smoke rose up, marking the source of the explosion. The explosion was small and the blast was quiet, so anyone in the residential part of town most likely wouldn't have heard the sound emanating from what was formerly Streamlined's house.
Late into the day, when the sun was about an hour away from greeting the horizon and completing its daily journey, a pair of figures approached The Forge, Gearshift's workplace and building of residence. One was the now literally blindfolded form of Streamlined Imagination, who was unfortunate enough to have left his sunglasses in his house when the prototype goggles built to replace them had undergone it's unexpected reaction, and so he was given the choice of either keeping his eyes closed until a new pair could be acquired, or have a length of cloth wrapped around his eyes so as to ensure that no light met his eyes. Being unable to see on his own, he was being led by the unsurprisingly only slightly charred figured of Clockworks, who remained silent as usual since she had no choice; she lacked a voice, as Streamlined had yet to construct one and install it. When they arrived at the Forge, Streamlined reached out with a hoof, searching for where the door was since he was unable to see it. "Hopefully he still considers me a friend..." mumbled Streamlined to himself, as he knocked on the closest solid object he'd been able to find.
