Gearshift awoke, and walked down the stairs to the kitchen. it had been a long night, with many inventions malfunctioning and almost overloading. Thankfully he had shut them down in time. Also there was more good news. Mira had finally arrived, and he had settled her down in the other guest room. His other guest, Powderkeg, was finally up and moving around after her terrible crash, and he was thankful for that. He felt she didn't appreciate being taken care of and want to be selfsuffient again. He walked to the stove and proceeded to cook enough pancakes for the entire house, and ate some of them. He trotted to the storefront, and activated the sign with the flaming letters. The sign stated, "THE FORGE: REPAIRS, UPGRADES, AND INVENTIONS: OPEN" That being done he walked to his forge and started smelting and reforming metal pieces. He ook off his goggles, since this required his keen eyes to work it perfectly. He was so engrossed in the proect he never noticed Mira walking into the forge.
She brought out a lense and looked through it at her brother. She frowned at what she saw and sadly examined him again. The lense showed Gearshift, but he was covered in different patches. He still showed the features of the pony his friends had come to know, but certain areas showed different. In spots, he looked like a changeling. He had holes in his limbs, like a normal changeling would. The biggest patch was over his left eye however. His eye was a solid green, but contained such pain and sorrow, that it wept unceasingly. Mir@ wept silently for her brother.
